    I see what Juice meant when he said the freestyle battle scene was going to die out because of commercialization. The only way to win is if every line you say makes people laugh. In other words, its more of a comedian competition.

    I mean, the idea is to diss your opponent. It's about punchlines. Juice's style was outdated at this point, a lot of the stuff he was saying just wasn't hard hitting enough, despite being a consistently good freestyler. He honestly shouldn't have even made it this far into the tournament. I'll die on this hill, plenty of people think he should have beat YMP (likely because he's more well-known/popular) but I disagree.

    Also, just for the record, the 2003 Scribble crowd sucked. They kept booing people for stumbling or not finishing their rhymes as they wanted to, despite them being good. It's a freestyle competition, don't boo unless they actually deserve it. This may not seem relevant, but I also feel like this impacted a lot of the decisions at this tournament. Juice started to get boo'd during the battle with YMP. In earlier battles, that didn't happen because, as I said, he's a consistently good freestyler and never really stumbled.

    MC juice is one of the best, but I think from what you’re sayin started even earlier. Even in the later 90’s. if you can bring jokes followed by good punchlines, you were a head in a battle.

    I can't believe this was almost 13 years ago; I was only 16 and 8 Mile was still fresh in people's minds. This year in particular was high in expectations because the crowd was saturated by battle rap getting mainstream attention. 2005 was overall the best one though.

    The Juice vs YMP should never have gone into OT. Juice was far more consistent in flow, (rhymed on beat the entire time), and had decent-too-good lines the entire time. The overtime was closer, but I felt that YMP made himself sound dumb as hell after he completely flopped that rhyme "I get on the mic - yo you got -- clown". Yeah, Juice rhymed the same word together, but at least the punchline carried weight and we all understood what he meant. (most of us)

  • @ClusiveC

    AnthonyS BlackStarKeepShining Being as objective as possible, how can you say that Juice had weak/mediocre punchlines? Are you deaf? And then turn right around and accuse me of being on his nuts, when I gave YMP his credit where its due? Gtfoh. YMP took the overtime by a small margin I think, but Juice took the first matchup.

  • @ClusiveC

    @ClusiveC

    +AnthonyS BlackStarKeepShining "discrediting YMP's overtime by saying he sounded dumb " -- He did sound dumb. I can't even make out what he said. Of course he should at least get some type of discredit for that. "makes an excuse for Juice/tries to justify Juice rhyming the same word together" -- The fact of the matter is that the line Juice messed up on was an obvious one to fill in the gapes - I can leave a trail in this a nigga couldn't follow. Even if that doesn't hold water, that's far better than tripping up entirely like YMP did. Also, that's not justification - you're misunderstanding what justification means right here. "I'm not accusing you of being on his nuts, you ARE on his nuts" -- You're going to have to give more than an assertion to make this claim go through, because as it stands, I've given props to both MCs. On the other hand, all you've done is attack Juice and say that he was entirely mediocre/weak, which is just ridiculous. "Name one Juice line that you thought was a strong punchline. " -- You the type to play drums on Apollo, and ask them if the lucky log is really hollow.

  • @ant4613

    @ant4613

    I don't disagree with you about how it shouldn't have gone into OT, but it seems like you have a really old school mentality when it comes to freestyle battling (or at least you did at the time of this comment)... Which makes sense, given your support of Juice and considering Juice's style was pretty outdated at this point. The judging at this Scribble Jam was terrible. Realistically, Swann vs. Rhymefest shouldn't have gone into OT either, Swann clearly took it in the first battle. Then Rhymefest clearly took it in OT. Similar situation here, Juice arguably took it in the first battle, YMP took it in OT. There were plenty of instances of questionable judging at this Scribble, these were just a few. You also didn't really give YMP his props, you just said that he took OT by a slight margin, but then went on to say that he "sounded dumb" in OT lol... A bit contradictory. And the strong punchline example you gave is pretty laughable. lol. You really think that's a strong punchline in a freestyle battle? Most people don't even know what that means. Plus, it seemed pre-meditated/like a line that can be used on anybody. It's really just a weak, out-dated, corny line. Also, just ftr, I don't think it's bad that Juice rhymed the same word twice, nor do I necessarily think it's bad that YMP's stumbled a few times. It tends to happen in a freestyle battle lol. Obviously, every case is different, a bad stumble could really fuck you over. But YMP's really weren't that bad, he had enough strong punchlines to make up for them.

    @BasementKilling From what I saw he won the overtime as well. His rhyming and punchlines were so much more creative. On top of that YMP's idea of rebuttals is things like "no im not the wackest in a america" & "No im not nervous". It is very easy to come with something like that.

I remember Juice saying in an interview the first time he met Fest that they had a battle with each other and Juice won years before this. So they had battled before.

    Proverbs 13:1-13 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth, but the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence. He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich. A righteous man hates lying, But a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame. Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, But wickedness overthrows the sinner. There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches. The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke. The light of the righteous rejoices, But the lamp of the wicked will be put out. By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom. Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, But he who gathers by labor will increase. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.
