They certainly are. But they're still food animals. Of course they should be treated humanely and given a comfy and pleasant life as possible! Of course, that includes lots of physical affection. Since calves are quickly separated from the mothers, affection is important.
Would be way easier for everyone if each had their own. How do you track if they got all of the daily needed intake if they switch places with each other lol
