I lived in Cheetawaga when I was about 4-5 -- loved playing in the snow. It was a great place for kid.
WATCH AND LEARN as the people of WNY travel on ice and snow! We can all learn from their experience.

I used to live in Fredonia & Hamburg in the 70's...played at Orchard Park in the snow. I live in California now but miss the old days...once in a while

East Aurora for me through 7th grade. Now in SF Bay Area/San Mateo.
Your so lucky :) I wish i was that lucky and lived there. Im from Euro and i always dreamed of a life in US :/
I've seen about 40" in a a 3 day span here in Northern MN, but I can't imagine another 70" on top of that. I like how you guys in Buffalo were basically like "Meh, we'll survive." when those down on the coast are shitting themselves right now.

We know how to handle it, we prep for it without freaking out, and we take of our neighbors, the elderly, and kids (like if they're stuck on school buses). This is a tough town at times but it makes you strong.
one of my favorite videos
Cool video! You driving right around where I live!
I normally dont get worried about not making it where i need to be. but it was scary. the only reason we went out if we needed medicine for his daughter and picked up a few other things.
I love this videos , we can look back on the crazy storms we had
I live by the buffalo airport and got about 8-10 inches from that storm then 3 miles south at the airport 2 feet then south of genessee or Walden went to 5-8 feet that was a crazy storm 8 years ago
I'm right in that area and am praying to God that we get something like this again or at least it snow a lot after this awfully hot summer. Can't wait to plow!
I live in Pennsylvania. In the eastern part of the state, we hardly ever get snows that are a foot plus. We hardly ever get blizzards around here. In the northwestern part of the state (around Erie), they can get nasty snows 10 times worse then here.

Funny because this was 1 of the worst snowstorms in a metro area in recorded history!Erie is on the eastern side of lake Erie, same as Buffalo.Erie gets more snow annually,Buffalo gets fewer but more severe storms due to the fetch of the lake.
Awesome video!
Brilliant video ...thanks for uploading

WOW....glad y'all made it home safely ✝️💒🙏🏿
Without a snow blower, if you live on a side street, you are not getting out for a few days unless you clear away not only your driveway but also the main street itself.

Snow blower were not much help with this. you had to knock the snow down with a shovel first for the snowblower.
Hey! Suck it up! I live in Buffalo and I wouldn't even put down my Tim Horton's coffee for this drive! ;-)
When it snows there it's nice in God's country !! Let it snow let it snow !!!! I'll stay in the west, thankyou !!
A year later and that storm sucked! I'm near abbott rd and ridge rd.

SUBZ340 2k14 as long as its not that much snow, i only like snow on christmas
I've been in N/C Indiana 10 years, a 45 minute drive to the beaches of Lake Michigan and 8 miles south of the Michigan border [why is a long story, no time right now]. I'm all too familiar with 'lake effect snow' but OMFG this shit is insane!! Last winter here was brutal with sub-zero temps for weeks on end and more snow than usual, I had 4 feet of the shit at one point, but NOTHING like what parts of Buffalo was hit with last week. House for sale, 1100 sq ft, 3 br, lr, dr/kit, 1 bath, two car attached garage. 85000 period.

Shanne Liszewski I live east of Lake Michigan and know the effects of 'lake effect' but I'm not close enough to see the storm forming over the lake until I stumbled upon a YT the other day from Buffalo showing the storm over Lake Erie. Stay safe and stay warm!!
Great video! I live around here, I had no idea French was that well plowed, or I might have tried it.

Justin Graupp Its crazy in Buffalo the Coast Guard watches the Lake every day in winter to keep people safe. The worst was 1977 Blizzard, winds 80mph 19 feet of snow City & Schools closed for 3 weeks. The Country was calling us SNOW CAPITAL OF USA. Even now we average 10 feet from Lake Erie. Every body wonders why Buffalo gets most snow compared to other City's near 5 Great Lakes. Downtown Buffalo is less than a mile from the Lake. We do catch a break late winter because Lake Erie frezzes over. The snow we get is called Lake Effect. Canada is our neighbor only 10 minutes from the City & Niagara Falls is only 30 minute drive. Buffalo is #2 City for most snow. Believe it or not Buffalo is called Miami of the North because our summers have a lot of 90 degree days. Always WHITE XMAS IN BUFFALO
Youre brave for going out in a Ford Fusion....serious props....but you gotta do what you gotta go eh

@@BuffaloShanne dude i was in Rochester (Hilton) in 2001, and i remember that one like it was yesterday!!! We got another 3ft on New Years Eve. But it was amazing in the 50 miles difference between Buffalo and Rochester, the snow totals could be insanely different, sometimes we we would get hammered and you guys would get nothing, and other times it would be just the opposite, but that Christmas storm all of Western and Upstate New York got pounded. I think there were 2 days from Thanksgiving until Christmas in 02 that it didn't snow, it was insane, but i also lived a quarter mile from lake Ontario could see the lake at the end of my street (Church rd).

Living in NYS all my life, if you did everything the government told you, you probably need a nanny state to take care of every detail of your life. For instance: fireworks were illegal In this state for decades when I was growing up. But many people still bought and used them. Yes, when there is a "snow emergency" we still drive in it if we have to.

My apology but I question the decision of anyone living in WNY buying a 2wd car. I was at the worst of it driving straight thru the city going to work. 4wd little worry. It shocks me anyone would not by a capable vehicle living where we live.

+Joshua Jeremy +Buffalo Shanne (Shanne Liszewski) This was the storm that made me realize I needed such a vehicle....I drove directly into the storm at 330 am heading for Erie, PA....I got past the Galleria and it was whiteout by the William St Exit....I was in a Chevy Cruze, barely made it off the thruway.....had it been any later, I would have been stuck on the 90 for sure......I followed a Tractor Trailer off the 90, but after that we had a disagreement on where to go....he headed downtown which was the better move, and I headed towards depew, I didnt want to go that way, but I ended up being forced to because I couldn't turn north down any of the poorly plowed roads eventually got stuck on Broadway in Depew in the heart of the storm and a ton of us were stuck on the same street, many in cars w/o 4wd..In a Jeep or a Truck, I would have at least gotten out of there and gotten out of the storm and back to safety...I realized then, safety> fuel efficency........I now realize the importance of a capable 4wd vehicle in Buffalo I was literally just going to say.....why the fuck would anyone own anything other than a Jeep, Subaru SUV, 4x4 truck, or AWD capable SUV at the least? These 4 cyllinder economy cars do not get it done
@srtmetal7647

Modern small SUVs actually get over 30 mpg easily so today it's not really much of a compromise. New Jeep renegade, various subarus, etc as you said.

85% of AWD owners don't use winter tires. Real stat. Yet winter tires on FWD are better than that. Go read tire rack's article on the subject. Or consumer reports. Sometimes your gut is wrong.

BTW, I've driven for Uber in Vermont through 2 blizzards and practically every day it snows. Hyundai Elantra was a beast. Lincoln MKZ just had Pirelli Cintauros. Now a Lexus CT 200h with Vredestein Quatrac 5. And now I drive into unplowed driveways without slipping, much less getting stuck. Lowest to the ground of any car I've ever owned too.
