Fantastic review and explanation of a pt5000, what a cracking little watch.

I've been looking at this PT5000 movement for my next watch ....... clearly on a different level compared with the NH35a ..... I'm now convinced, especially as the general run rate has a screw for that regulation as opposed to the highly sensitive lever type .... thank you !!

Good to hear the positive comments on the movement. Unfortunately, I received a watch yesterday that contained this movement & was faulty from the off. The crown felt like it had some cross threading, when tightening down. It also stopped a couple of times in the first few hours before refusing to restart. The crown also at this point felt as though it was fully wound (which I understand shouldn’t be able to happen with an auto movement), so I refrained from forcing it any further. Needless to say, it is being returned.

Definitely something amiss but all watches at this price point are just factory assembled and shipped so there will always be a few iffy ones that slip through. If you watch the service video of the movement you'll note there was dirt present in line with what you'd expect from assembly in less than sterile conditions but for the cost and the actual movement quality I'm really impressed.

Champagne watch for lemonade money we have to give to them they are knocking out quality on many of these homage type watches, at least it gives us mere peasants a taste of the good life to suit our wallets.

Are they a drop in replacement for the ETA2824?

Ah damn!!! You slipped??? Lol. Those numbers after cleaning are quite impressive for what it is. I'd say it's well worth the money. These micro brands and the heavy hitter watch manufacturers had better start paying attention to the Chinese watch manufacturers. They are definitely catching up rather quickly.

The best chinese watch makers do rival the swiss but are not sold outside of China, Longio, Memorigin, FIYTA(make watches for Chinese Space Agency), Rossini, Tain Wang and Beijing Watch Factory and luxury brands like Peacock, CIGA, Memorigin.

Nice videos, in your opinion this is about 200€ less than the Smiths Everest. Is it as good ? Which one would you pick between the two ?

Thank you. I haven't personally handled a newer Smith's model but I would imagine them to be on a par with each other. The miyota that the smiths uses is an excellent movement and probably about the same price wise as the seagull 2824-2 clone. I came close twice to buying one of the smiths models but I just can't get past the thing of it being a historic English brand which is being sold in name and with Japanese movements and most likely Chinese manufactured cases. No snobbery there at all as I have several Chinese watches as well as Japanese and Swiss but I feel it's like so many things that's trading on the reputation of a name. That said I do think they're reasonably priced for what they are.

Nice job! I've got a Pagani pd1723 v2 with the pt5000 movement, and is very happy with it. The crown and winding could be experienced as a little gritty, but that is a eta2824-2 heritage. One thing I noticed was that the course setting tab is rather loose, resulting in a timing loss after dropping the watch. Easily adjusted. Be careful with the hand winding, the ratchet wheel of the eta2824-2 has a flaw. eating the koggs! I just wind up maybe 10 winds manually and let the self winding take the rest.
