The eloquence..still speaks like a rich kid. Thank you for sharing this story…now l know better..
Man! This is such a sobering conversation. Everyone knows an alcoholic. At this rate, I feel like we all have an alcoholic in the family. In our generation, we have lots of functional alcoholics even in our workplaces. It’s scary to know how the scales can tip with addition of some life pressure and a person becomes completely redundant and dependent on alcohol. The perspective of male homelessness is also heartbreaking…and absolutely true. How many times have I even said to myself: Why is a completely healthy man out on the streets begging when he could be doing something to earn a living. I have said this from my point of privilege without seeing just how homelessness completely diminishes a person and breaks them down to almost nothing. How if they cannot even get documents like IDs, they are pretty much screwed before they even start. Gitau, your story is so powerful. There is a reason you lived to tell the tale. Especially now that we can see how men live with traumas that they never share, as society keeps heaping expectations on them without a safe space to decompress because they were taught to “jikaza kimwanaume”. I am also praying for my own loved ones who are on the path of self destruction from alcohol addiction ♥️

Everything happens for a reason. If this man never went down this route we would not have had someone to humanize street people to us, someone like us, who wasn't an orphan or an abused runaway who fell through the cracks. He could be any of us and tomorrow when we see a street person we will remember this guy who really is just like any of us, we dehumanise street people so much. He has helped us have more compassion and understanding for them. Wherever they may be in their struggle with addiction they are still human beings just like the rest of us. Thanks for helping us understand and relate to addicts and street people , I have learnt a lot from you.
A story loaded with lessons,...how i wish that the people in my generation can learn that the only solution to issues is approaching them head on ,alcohol and drugs can only create more problems.

So sad. Its a wake-up call
Another great story. The other side of the penny that has not been spoken about, the owners of those lodgings and those cheap bars, who are themselves very rich, but suffer a whole host of other problems. Life style diseases, s.t.i, rebellious and lost offspring etc etc and the irony is that their offspring become the next generation of users and not owners of those establishments. And offspring of reformed users become the next generation of owners, a reversal of roles as it were. The irony, the irony, the irony. And the arrow of time continues to fly ever forwards and all that remains are the names of ancestors echoing down the generations.
Wow! This is like a suspense thriller..... quite the story teller and comedian..... "In 3 hours we had courted, married and consumated the marriage" "unalewa na chawa zinalewa".... Very inspirational story, childhood trauma, the invisible wounds! May God keep you strong mr Solomon, you have done well to discover who you are! Happy ending! It doesn’t matter where you start.
You’re an excellent narrator! I love your voice and could listen to you all day. Thank you for sharing this. As a mother I think having a good relationships with my children from the time they are young is very important. Loving our children unconditional is important
I can totally relate to the fact that teenagers get lost... My parents used to wonder why I changed so much from the 'good girl' they had yet they had given me everything I needed. But what they don't understand is that sometimes the influences and peer pressure may get to us, so that we can get validation from people at times or for the hype and we don't know any better. We don't know this until we become older and realize the mistakes we did. One thing that I've promised myself is to guide my child and support and guide him especially emotionally and mentally. Because sometimes it's not the child... It's that he's lost. Thank you for the inspiring story.

Insightful and Powerful revelations. We should never be judgemental but instead be more understanding & accommodative.God Help us.
The story from this gentleman is both Sad and Inspiring because I pinpoints the societal challenges. I am from Soweto, South Africa. This brother is intelligent and he shows that life's challenges knows no bound. I see a lot of kids in our area strung on drugs. What I often hear is parents being blamed for negligence but he just shot the myth down. Thank you for opening up so that we could learn through your hardship.

Too much wisdom oozes from this man, if one can see through the cracks
Very eloquent! Your part one left me on a cliffhanger, I’m glad i watched part two till the end, your narration is hilarious in some way.
Wah..Great narration. God really has a purpose for this man and everyone. He prepares one for the mission in stages
Sad story but very educative. May future represent us to the next stage. All biological fathers who have left children they have born will suffer will pay it dearly. Without this man no step forward. The fact remain he has played his role. We can't deal with that you do not understand.now I do understand better about desperate pple. They are everywhere. This man is God's instrument. Let's wait and see what is about to happen. Patience pay. Forward ever backward never.
So proud that you doing great now! Your story should be told from the mountain top!!
