Part 1. Gorilla tape waterproof patch and seal seals a pool under water!

Ғылым және технология

Me patching my pool after finding out the vinyl cracked just inside the bottom seem. Gorilla tape waterproof patch and seal seems to have done the job. If I had the right stitcher on me I'd have preferred to use a narrow metal stitcher like what is used on car tire repair. They can be bought at almost nay auto parts place. The key is to stitch all the water out from beneath the patch. I had a pool of water deep enough in my grass that birds were taking a bath in it LOL. ASK questions if you need anything.

ALWAYS CUT THE CORNERS ROUND ON ANY LINER PATCH .. This is also required for bike tubes or air toys for the pool. ROUND edges never square

I had 2 pinholes in my liner about 6 inches from the side of my pool, and I just used regular clear gorilla tape. I submerged the tape through about 4 ft of water before applying it. Surprisingly, it held up for 2 seasons. I could see that the adhesive must’ve been deteriorating (turning whitish) so I pulled up an edge. It was still sticking but didn’t take much to remove it. The area cleaned up nicely and I reapplied new clear Gorilla tape under about 4 ft of water. The real trick is finding pinhole leaks! 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Isn’t really a good way to go about that. Except swim around the bottom with a syringe with a thin plastic straw with dye in it. And very lightly let out dye at suspected areas. I have thousands of dollars in leak detection equipment. I can easily find leaks with the electronics. But to actually pin point exactly where the hole is. The dye is still needed. It’s not practical for everyone an anyone to buy the equipment. But dye is cheap. An just going around checking suspected spots you can find a few pretty easily like that. Some of the extra small ones are harder to find. But the homeowner can easily slow down leaks a lot. An it’s just get get vinyl liner patches and the underwater glue an just set a weight on it. The tape thing just isn’t it.

@@AquaTech225 Yeah, I went to the bottom...wife standing on my back so I wouldn't float back up, and I found 16 pinholes! I used the white waterproof Gorilla tape (messy and hard to work with) to patch the holes and after 2.5 weeks, they seem to be holding quite well. My 1" per day water loss has stopped. For the dye to work, you have to have the syringe tube like 1" from the hole...any further, it doesn't work. But anyway, I'm good for this summer pool season. BTW, thanks for the tip and replying! Appreciate it. All the best.

Well.... It eventually failed. It could not hold the seem together. The pressure fromm the water eventually pulled the seem wider and longer. It was right at the corner of the pool and the tear kept growing. I believe if it was on the bottom in the middle where the water wasn't pulling the liner tight, it may have worked.

That is what happened to my duct tape I drained, sprayed with alcohol and then the damn thing stretched! So I want to put this over the patches I already have now that it is full and stretched out and see if it will stay!!

I was surprised about the single application, I had always been under the impression it’s vital to do a patch on the outside too.. I wonder if that’s why it failed 🤔 we are currently trying to do some patches also 😤

does it REQUIRE water to seal like the other Gorilla Glue tape? Whoever wrote those instructions was not clear at all. It says "Works Under Water" but that does not necessarily mean it REQUIRES water for it to "work." Also says to apply to CLEAN SURFACE. Does not say apply to WET clean surface. So it IMPLIES that water is NOT required.

@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 water definatel NOT required. Best if there is no water. However I did find a vinyl repair kit at lowes that can be adhered under water. Just Google Lowes vinyl pool repair kit. It works great.

I have the same problem on the same position 😂😂 I step on the pool a litlle bit harder and boom xD I used flex tape and filled it like 35%.I'm waiting tomorrow to order one more tape to cover it, because I'm not sure if this will hold enough when it's on 100% and we will see what's gonna happen..😂🙏

I don't think any tapes sticks to this. I had an above ground pool too and tried flex tape. Nothing stick to the bottom of the pool material.

I see that it eventually failed, but how long did it last? We are getting a stock tank pool but it won’t be here for a month. Trying to see how long I can keep my inflatable pool functioning.

About a day but it was right on the corner where the wall meets the floor. Away from that stress point, it should last alot longer.

I just bought some and my pool is empty so I may try it. I have two tiny holes and nowhere near a seam so maybe I'm good? I've also got a typical patch and glue kit coming tomorrow but the tape is easy. Think the tape would be fine?

I think the tape will be fine if it's not near the seam. It could not withstand the constant pressure pulling sideways at the seam

Honestly, thinking back and knowing now how hard it is to get a pool during Covid season, I should have emptied it and dried it and patched it from both sides. But I was just afraid it would keep spreading so I gave up and tossed it.

I'm really disappointed also. It would be great as a dry patch. Why mislead everyone. That was a total waste of time and $$.
