    Hello. Thanks for the prior response. I forgot to ask. My 08 4Runner has 295,000 miles. I am replacing head gaskets on the 1GR-FE and will sending my heads to a machine shop to be checked. If they have to do a valve job does that require valve clearances to be checked when reassembling? Thanks.

    Hi great video series. What is the purpose for adding the white sealer on both sides of the head gasket? I see that mentioned in the service manual too. Also, do you need to replace the head bolts or can they be reused? Thanks!

  • @MayoCarsDR

    @MayoCarsDR

    Жыл бұрын

    This is where the engine oil is likely to leak, so silicone is applied here and the head bolts can be reused.

    Amazing video, I've used this and a couple other videos (mostly yours) to replace the head gaskets on my 2005 toyota tundra! One question: On the driver side, you torqued the bolts for the cams to 9.0NM. On the passenger, you say 0.9NM. Are they really that different, being the same bolts? Thank you!

    Hi there. I'm in the middle of replacing head gaskets on the 1GR with 295k miles. No codes or check engine light just loss of coolant from cylinders 4 and 6. I just brought the heads in to get checked at the machine shop. They said are .003 out and need to be resurfaced. They said this is typical of aluminum heads. They also said that 5 intake and 2 exhaust valves are leaking heavy. The machinist advised me to remove the valves and replace the seals. He said to use a wire brush and lap them. Once I finished, he said to bring them back and he will resurface them. He said a valve job would be expensive especially with the valve adjustment. Should I follow his advice or should I consider a valve job? Thanks!

    I guess the intake valve clearance you measured at 46:03 minutes is 0.10mm. I thought you said the minimum clearance for the intake should be 0.15mm.

  • @georgev.

    @georgev.

    2 жыл бұрын

    According to vehicle user manual the Valve clearance (engine cold) Intake 0.006 - 0.010 in. (0.15 - 0.25 mm) Exhaust 0.011 - 0.015 in. (0.29 - 0.39 mm) So in the intake could fit de 0.1mm but he tries the 0.15mm first and pass snugly.
