Part: 01 - Motherload Carpenter's Chest

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey Scroungers, This week I have the beginning of something special on my channel and it's so massive that it has to be covered in three parts.
A buddy of mine contacted me recently about this old chest full of tools that had been kicking around his garage for a while, and when I went to check it out I went through the contents and asked him what he was looking to get.
He gave me a price but it was a bit low, so I countered with all I had, which was still low but it made him really happy. Which made me happy... Everyone was happy!
Anyhow, this is Part 01, and there's quite a lot in there including one or two real surprises!
I Hope you like it I'm having fun digging through it, and I'll reveal the price at the end of part three!
Like, Comment and SUBSCRIBE and have fun Scrounging!

My great grandfather who was a carpenter and furniture maker had a similar tool chest. I inherited it with a lot of the tools still in it. I wonder if it was his apprentice project. He was active from around 1890 to 1940. He lived in southeast Michigan.

Super nice score. The plane iron in the roll will probably belong to a Stanley 45or 55.

Also the 1 1/4 plane irons will fit a Stanley no1. Holy grail

7:05 Moulson Brothers Cast Steel. That's a good iron for a wooden bodied plane

That's a hell of a score! Can't wait to see the rest. It appears whoever had this box was a furniture maker.

I’m inclined to agree now that you mention it, especially knowing what else is in there! 🧐😏👍🏽

18:41 I suspect that first wooden handle tool was to trim the edge off leather after something had cut a sharp crisp edge; this would leave a softer more rounded shape. The tool that manicurists use to trim cuticles is similar. A bunch of the wood handle tools look like leather working tools and upholstery tools.

Someone mentioned this box likely belonged to a furniture maker, which I’m inclined to agree with simply due to the variety of stuff in here!

Beautiful old tools! The tool that you said might be a small nail puller looks to actually be a leather edge beveler. Can’t wait to see the rest!

I’m not 100% either, it’s the same shape as a beveler, and Jennings made leather tools, but that’s what it looked like to me! It’s all good man, I’m enjoying your videos and vibe dude, nothing but love!

be gentle cleaning the "perfect handle" screwdrivers.. H.D Smiths can have a ribbon like makers mark on the shaft that aren't very pronounced to begin with. At least that's been my experience...

I was sent a list of Osborne tool patents on IG by a viewer, I’m going to (hopefully) cover that on the next video. If it doesn’t fit, I’ll definitely cover it before I wrap this one up. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it! 🙌🏽
