I think it says a lot about the aesthetics and style of this game that they made a boss fight which is, gameplay-wise, just a two button timing-based Simon Says game, but then make it the ABSOLUTE HYPEST SHIT EVER. I love this game so much.

Kale’s robot even has z-shielding on its arms and the blue forcefields on its chest, it literally could not be more of a boss fight

I do like how Kale manages to be a video game supervillain AND deliver funny dialogue without turning himself into a Marvel character.

I don't remember the last time a game had me fully laughing out loud, but that scene of Chai carrying Korsica to the train did it for me.

I love how *everyone* loves the Korsica fight, lol. Helps that it has the sexiest track in a game full of great ones.

Loved how Woolie was bouncing with joy at the start of the parry battle

47:13 But just imagine if Macaron actually cut loose tho. There has to be multiple alternate timelines where Macaron was pissed enough to take back Vandely from Kale almost single-handedly.

You can practically feel Woolie Judgement Nut... To the beat.

So many of the one-off gags in this game remind me of the best bits in Outer Worlds: written by a team that had suffered HORRIBLY under the mismanagement of corporate overlords, BURSTING with vitriol about how much they resent their higher-ups. And then there are the goofs that are just about game development, like CNMN's musing about the boss battle that wasn't. So much material.

Dang, Woolie *aced* that Korsica fight.

Other guys just like explode after being beaten meanwhile Korsica gets an idiot accidentally giving her 3 concussion in a row without even intent or malice when supposedly showing her mercy

Poor unconscious (and now concussed) Korsica. Now her n Chai have even more in common.

Woolie bouncing like a giddy kid on Christmas morning is such a delight. His excitement through this game has been the best part of it all.

I've seen people say Macaron has no character and I disagree, I think his main problem is that he's too normal next to everyone else being some brand of crazy or baffled at crazy. He has some great lines, but it's because the rest of the team's responses are so funny. And Chai's unexplainable nigh-invincibility continues - Korsica lost either a lung or heart and a good bit of her upper arms (the underside of the right one is pretty heavily scarred), but the person that threw themselves in front of her just needed a nap. Is being dumb a superpower in itself in this universe

I think there's a high likelihood that the real reason for her injury got cut. There was originally supposed to be a boss fight against Kale's robot, and it wouldn't surprise me if Korisca was more directly injured during that fight because, as you said, it doesn't make a lot of sense for her to be as injured as she is while Chai is not, considering they were both at the same proximity to the blast.

@@effortlessfury Chai survives even worse later, I think it would've ended up the same way actually. The MOST pain he's in the entire game is getting his face smashed into the grating in the beginning, considering he's full on screaming, but then he drinks one energy drink and it's like it never happened, same for every other would-be injury.

Macaron's crazy is that he gets a bit too into whatever's going on rn, like when Zanzo flicks the gift basket away and he seems to have forgotten that it isn't real.

Woolie near perfecting this fight becuase he knows the parry button is the true best girl, not korsica

It’s funny how if you miss that last QTE not only will Chai fail to catch Korsica, Macaron will be disappointed in you, and you won’t get as high of a grade you would’ve gotten for the level because that catch was part of it.

As someone who didn't see that qte coming on my first playthrough and fucked it up, I was really glad Woolie was ready for it lol.

Im just glad to see Woolie genuinely happy. I hope he continues to find more gems like this regardless of the genre

My favorite boss battle in the game. They did a great job creating a sense of rising tension, and the physical comedy gags afterward were great.

I only just noticed that that's a Cacodemon on Chai's left hand in that jacket. I think Tango did a LOT of talking to id while making this game.

Woolie, you misunderstand. Korsica didn't have any tech before Kale tried to kill her. What you're seeing is installed by Peppermint to save her life.

The implication that Korsica at some point between cut scenes was likely bleeding out from her chest, her lungs crushed and going into cardiac arrest while Peppermint, CNMN, and Macaron rushed to revive her and performed emergency critical surgery is disturbing....... but let's skip over that because we gotta get back to being rockstars! :P.

Glad to see Woolie has discovered the power of Hibiki this episode. Gotta be the best special move in the game, just due the sheer score increase you get just for using it.

i don't know if you see it, but the gangs names is a ref of tea . Chai = Chai tea Peppermint = Peppermint tea Macaron = tea Macaron (tea cake) CNMN = Cinnamon tea Korsica = corsica coffee (coffee brand)

To note: Korsica refers to him by name, not as 'Defect'. Small detail, but really sells it.

Chai is really coming into his own as the heart of the team. Not bad for a guy who was all about himself in the beginning.

I love when a game has different approaches to boss fights. I love a good combat system but I love when bosses throw curveballs like this. Korsica was prolly my favorite fight cuz of how much it stands out.

So fun times with the Shred combo: I know there's a bunch of people that mainly believe you gotta mash the heck out of why to get it to come out. And that breaks rhythm. But you actually don't have to mash it that much to pull it off. I've found the best way to pull it off and still keep your rhythm going is thusly: After hitting X you have to hit Y 2 times in one beat and then hit Y again on the next beat. So if () is one beat and . is skipping a beat it's (X)(YY)(Y). This way you can do it without dropping rhythm!

I double-tap Y at the third beat. X Y YY. It's basically the same as yours but it just makes a little more sense in my head. The mid-beat is when you switch from a heavy combo to Shred.

Think he’s more confused but if they used Armstrong tech for it. The person who says their robo bits are not Armstrong is Pepperment. It is mentioned that Korisca doesn’t have any herself at the start of the level I think but that’s it.

@@InfamousResult It's probably important to remember that Project Armstrong is only one set of technologies created by Vandelay, that was only just recently put into production and testing.

Yeah i have been eyeing out this game for a while and when i saw one of the later bosses (and the stage before the boss). I instantly went and bought the game. It's a shame we dont hear the tracks in those levels in Woolies playthrough but the originals are great too. Also the combo videos people are propably going to make are going to be sick.

And with that, Woolie has joined the Korsica club.

You just need to press Y twice after initiating the first heavy attack but before it lands. If the normal input for light heavy heavy would be X Y - Y, Shred is X Y YY.

@@manjackson2772 Yeah, the part where you have to press Y twice *before the first heavy attack hits* in a game where pressing buttons on the beat is important, makes me feel that "X Mash Y" is a more accurate description. "XY Mash Y" implies that you should wait for the first heavy attack to land before you start mashing Y instead. At least that's how my brain works.

Will admit the manditory parry segments are my most hated part of the game - at times i perfect them at times i miss everything 😄 Cant seem to catch timing properly and sadly i didnt find a way to practice it in the training room. Wish i was better at them

Aside from calibration as mentioned, the best way to do them is to not look at the animation, tap the order yourself on the controller, with a foot, etc as it happens. Korsica is the best example because she'll make movements that hit Chai sideways and you'll absolutely get hit if you're looking for them approaching and not following the guide.(can confirm, had an atrocious first attempt) To practice in the training room, you need to put one of the midbosses in with AI on and hit them enough so they get into the Rhythm Dodge sequence.

@@thelegalsystem I've seen people always bring up the "calibration tool," but when I tried it, it doesn't actually let you change anything. It's literally just a screen that shows you how "off" your latency is. When you move the bar around, there's no way to press a button and say "okay, video game, adjust for latency."

I’ve noticed Woolie seems to be avoiding combos that end in beat hits. I’m not sure why, they do more damage and provide more combo follow up opportunities, not to mention knocking batteries out of enemies.

And a score bonus! Even just using a Quick Beat over a light on an enemy that's near death will get you a couple hundred bonus points.

IDK why but Korsica is giving me Rule 63 Henry Cooldown vibes. Also if Woolie is going to keep bullying the poor Scrub bots 'cause "I need those gears for MORE MOVES!" he should be diligent on the boxes and big gear pick ups. Damn near missed two of them. Or just leave the scrub bots alone of their chump change. This one even paid you after freeing him.

Woolie can beat Grace and Glory here no problem, but they woop his ass in Bayo?

I loved the boss, but the level was probably the weakest. It runs a little long and isn't visually or mechanically interesting enough to justify it.

Now play Sekiro again and play it like this boss fight.

I feel fucking robbed of an actual boss battle by this fight. Especially cause Chai is the Jetstream Sam.

I mean, there is a cut actual boss battle in CH-AS1R (the robot that attacks them afterwards) involved. Probably cut because it wouldn't work as its own level and The Climb is long enough.

I was happy with the Korsica "showdown," but I was kind of sad that we didn't get a real Zanzo fight. THAT felt like we were robbed. When you think about it, you don't get any "boss fights" between Rekka and Mimosa, and it's kind of wild.
