Parliament is completely Dysfunctional,We Need a National Movement to Revitalise it: Kapil Sibal

Support The Interview with Karan Thapar - fij.mojo.page/support-the-int...
One of India’s most senior politicians, who has been a member of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, says parliament has become “completely dysfunctional” and, he adds, “it is steadily getting worse”. Kapil Sibal says that whilst we know what needs to be done to revitalize parliament, on its own politicians will not implement the required measures and, therefore, it must fall on the people of India to raise their voice and say enough is enough and parliament has to change the way it functions. Within the people of India he identified lawyers as people who must lead what he called “a national movement” to change the functioning of parliament.

The autocratic ruling dispensation has reduced the parliament to a joke at public expense. With zero governance, country is on auto pilot. Shocking to witness the lack of morals or responsibility to the nation from the very same who profess to be nationalists. Does not a single parliamentarian have a conscience?

I am certain there must be politicians with active conscience, but what I am bloody sure of is they are profoundly outnumbered by corrupt ones. The question is if they will show spine and stand defiantly in the face of goons and save democracy.

The two gujju thugs sponsored by Adani and Ambani never experienced Parliamentary process before 2014 and are used to autocratic rule of their state for over 15 years. Neither of them have proper education, were born and raised in ghettos and have no regard for the concept of 'Union of India'. These thugs can't comprehend that what they're doing is wrong on many levels, literally they have financial backing of every single gujju business of this country. So it's very delusional for all of us to have not realised that this reality was in the making for he last 8 years - it's high time people are waking up before it's too late.

This is an important interview. Member of Parliament, Shri Kapil Sibal ji has dealt with many important issues relating to functioning of parliament. Unfortunately, there has been a systematic erosion of the authority of parliament in the recent past. Parliament is an elected body by the people and if MPs are not allowed do their duties, we are failing the people. The ruling party with their majority is not respecting the conventions and practices hitherto being followed. The antidefection law must be scrapped lock stock and barrel . If an elected MLA or MP wants to defect to another party, first he should sign his legislative post and should be debarred from contesting elections for next five years. It is a very sensible opinion. If it is followed, there will hardly be any defection. Now the disgruntled politicians have made a mockery of Indian democracy by their lust for money and power. The 'resort politics' is a new dimension being followed nowadays. How is it that many elected MLAs flying in chartered flights to far off places and pull the strings to bring down the duly elected government? Who actually fiances their flight charges, stay in five star hotels etc? All this is done in the name of the people, who elected them on certain party ticket. If an MLA chooses to defect to another party, disregarding the will of the people, the people and the party which got them elected on their party ticket become helpless and mere spectators. This is murder of democracy and should be condemned.

It's the need of the hours to get Narendra Modi seated in an Interview before Karan Thapar. I hope Narendra Modi will be even unable to answer a single question despite being the Head of the Government. He will at that very moment abscond. Such an arrogant and dumb PM India elected to power who lacks guts to face debate even in Parliament. Then, what's the function of Parliament ?

probably with the corruption at its peak in 2014 and even now (as you see in Bengal) we needed a dictator very badly for some time to force as be honest. normally an y habit of the society takes a full generation of 20-25yrs to have a lasting impact of change

Not only the speaker but the governor, the president and even the PM of the country is not expected to work on behalf of a party for the reason they represent the entire country now having been elected to the respective posts and hence are supposed to function in a totally unbiased manner and in the interest of the country.

Why cant the concerned people from opposition setup a live conference outside the parliament and show the flaws in these bills that get passed. This will show that opposition has value to add. The only thing happens in parliament is noise and nothing else.

Shri Kapil Sibal ji, What ,in your opinion, are the reasons for the lack of proper debate in the parliament houses ? Could it be because, the present opposition is devoid of speakers and competent members ? The second issue you observed is the diminishing periods of functioning of parliament houses . Could you clarify if it is because the opposition indulges in disruptions instead of debating ? Is it that the opposition is falling in to a trap being laid by BJP by unwittingly indulging in disruptions ? Then you in to quite bjp leaders who defended disruptions . But do you think the issues that BJP was disrupting were about corruption and refusal of ruling party to allow any discussion unlike today's issues which are not national but personal line ED questioning Soniaji and Rahul baba ! Then,Shri Karan Thapar, our great Naionalist who was happy to escape to a more civilised country ,talks about revitalising the parliament . Can you tell how many in the present opposition who can command the respect of the house lije Vajpayiji,Sushma,Pramod Mahajan and scores if others ? About the scrutiny part, don't you think opposition hadly attends the standing committees and rarely contributes to the proposed legislations objectively . And sending to select or standing committee delay the legislative process , as a norm . Unfortunately, the quality of opposition is so degenerated that people have stopped expecting any thing meaningful from opposition... Defection law ! Your a happy part of PV forming a minority govt but now you oppose the same law ! PMLA ! Can you explain to us what your objection is to the anendanent which denies bail, permits arrests without FIR and puts the onus in the accused to prove his guilt or otherwise. You seem to be thinking that judiciary is failing the country ! Is it because courts are giving judgements in favour of Govt even if they are legally and ethically right ! And finally, you seem to be instigating people to revolt against elected Govt . Sorry to say, this attitude if yours didn't add to your image and reputation of a man who can boldly stands up against dynasts
