Parkview Bowl - Game 1 - 11/17/2017

I traveled to Rochester, NY to bowl at Parkview Bowl with my friend Chris, who bowls league there. This is my second time bowling there. They have wood lanes, hand oiled, and it's a challenge. Hope you enjoy the videos.

Why on earth was the sweep on the left lane goin up half way after it swept away the pins knocked over? Great video

For some reason, the sounds of these old wooden alleys and pins remind me EXACTLY of the old Brookside Bowl in Delaware. It also reminds me of the old Papp's bowling alley in Bordentown Nj with the straight, open top ball return and scoring by hand. Good stuff.

Those are tough lanes to bowl on if you have no experience with them. I bowled there a few times almost 50 years ago and it was a tough house for us lefties. Thanks for the video.

Also, on the PBA Tour, they always say that Nobody ever misses a 5 pin, ha ha, I thought that was SO FUNNY when I heard it, I think it was Randy Pederson that said that too :)

Looks like the old wooden lanes need to be replaced with synthetic lanes and approaches as well, could use a little bit of updating, but I love the video though

I love the masking units and the wood lanes! Brings me back a ways! If the lanes are oiled by hand, how is there friction outside the first arrow on the left hand side Chris? Lane topography? Is it due to the fact that the mechanic runs towels on the first 5 boards and oils the rest of the lane? How is the shot on the right side of the lane?

irishpogi He oils them normally, then strips the oil off of the first five boards on the left to provide some friction for us lefties. Righties can play farther inside due to the greater friction on the right side that naturally occurs with old wood lanes, but trying to cover a lot of boards isn't wise

Chris, you're telling me the track area on the right is not playable? How far down does the oil go?

irishpogi Sure the track area on the right is playable, but because the lanes are oiled by hand, the oil is not consistent across the lane. If you try covering a lot of boards you'll hit wet and dry areas that will prevent a consistent reaction. Straighter is generally greater there. Lanes are infrequently stripped so oil sometimes goes all 60 feet.

John McDevitt I was using a haywire for strikes and white dot for spares. Chris was using an original black hammer on one lane, which was shinier...and a rubber LT 48 on the other, which was duller
