As an ecologist and environmental biologist, I think this and Cascadia are right up my alley!

My wife is not a very serious gamer but she really likes this game because it is chill and the aesthetics are beautiful. I would definitely say those are the main draws of the game. I think the equipment becomes kind of worthless because if you want to buy it, it means you can’t buy a park, which is how you win. I wouldn’t play it with serious gamers, and I would never play a full four seasons with more than 3 people, but for my wife and I, it is a perfect game.

This was very close to our own experience, yes. It's a great 2 player game for casual play.

Just like in Tokaido, always move as little as possible to collect as much as possible - this is the whole game.

Reminds me quite a bit of Tokaido! I think I'd like this. Have you tried Trails? I wonder what that's like.

Yes, the basic mechanism where you move forward is very similar to Tokaido. No, we have not tried Trails yet, but it seemed like Parks lite.

I have trails and have played it a few times. It’s fun, you collect resources and then buy cards with those resources; at the end of the game you add up your points and most points win. Lots of potential strategy and sabotage

I'm looking forward on getting this game. I'd like to ask if the gameplay complexity is challenging enough for long-time players? I'm just a beginner at board games, but I'm hoping for Parks to be challenging enough for experienced players because I don't want it to be too easy for a beginner like me. Thanks!

I enjoy your review style, but for this one, I was not expecting the final ratings. I thought the review gave more of a middle of the road "Good" 6/10?... But glad it was higher as this game is sitting on my shame shelf.

It's Fantastic for 2 players. For more then that it would for sure deserve a lesser of a rating.

What would you adjust to make the game better as you said? House rules to improve the game? Thanks

I would do two things. 1) never play four seasons with more that 3 people. 2) make it so you can buy a park and equipment at the end of the trail, otherwise the equipment is kinda worthless and you aren’t even touching hose components.

These are good tips. We for sure would start with shortening the game. And another thing is adding more value to the calendar cards. They give so little points that in most cases it's just not worth collecting parks for them.

Good point with the calendar cards. I almost forgot about them. Even playing a full game and having the tile out that lets you buy more than two parks per round, I haven’t often got the second level of the calendar.

If you already enjoy the game, the Nightfall expansion addresses the dissatisfaction with the Calendar cards by adding more than can be scored multiple times.
