    thank you! ended up with 30 points for my first solo playthrough hehe. ngl I was very lucky during the last season. the ranger was taking one/two steps and that let me to visit 2 more parks and claim a photo to gain extra points via my personal bonus, however in doing so, I let the ranger take my camera. gosh I've only been playing board games for the past 3-4 months and I'm already certain that Parks is on my top 3 favourite board games of all time. gorgeous design and perfect game for beginners :D

    Glad you like it! It's such a simple/elegant way to implement a solo mode that keeps the multiplayer game feeling intact. The scores can swing quite a bit due to randomness, but it's not really the primary focus anyways. If you are just getting into gaming and want a few more recommendations on solo games I did a video all about that a couple of months ago. I try to give them in rough order of complexity. At 6:15 (the start of the playthrough), should the last tile with the 2 suns have a water token on it instead of a sun based off of the season card? I just went back to the rules explanation section, and it looks like you put a water token on it originally, but then it was a sun when you started the playthrough. Loved the video. It's a great explanation of the solo mode. Thank you!

    I’m sooo confused… thought the rules said to draw a gear card every turn for each ranger and hiker to determine where they move?? And when u start a new season how do u know who goes first? What’s the difference between a ranger and a hiker??? Also if u land on a resource to begin with on the trail.. don’t u have to fill that tracker? Or how do u know when to fill that ranger tracker ???? Sorry for all the questions

    17:13 didn’t you use the visit a park action on the tile that says you can reserve a park? Reserve and visit are two different actions.

    Hi there, thanks for watching. I took a few days to respond because I wanted to make sure I looked up the rules first. I recorded this over a year ago so I don't remember the actually playthrough much (haha) but looking at the video I seemed to do it correct at the time stamp you gave. Page 4 of the rulebook under "Advanced Trail Sites" says the Lookout tile can "Reserve or Visit a Park or Buy a Gear card." So yes, reserving and visiting are two different things, but at least in the version of the rulebook I used this tile can do both. Unless I'm missing something obvious.

    How do you determine who goes first in the new season when playing solo? Follow the triangle? Also, with the game set up, is it the default to have both the triangle and camera in my possession?

  • @boardgameplays

    @boardgameplays

    10 ай бұрын

    Hi Jennier. Sorry it took a few days to respond, it's been a bit since I've played on solo and had to look up the rules. Yes, you start with both the camera and triangle (go first token) in a solo game. On subsequent rounds, yes, you follow whoever has the triangle. The way for the Ranger to steal the triangle is to draw a "1 Sunshine Cost" gear card when moving to the Trail End tile. That is their reward for taking that spot on the Trail End tile. Of course, if you want to guarantee you go 1st the next round, you need to move to the trail end first and take that spot. Here's the line in the rulebook: "TOP SLOT - Discard the left-most Park on the board. The Ranger moves right to the slot and gains the if you have not already claimed the slot for the Season. If you have, then the Ranger moves to the Reserve a Park area, making the action unavailable until the next Season." Hope that helps.

    With the photo card do you take one photo at the end or one per hiker?

  • @boardgameplays

    @boardgameplays

    7 ай бұрын

    Great question! Sorry it took a bit to respond cause I've been out a few days. You have only 1 opportunity at season's end to take a photo for the cost of 1 token, if you're holding the camera at season's end. So once total, not once per hiker.

    Just rewatched it. Yup, I was focused on how I forgot to take a picture and didn't go back and discard it. Thankfully I don't seem to ever visit that park, so it probably hurt me in the long run (which is better than winning off a player error, which I've done before too 🙃). It is humbling to record yourself. It's surprising how easy it is to make mistakes like that.

    Ok I’m sorry last comment…. So I’ve watched ur video 4 times now. So if a ranger lands on a resource it goes on the tracker right? And if he lands on one without a resource bc a hiker has taken it.. he does nothing right. I don’t collect whatever action it says to do unless I’m a hiker right???? And last question.. I think im making sense of this one.. if all my hikers are left out on the trail and my rangers made it to the end only one action out of the three is taken at the end and both r forced to the end right? And if both rangers are still out and my hikers all ended the trail no action is taken by them and there both forced to the end right? I’m sorry for the comments. Played 4 rounds with my bf a few days ago. We both loved it. Now I wanted to figure out solo mode! I learn better when I do. That’s why I’ve watched ur video 4 times. I think I understand it. But it doesn’t matter what color the rangers and hikers are.. just that the hikers are in the front and rangers in the back??? Is what I got out of it

  • @boardgameplays

    @boardgameplays

    It's really helpful you've played with your boyfriend and have seem the regular game in action. I think possibly you are confused about the terms. You play 2 Hikers, just like the multiplayer game. You are the Hikers. So when you take your turn (move a Hiker down the trail) you do that just like a regular game. You can move 1 space, or jump to the end, you choose. The Rangers are your opponent. Don't think of them as your tokens. You select a different color to play the Rangers to show you they are not really your pieces. They are taking moves to block you and make life more difficult (they basically stand in for the other player because without someone to block you the game would be too boring). So whichever color you select for the Ranger isn't you (in this video you Rangers are pink). But, you have to take the Rangers turns for them. That's why you flip the gear cards, as a way to randomize what the opponent (Rangers) are doing. There's a section in the back of the rulebook that determines which of the 2 Rangers move, it could be the front or back one depending on where they are relative to your Hikers. So after you go, the Rangers take a random turn. Also, depending on which gear card they use to step on the End of the Trail tile will determine which bonus they take. For questions like "can you stand on the same space" it's similar to multiplayer you played with your boyfriend. If you want to go to a space with a Ranger, you have to use your campfire. If you don't have your campfire you can't do it. Also "who goes 1st the next round", same as multiplayer. If you have the green triangle, you do. If they took it in an End of the Trail bonus, they do. Hope that helps.

  • @boardgameplays

    @boardgameplays

    7 ай бұрын

    Hi there, thanks for the question. In the normal multiplayer mode you can move as far as you want down the trail. The gear cards in the solo mode only determine how far the solo opponents "rangers" move down the trail. So only the AI movement is randomly determined by the cards. I get to go to the right as fast as I want. Hope that helps.
