Especially in someone with mental problems who has distorted thinking. I agree, and believe that when Nicks mom died , he felt so abandoned and alone, that he turned to hatred, instead of sadness. There was no one on his side anymore. And he just wanted to make someone responsible and take notice of the state of his life, that he couldn't handle without his mother, the only person who truly loved him, and stood up for him.

She’s another reason why these children are so screwed up .. she’s disorganized and she’s unprepared.. Most people who have been through any kind of therapy knows they all say you get 15 minutes! by the time your therapist gets there sits down in their chair, start drifting through paper, get bored and then … they’re ready to go home.. Most the time she just guesses and she seems to be pretty familiar with all the medication. You have to wonder if she got a kickback from prescribing all these medication‘s .. big pharma is another Hugh problem Because all they care about is making money. That’s the bottom line

Have you been paying any attention at all? A consistent theme through this trial has been that Nicholas’s adoptive mother was resistant to getting help for him. She didn’t even tell his teachers that he was adopted until she felt she had to; those aren’t the actions of someone who is looking for help and support. She tried to hide her child’s issues to save her own reputation as a mother, and it ended up creating a monster.

It’s funny because some of us who had terrible childhoods had deal with it on our own. We never had help from the system or seen child psychiatrists, but are not out here unaliving people! We aren’t planning school shootings! He chased kids down the hallways, he shot into classroom windows, and he shot people at point range. After the shooting, he blended with the crowd of kids and walked out of that school. He went to McDonalds and chatted with the brother of one of his victims. When he was caught, he was pretending to see demons because he wanted to blame someone else for his actions. The “system’” failure didn’t help him to premeditate the murder of 17 people! Does this sound like the behavior of an insane person? Still waiting to see an insane person strategically planned out something like this. The psychiatrist said that he’s competent. He is an adult and he chose to do this! Have zero sympathy for him.

How this psychiatrist thinks a school would do a neuropsych evaluation is ridiculous, along with the fact that she didn’t know he was born from a mother who did drugs/alcohol during her pregnancy. That’s BASIC intake information that would direct course of treatment. ALSO-home based behavioral services are voluntary so adopted mom decided to terminate, then decided to do what she wanted with the Risperdal, which by the way, is an antipsychotic medication. I’m sorry, but in this state, that would be neglect of Nik’s mental and behavioral health needs. Also, the history of constantly trying to address the behavioral symptoms with ADHD medication is infuriating. The field of psychiatry for children is often a subjective crapshoot that relies on parental opinion, not real data. Did this psychiatrist ever speak directly with a school professional to see how the meds were working in conjunction with the adopted mom? Systemic failure.

Nikolas Cruz shouldn’t be given a hall pass for doing what he did just because he had a messed up childhood. Fortunately, I don’t think anyone is giving him a hall pass as his two fates are either death or life in prison without parole. Either way, he’s paying for his actions. As he should. That all said, it’s also clear that he had a lot of issues that were outside of his control and a lot of people ultimately let him down. He was doomed from the start, so in that vein I do feel bad for him and I don’t want to judge. So yes, while he should be held accountable for what he did, those who let him slip through the cracks and not take his warning signs more seriously should also be held accountable. This is a kid who NEVER should have been allowed to purchase a firearm. Smh 🤦‍♂️

As a parent, it was disturbing to see young children lining up at the office to receive that medication. It reminded me of a psyche hospital.

I seriously question the safety of putting the mind and body through such a whiplash roller coaster ride of chemicals. Especially a young, developing mind! It takes several weeks to become fully effective, after just a few days there would have been zero change in his behavior. It’s literally impossible. It is absolutely jaw-dropping to find out that someone this incompetent was a practicing child psychiatrist for so long.

I have worked in the behavioral health field many years, and worked with many psychiatrists, and this is how they work. They constantly change medications until the parents report that a specific cocktail works. They only see the children for about 30 min max and don’t have a follow up apt until the next refill. Unfortunately this is how the system is set up, it is just a guessing game until you find something that helps, and once it no longer does they increase the dosage.

Today, I was at a shelter, and I talked to homeless men, asked them what they wanted to do in their lives. 1 man said that he is not good at anything, which surprised me, because he didnt even try, and the other one said he wanted to rule the word and become a film maker. I said to him “wow! That’s good. What type of film do you want to make?” He answered “experiments, things that are not moral”. I straight away understood that he was not okay in his mind. The social workers dont seem to care that much. These men come to eat, take a shower, surf the Internet, take tins. A person with that state of mind shouldn’t be allowed to own or purchase a gun. The system has failed all of the victims. What the court is not addressing that there is an entire industry in South Florida Adoption agencies that pay women with unplanned/unwanted pregnancies and severe substance abuse issues, usually homeless. They help the mother get Medicaid for prenatal care in exchange for housing and X amount of $ per month for living expenses, food, hygiene etc. The pregnant women than receive a large amount of money, usually in a lump sum after the baby is born & adoption is complete. There are literally women that are abusing drugs that actually use this system as a means of paying for their lifestyle. I personally know a mother & father, junkies, that find the cheapest place to live during pregnancy so they had more money for their recreational habits monthly. Once she gives birth the have unprotected sex asap until she’s pregnant again and they sign up all over again and make a new contact with another family. It’s absolutely insane.

Many schools nationwide have been cutting programs such as music, art, sports, etc. Consider the enormous resources spent on the shooter until the "event" as the massacre has been referred to repeatedly and euphemistically. I have interviewed many violent offenders in my role as a criminologist and researcher. Many of these offenders were willing to speak to me candidly, and reported how often they were able to "con" those in the psychiatric field and that interfacing with me was a refreshing "reality" check. By the way, many of these offenders had tortured animals in their youth, as did the offender. Do you recall how many times the latter purported to love animals and wanted a dog? By the way, I was a teacher for 10 years prior to shifting my career to criminology. This shift was not predicated in a vacuum. I will say no more as this trial is ongoing.
