Parkinson In Australia 17 October 1981

Here we have a very special presentation. The entire Parkinson episode that my Mother was in. With her were two amazing gentlemen, Jack Fingleton and Fred Archer in addition to a wonderful number performed by The Jenny Sheard Trio. Historically speaking, this had to be uploaded in it's entirety. Anything less would go against my very reason for having this channel in the first place. Below will be time stamps so that you can pick your favorite parts or just sit back and enjoy the entire show, as it would have been presented.
00:00 Intro
02:24 Jack Fingleton
22:12 The Jenny Sheard Trio
26:38 Rita Hunter
36:23 Rita Hunter singing Porgi Amor with Geoffrey Arnold on piano
39:28 Rita Hunter interview continued
46:31 Rita Hunter singing "Cabaret"

I love Rita Hunter so much. She was my very first "Brunnhilde" at the Metropolitan Opera. She was so exciting! I've since dug up her recordings of THE RING in English, which is a whole different treat. Now I have this marvelous show where I discover who is behind the fabulous voice. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Delightful! I can listen to Rita Hunter telling her life stories and anecdotes for hours. She sings ‘Porgi Amor’ From Mozart’s NOZZE DI FIGARO and ‘Come to the cabaret’ from the musical CABARET. What a range! A very talented and funny lady who never forgot her roots.

This is a truly amazing document! Being from the States, much of the local celebrity factor is lost on me, but as one who believes in preserving things, I am delighted that the whole thing has been so carefully restored by Mairwyn simply for posterity's sake. And Rita Hunter - what a vibrant, articulate and entertaining woman! She sings a ravishing "Porgi amor", and then takes [sorry] one of my less favorite tunes from one of my favorite shows and absolutely nails it to the wall. How many "Crossover Cathys" have we seen and heard trying such a thing and failing? Too many! Here Rita pays homage to the musical roots she had just discussed earlier in the show, and delivers the goods in a way which is stylistically spot on yet founded on rock-solid "classical" technique. I imagine this is the sort of impact Sophie Tucker must have had on her audiences in the generation of performers the young Rita Hunter would have recognized as stars. The brilliant band certainly adds to the illusion - as a former trumpet player, I must say I was quite impressed! Thank you, Rita and Mairwyn, for visiting our living rooms in this delightful way!
