This was quite a feat of strength for me to complete. A lot of these videos do tend to be like that but THIS one was particularly difficult. I had so much going on, in real life, that just seemed to happen one thing after another. One particular situation arose that was very hurtful and it is something that I will address later. But I managed to face it and get through it. My love and care for this archival project is in tact and remains a steadfast part of my being. I care very deeply about my Mother's past performances and I care very deeply about bringing this "past" to those who still listen to her. I wanted to also take this opportunity to personally thank Martin Dixie who runs a Joan Sutherland channel here on KZread www.youtube.com/@lastupendajoansutherland5801 I had a lot of photographs from this Don Carlos performance and without his keen eye for detail, I would not have been able to present good quality photographs. He was kind enough to enhance these photos for me in addition to running his own channel at the same time. I am deeply grateful for his support in this Don Carlos project in addition to being honoured to call him a friend. Also, please consider supporting this archival project by buying me a coffee www.buymeacoffee.com/brunny2022H funds received will go towards the equipment I need in order to transfer the endless cassettes that I have.

Thank you for posting this wonderful memory for us to relive Mairwyn. Please don't feel pressured to have to create new material quickly, nobody needs stress these days, and finding your Mum on KZread has been a rare treat for many. Everything you post on here is a treasure and unexpected pleasure. Your Mum was an extraordinary artist with a wonderful voice and personality.

I am so happy that people are enjoying this. I have had a TON of emails and messages (those that don't like commenting on videos which, I totally understand). It has been an outpouring of love and support for her AND me! It is kind of hard to explain. It is sort of like a pressure but not in the conventional sense. My pressure is not so much releasing the material quickly but making sure that Mum is out there? I have so many ideas and plans. Imagine a playlist that has her first Immolation and her last and ALL of them that are in between! To hear all those performances over the years. I have enough here to do that and I really want to make that a reality. I have the catalog to do it. I can safely say that no one has the catalog of Immolations that I have and I am so proud of that! But There is but ONE thing that I would dearly love to have. I know it is out there and it is something that I will not rest until I can have it and release it. Her Odabella from Attila in the 60's. I have the photographs. It was broadcast but she was sick that night but I know there is one out there and I refuse to believe it is the ONLY one that is out there. SET OFF THOSE JUNGLE DRUMS EVERYONE!!! Rita's daughter would like to finally hear that performance and have the rightful pleasure of releasing it her fans. Credit will go to the one who not only FINDS the person who has it but also the person who lets me have it

With so much Verdi and so little idle time, what's the best go-to-bit to sample from this treasure? The big duets (we get an extra one with Carlos @ Fontainebleau AND the "new" Eboli duet!)? The Act Five aria, perhaps? There's time for those, and I hope sooner rather than later. :-) No, for me it's Elisabeth's consolation of the recently unemployed Countess of Aremberg which I would like most to hear in *our* Rita's voice. It's all there: the rich tone, the exquisite legato, the floating top - the sadness at the beginning gives way to warmth and sunshine as Elisabeth recalls their beloved homeland, wishing no doubt she could join her handmaid and escape all "this". These few minutes go far toward explaining our mutual love and admiration for Dame Rita and her art. I look forward to finding the time to really dig into this excellent artifact, and we are all most grateful to Mairwyn for all of the work and time and love which went into the presentation. Mum would be so proud, m'dear!

Thanks so much for posting!!! Maestro Howell is as usual impressive and perfect in anything he sings. Rita Hunter gives a very lovely interpretation of Elisabetta!!! By the way I am not able to find anything else sang by tenor Tom Swift indeed I unfortunately never heard him before but he sounds quite exciting in the autodafè scene. Is there anything else sang by maestro Tom Swift??? I wish I could hear much more from him!!!

Mum sang her fair share of Il Trovatore's with darling Tom. He was a reliable tenor staple at ENO for quite some time. When I came to research photos for him, I was horrified to find there was NOTHING. It was at this point that I realised that this project of saving Mum's recordings is not JUST about her. It is about everyone else that she shared the stage with. It is so important to me boarding on essential. Tom was such a lovely man. Good for a giggle (of which there was much of that with him and Mum together LOL) and soooo kind. He always called me "Little One". "Hello Tom!". "Hello Little One!".

@@ritahunterlafavorita thanks for posting it!!! Nice to know you had a chance to meet Tom and that He was such a lovely man!!! Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything about Tom through the net only this recording of Don Carlo. He really sounds great in the role and it's a pity I cannot hear something else sang by him, anyway... Long life to the great artists of opera from UK!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Saw the Dress then 3 performances. Du Plessis was good looking baritone but he sang the likes of Luna in Trovatore and Rodrigo far too early and ended up as many young singer do by not saying NO.The stand out performances are Rita,Gwynne and Richard.
