Parking brake cable removal tool (Chevy + Dodge). Saved $75!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I show a tool I altered to remove parking brake cables from the steel retainer on chevys and dodges.
I attribute my successes to god and give him the glory.

I feel real "derp!" Bought this tool at a scratch and dent, clueless on what it's for. Now I know... THANKS
Just did this tonight, thanks for the tutorial. Thankfully my adjuster broke so cable was slacked.
Nice , just love these little tips and tricks , thanks 👌👌👌
Thanks, was struggling to get one of these brake cable connectors apart. Made a version of your tool with a cheap old pair of channel lock style plyers and after a few tweaks with grinder finally got it apart. Great idea!
It's actually much easier to remove that if you apply the parking brake then use vice grips at the rear bracket to hold the cable, then release the brake pedal. This way you have plenty of slack and can do that without any tool at all pretty much.

Nice tool idea though.

I was going to add the same comment. I did the vise grip at the rear bracket to hold the cable which gave me the slack. The problem was that the little slug was frozen in this retainer. So, this tool idea would still have come in handy. I did without but it took me 15 minutes to knock it out of there.
Got $6 Pittsburgh channel locks and made this. Works perfectly
Thanks for making and showing this. Looks pretty successful. A little more light under the truck would have helped but you probably already know that. I was amazed when replacing the front cable e brake cable on my truck that its just this piece of bent metal holding the emergency brakes back. Slightly unsettling in a truck that often has brake line failures.

I know what you mean. Most of the brackets on the frame seem pretty Thin and under built. Sorry for the bad lighting. I wasn’t prepared to record that part. It was after work and while I was walking into the house i spur of the moment figured I’d record using it.
Great tip regarding the channel locks saved quite a bit of money on that one ;), worth watching thanks
Tool works great. If you had pulled on each side of the cable, and locked it in place with vice grip at each side, it would have given you enough slack to fit the end piece thru the center channel. Took about 10 minutes with cut off tool to make the tool. Have to be careful to pick pliers that open wide enough. Thank you!
Jason, you are a great human being. You are right all the glory goes to God!! I wish you all the best. Thank you for the Video.

You are awesome! Thank you so much for the help.
GREAT TOOL IDEA MAN . THANKS!!
Thanks for the tip it worked perfectly 👍
My 1991 k1500 has a tension adjusting point where you can get some slack in the system. Another way is to just cut the cable and put a new one back in. The problem for me is finding the correct length cable. Les Schwab was trying to make it a $1000 dollar job.
great idea, thanks bud
Great idea!
Brilliant. Thank you. Lowe's has craftsman and kobalt channel lock style pliers on sale now, 2 sizes for $12.00 I'm off there to make one of these. I will add your loop idea. Kind regards. Craig

No problem glad I could help. I really wanted to get the one from the picture but I just couldn’t justify the cost. I probably wouldn’t need it again in the next 5 years. I was pretty happy with the results.
Good idea thanks for sharing.

No problem thank you for taking the time to watch.
I didn't even have to modify my channel locks, I was able to just get the corner of it to bite in just enough to pull it free, after spending an hour trying to pry the clamp apart.
Sick
Maybe you could have just cut the connector in half and with the two ends on the ground you could pry each end apart from the cable New connectors sre only $3.00
Could've used Mole grips (vice grips), lock in place and both hands free to release the cable. Brightness was fine.

That would have been better to use a pair of vise grips to make this. Maybe I can put a loop on these to hold the handles closed. Thank you.
Good idea, how’s it work putting it back on?

😳 I haven’t tried putting it back on yet. To be honest I didn’t even think about that. Now I’m curious.
I don't blame you for not paying for the 85usd ones. Yours just need a bit of tweeking and they will do the job fine.

It worked pretty well for what it cost. I’m glad I made it now, I probably won’t need it for a while but at least I know I have it if I do.
I'm forwarding you the $75. And a can of PB Blaster. That was sorta painful to watch.

$100+ for a good grinder + the disk to do this and the cost to replace the channel locks.

The channel locks were $10 at Walmart. I wouldn’t say you need a good grinder but if that’s what you’d like I’d say buy once cry once. You used to be able to get a grinder at harbor freight for $20. Either way I guess it’s not for everyone.

@@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic don't matter any way. I think previous owner replaced the cable. my disconnect don't look like that. so the tool is useless.

Do you have a part number? The ones I saw weren’t the same, but if they are only 9 dollars I’m sure people would like to get those.

@@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic I may have a deferent tool you're looking for. The one I have is the one that compasses the clamp on the E-brake cable to assist with the removal of the cable from the rear Calipers.
Great tool, bad lighting
