This concept worked perfectly well for her because she's super witty. If an idol is not quick with responses, it will not be as effective as gyuri. Also, during that time, she got hate for it but she never faltered, she stuck by her persona so eventually hating on her became so lame, haters gave up.

Every once in a while I come back and rewatch this video lol. I know she's already said this was a concept but looking back you realise just how important having a female idol like her was. Someone who didn't care for humility politics and allowed her self confidence to shine wherever she went, regardless of whether it made men uncomfortable or not. KARA's amazing legacy aside, she will always be one of my favourite idols of all time for this.

Personally I think you're over thinking it. This is not about women simply thinking positively because if any woman actually behaved like this in real she'd obviously be a complete cunt and a horrible person. The reality is that this is just comedy. She's obviously very funny and doesn't take herself seriously, even though she is stunning. This video made me laugh my ass off.

I don't think there's an idol these days quite like her who promotes such positive self-image a lot of idols think they're not good enough or they're ugly even though they're precious irl but gyuri is happy with herself and loves her image whatever people say and I think that's amazing and something to look up to. she's a real idol in the true sense of the word

I love her always, and when she said that she is not going to feel hurt because 8 people from Korea doesn't considered her pretty. Literally, is the best response I've heard from an idol in these kind of things, because the comedians and whatever, they're kind of malicious and want to take Gyuri out of that bubble, but yes, she is confident, so what?

At 06:00 it ironically shows why she's a genius. She noticed her bandmates were uncomfortable to answer the question because it (potentially) would blow up her persona/gimmick. Then she answered the question herself which makes her look dumb, which in a way strengthen her persona even more. Plus having that mentality to always put up that persona on national television and not be bothered when she got slandered, and ALSO always have answers when she got asked ridiculous question. She's truly built to be an entertainer.

gyro's image worked sp well because she was witty and self-aware while still being insanely confident. she was quick, funny, while still maintaining a sense of awareness so you couldn't hate her. truly a queen amongst the second generation idols. Her and sooyouing were variety goddesses

i love her Goddess concept! she's witty and hilarious~ imo, she's the only idol who can pull off this kind of concept without being bashed by the public lol (those people who hated her goddess concept must have no sense of humor :P )

I don't think anyone realizes how important it was to have an idol with a concept like Gyuri at this time. She was such a role model for me in the mid 2000s and I wanted to be just as confident and unbothered as she was. Now that I'm grown, I realize it was just a made up concept she used as a defense mechanism, however that somehow makes her seem even more admirable and strong. I don't watch Euphoria but there is this one famous quote from that show that always reminds me of Gyuri, “90% of life is confidence, and the thing about confidence is that no one knows if it's real or not".

Didn't think anyone could pull off this concept but Gyuri is hilarious. Matter-of-fact expressions and actually smart replies, like the negative comment one for example. Some of these can be used in real life, what more do you need from an idol?!

I think Gyuri was the only female idol who ever did that Goddess character. And not only did she make it work but she was not even lying. She was and still is gorgeous. No one can carry out this persona and feat quite like her, even to this day. I would not advise other people including woke Hollywood to follow her example like it were some plug-n-play formula - they'd come off as just arrogant, narcissistic, and out of touch, without any of her warmth, sass, and charm.

Looking at how the youngest members of KARA laughing out loud whenever Gyuri brought up her jokes makes me feel warm. I've been a fan for more than a decade, and Gyuri has always been a mother to other members...KARA is a family... exact same reason why we are called Kamilia 🎉

I know back in the day, she irked a lot of fans of other girl groups thinking "how dare she think she's the most beautiful idol out there", but like any young fan, they don't realize that making such comments in a variety show is so much more entertaining. This is why I miss No Holds Barred Gyuri on variety shows.

Gyuri has a bit of foreign look to her. Maybe the voters prefer traditional Korean beauties. Or perhaps they just follow the trend and bandwagon. KARA is no longer in their heyday sadly. Though I agree Gyuri looks stunning and I would definitely rank her tops among 2nd Gen GG (I’m unfamiliar with the current GGs)

It was deemed as a concept exactly because it was an ideal not yet achieved at its times. Namely, that it shouldn't be weird at all for women to be confident and outspoken, that women are never mere objects under the gaze of men.
