LYRICS
There is not a single word in the whole world
That could describe the hurt
The dullest knife just sawing back and forth
And ripping through the softest skin there ever was
How were you to know?
Oh, how were you to know?
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I've been there before
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I've been there before
Love happens all the time
To people who aren't kind
And heroes who are blind
Expecting perfect scripted movie scenes
Who wants an awkward silent mystery?
How were you to know?
Well, how were you to know-oh-oh?
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I've been there before
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I've been there before
For all the air that's in your lungs
For all the joy that is to come
For all the things that you're alive to feel
Just let the pain remind you hearts can heal
Oh, how were you to know? (How were you to know?)
Oh, how were you to know?
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I've been there before
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I've been there before

After getting better earphones I just realized that Hayley and Joy exchange harmoy and melody between choruses after the first and second verse. The final verse being a wonderful layering of them singing both at the same time. Love this song to bits.

If you also consider the fact that with each chorus?...they have their eyes fully closed, and they still both maintain the same gestures for the most part. Just shows you how immersed they are in their vocals. It was beautiful to hear. (and see)

I am physically disabled (in a wheelchair) and have been plagued by a pretty serious mental/emotional disability. I tried killing myself and I am so so so so so glad I didn't succeed. I met the woman I am meant to be with for the rest of my days..the pain I use to feel reminded me not only that my wounds could heal, but I can finally let myself feel happiness again.

No they don't. TyTy Horror Also, don't you think they would've just put the Joy/Hayley version on the original s/t if they had her in to do harmonies? She would also have to be credited on the track on the insert/album info if she was on the original track, which she isn't because she wasn't.

I don't understand why younger people are surprised when we (dads :) like songs like this. Being older doesn't mean we are clueless about the music, quite the opposite. :) It is not like we hate everything of nowadays by default, It just has to be this good to move us. Balads? I have loved them since Everly brothers or The Beatles. Harmonies? Add Beach boys, Mamas and the papas, Byrds, Eagles.... Lyrics? I don't even know where to start. Dylan maybe...It goes on and on. And the list is quite long and distinguished before we get to Paramore and Joy. Peace.

I think it's because of where Paramore started off as honestly try hard, commercialized punk / emo where everything was overly simplistic and " I'm edgy. " and very " one note " So they keep that " Emo band " start in their mind and remember that time period and having a dad for example be into their " emo band " ( even if they are past that era for some years now ) is surprising and a little odd because they have a way of looking at it than just a rock band. The back of their mind still sees them as " That band who was born from the emo phase. " Like if you were into another band, let's just say Florence + the Machine. You can't pigeon hole them in a box. No one sounds like them, they blend genres and are really versatile and artsy. They were doing things other people weren't. ( Other people in say Indie might do things that compliment their sound but, can't replicate it. ) So there is no " This is a ____ band for / targeted at ____ people. " ( Especially given they're inspired and make nods to Fleetwood Mac, Patti Smith, Kate Bush but still bring a lot of fresh youth and new take to classic art-rock. )

Hate To See Your Heart Break" There is not a single word in the whole world That could describe the hurt The dullest knife just sawing back and forth And ripping through the softest skin there ever was How were you to know? Oh, how were you to know? Guys, before you start bullshitting, you should get informed. Hayley is a big friend and fan of Joy, and, for the Deluxe version she decided WITH THE REST OF THE BAND that she would re record the vocals with Joy and put it into the Deluxe Edition of the album. Paramore is still a band, this is their first collab and it's awesome, I don't get why people give hate to this, this is a band trying to do their best for their fans, they make what they want, in the genre they want with who they want. EDIT: Some people said Taylor was the one inviting her, and yeah that's true, but Hayley already said she is real good friends with her! :P

This song always reminds me of my best friend. Our sophomore year of high school she dated a guy who said and did so many terrible things to her that she went from being someone who loved life and was super confident and happy to someone who was suicidal and thought she was worthless. It killed me to see how much this guy had broke her. Every time she cried, I cried with her. It broke my heart that I couldn't take the pain away from her. This song explains exactly how I felt during that time.

"Hate To See Your Heart Break" There is not a single word in the whole world That could describe the hurt The dullest knife just sawing back and forth And ripping through the softest skin there ever was How were you to know? Oh, how were you to know? And I, I hate to see your heart break I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close But I've been there before And I, I hate to see your heart break I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close But I've been there before Love happens all the time To people who aren't kind And heroes who are blind Expecting perfect scripted movie scenes Who wants an awkward silent mystery? How were you to know? Well, how were you to know-oh-oh? And I, I hate to see your heart break I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close But I've been there before And I, I hate to see your heart break I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close But I've been there before For all the air that's in your lungs For all the joy that is to come For all the things that you're alive to feel Just let the pain remind you hearts can heal Oh, how were you to know? (How were you to know?) Oh, how were you to know? And I, I hate to see your heart break I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close But I've been there before And I, I hate to see your heart break I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close But I've been there before

I didn't know Hayley Williams had such a pretty lower register O.O Wish I heard her sing like this more. Also, Joy Williams. I'm predisposed to feeling anything she sings is golden. And the lyrics! They are gorgeous.
