Paraglider Takeoff Kaleidoscope XXL #5

Спорт

This is just a simple compilation of more than 290 paraglider take offs performed in 2022 (and this time not a single hang glider ;)). Most of the paragliders are single-seated, but there are also several tandem paraglider take offs.
The mix of various launching techniques (forward launch, reverse launch) in diverse weather conditions and on different take off sites is simply interesting to watch, but hopefully can also contribute for paraglider pilots of any skill level to improve their own take off skills. Watch and reflect what is good and what could be done better. Especially for low-airtime pilots mental training (mental dry runs) can help to preserve or even improve their skills during the time they have no opportunity to fly.
Of course this is neither a tutorial nor could it replace professional training!
Although not all take off attempts are successful and some might look risky, thankfully nobody got injured, not even slightly.
There is no associated sound in this video. So turn on your favourite music and enjoy the show! ;)

Awesome Tom. I was an instructor at Massanutten and a coach at Bryce last century while at JMU. Never saw anyone para or hang the Shenandoah Valley until I found your channel and your flights over Luray. My last home in Va was Sperryville. Thank you! Inspired.

When I find the time for that, I'll definitely do it! Have a look at Kaleidoscope #1 kzread.info/dash/bejne/fWWHyrOGabPam7Q.html What do you think about the idea putting the locations in the subtitles, so anyone can decide to show or hide it?

Don't worry, in all of my videos thankfully nobody got injured, not even slightly. But you are right, here it looks quite harmful. Actually, where this guy "landed", he still had about 10m of relatively flat area, before the cliff falls severall 100m. He had a soft "landing" in the bush and was succesfull at his second takeoff attempt. Here he was lucky, but he could have had a succesfull takeoff at his first try. Arguably he is not very controlled when he accelerates, but he lifts off quite ok. Just after that, he gives a strong brake impuls at the left side, which drives him into the bush. Why does he do that? I think it is a very common reaction when someone feels the terrain close to one side. Its like he wants to support himself so he does not fall down. But with the brake line in the hand, it always make things much worse. Still its a very natural response, that one can overcome easily with some ground handling training.
