Paradise Golf in the Dominican | Adventures In Golf Season 4

Спорт

“I created 11 holes and God created seven.” - Pete Dye on his absolute dream of a golf course in the Dominican Republic.
Erik Anders Lang heads to play the Dye-designed masterpiece Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo Resort on this Adventures In Golf, presented by United.
Erik plays the course with local caddie J.J., who’s seen his fair share of good and bad golf over the years.
We loved his story about calling out U.S. President Bill Clinton about his putting stroke (6:55).
But what stuck with us was J.J.’s story at the end of the episode (9:00) about how golf changed his life forever.
Overall, this resort is seriously paradise and the cameras probably did no justice, which is saying something because some of the shots in this episode look ridiculous.

Always love to see the course where I grew up ! Loved the video too. However, I must tell you a couple of facts. The original name of the course was "Cajuiles", which means cashews in spanish. There were many of these short cashew trees all around the course. It was only the par 3 hole number 16 that had the name teeth of the dog. The name of the whole course was later changed to "Teeth of The Dog". Finally, it was Charlie Bluhdorn ( Gulf and Western Chairman) and Alvaro Carta (CEO of Central Romana) who brought Pete Dye to design the golf course. Mr Eduardo Lima at the time was an engineer for the sugar mill. He later became minority owner and CEO of Central Romana until he passed away. It is a magical place. I arrived at Dominican Republic drinking milk at the age of 10 and left drinking beer at he age of 18 ! No drinking age back then.... . I love the years that I spent there.

I have never left the country, I'm not a huge fan of traveling and to top it all off I am a bad golfer just starting out, but there is just something about this place that calls to me. Luckily I live near by in Florida so maybe it will happen someday! I hope I get to say hi to JJ.

Thanks Erik. I took my wife there for our honeymoon. Had her read Golf in the Kingdom. She got it. Had her hit balls on the driving range. After 3 days I decided I could take her out on the course. Paid the starter a nice fee to get us out by our selves with no one around. Get to the 5th hole par 3 which scares the shit out of most golfers. She gets up there with a driver and puts it on the green and gets a par! She shot 51 on the front nine. Unbelievable. We call it a day and stop and have a few cocktails at the bar you were at off the 9th green. I say, come on, I'll show you what this is really all about. Get back in the cart (with a couple of cocktails), head out to one of the tees on the water on the back nine. Take our shoes off and proceed to hit every ball in my bag into the ocean. Nice memory. And a great resort for sure.
