paperback to antique hardcover // book rebinding
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
vol. 1 - rebinding a paperback into a faux antique hardcover.
because i have a deep hatred for modern book covers, but i love to read modern books.... this is my solution.
eventually i would like to also show how to rebind with cloth or faux leather, as well as how to rebind hardcovers.
as always, i simply made these for myself and thought i might share the process.

notes i wanted to add: -if your paper is large enough to fold over the hardcover you might not need to paint (up to you). If it folds over on all sides then miter the corners so they fold neatly. -i dislike the painting step but it was the only solution i could come up with to fill all the white parts that printing could not cover. -you’ve gotta seal them when finished. if any water drops get on there it will bleed since its just printed paper. xx

Gold would look nice on the edges I think like instead of the blue.

Have you tried it with fabric for kind of an old clothbound look? I've been wanting to but I'm afraid I'll mess it up. I imagine that would be less likely to need paint or bleed, but it wouldn't have the antique titles etc., and I really like that about yours!

@@douae5857 exactly what I thought when saw her mixing paint to get the right shade.😅
I'm impressed that you never seem to get stuff all over your clothes when doing crafts
“my feathered friends” for six of crows worked out soooo well! that’s so cool!!
I suppose the other option you could have too, if you're graphic design inclined, is to design/create your own antique looking cover prints, with the correct titles. Then you don't need the extra labels on the books. Its a lot of work...but I mean if you're already going to the effort of recovering your books anyway (and have that design/art skill set) I figure why not! Love the aesthetic and relaxing vibe of the video btw.

graphic design major here and you just gave me major inspiration for a final thank you sm! ♡
I enjoy the aesthetic of the video but the blurry effect makes it difficult for me to focus, as I feel like it’s my own eyes Unfocusing
This is the most McKenna video in a long while! For some reason these DIY videos are always like tiny worlds of their own, they're probably the only DIY's I ever watch repeatedly even if I'm not crafting anything myself. Beautiful, beautiful!
I love this! Quick tip for anyone who wants to try book(re)binding: make sure the paper grain (of the replacement cover) is parallel to the spine, that way you'll prevent a lot of creasing and unevenness when folding and gluing the paper. I suggest looking up different ways to check the grain, there are quite a few easy techniques and it makes all the difference when binding books :) (the grain direction on A3 sheets is most often parallel to the shorter side - in this case, the spine - so if you're working with the same dimensions as mckenna, you should generally be fine)
It's like you in book form, with pretty aesthetic and then the genre inside a different vibe of fantasy and adventure other worldy! ❤🌙
Moment of silence for the amount of time this took to upload...
I haven't even watched this yet (I'm about to) but I've never been so excited by a notification in my life. This is exactly what I want to do with some of my books!
love this !!!! nothing is prettier than well-loved books
I just love her videos, they take you to another world and she puts so much effort into them. Can't wait for the next video 💙💙
The Howl's Moving Castle music is perfection
This is such a lovely, well-planned out, and creative DIY! I will definitely be doing this with the covers I don't fancy. Thank you for sharing! 🌸🌸🌸
It's been great seeing you grow. I hope to see many more great videos like that from you 💗
this is inspiring me to add a hardcover to my favourite books 🥺 i definitely don’t have the commitment to do all of them but i could definitely manage a couple favourites! i’ve made books before with fabric covers and it could be a cool idea to get the design you want printed on some fabric (you can get it custom printed!) to take it a step further. this has got so much inspiration flowing for me 💕
thank you so much for using our music
It looks so good 🤩 just like the real thing!! Great job✨
kenna is back to making me the happiest !! i send u all my love from switzerland, as always
Such a clever idea, so relaxing to watch, great video!
Lovely video!! I adore the lining paper with the birds, so beautiful!
I love the look of this! Not sure whether I'm actually going to try this since it appears to be a lot of work and I have a ton of books, but maybe one day when I have some spare time and want to push my library aesthetics to a max ♥ Thank you for uploading and inspiring me! + yes, I would love the other video ideas you mention in the infobox!
This is so creative omg can’t wait to do this to my whole bookshelf now😭😭😭
They turned out perfect 🖤 love classic, academic covers
I love this! Thanks so much for sharing! Now I want to do this to all my books.
These turned out beautiful. I've made a few sketchbooks but I've never tried to bind my paperbacks. Might try this.
So lovely! What a great idea!

The outside and the interior of the book cover you did look so beautiful.
so pretty and so happy you didn’t destroy old books-some people do and it is so heartbreaking. this was beautiful.
I love this, definitely going to refinish my favorites like this :)
This is amazing, you're so good at this! ❤️
You’re literally amazing to watch… and so beautiful and peaceful and everything good ♥️
these r so cute i love the colours
I love this. The most I’ve done to books is laminate them to preserve the paperbacks. I see you and think that’s so much work, but it is very pretty. I’m glad you took the time n effort for the video, I really enjoyed it.
this is such a cool idea!
Yay finally! Been waiting for this one❤️☺️

I loved your video! Please make more diy videos like this one! (Also loved the idea, especially to display mangas without shame)
Love this sm 👏👏👏 thank you !!!
This is literally so helpful and ur so gorgeous ily girly
love your videos ❤️❤️
such a good idea! i can only imagine how beautiful your shelves must be. if you're open to a few tips, i'd love to share my knowledge of bookbinding as well. namely, i'd recommend using a ph neutral glue (which will maintain its flexibility and won't yellow over time) and binders board as opposed to mounting board. binder's board is made in such a way that it is denser than most other materials at a similar thickness and so it resists warping better.
veryyyyy cute love it
I think we have the same taste, you always choose songs which I adore 🥺 I appreciate it!
I’m definitely gonna try it out
Oh wow, im really surprised that the glue stuck to the original paperback cover! I was told that you have to remove the original cpver or the blue won't properly stick. I'll have to do some experimenting
Great video,they look adorable
This is such a beautiful video and you are so stunning! Your music choices are magical and you always set a vibe that makes me forget reality and fall into a modern era where Victorian aesthetics are the norm. Well done, I look forward to your next video.

Beautiful. 🤎
I can't thank u enough for this vdo! I have been wanting to purchase the hardcover edition that collectora edition of six of crows duology but i just can't afford them... Like if I buy them I can't buy other books for like next few months... And i think I can just do this and make myself some unique books instead!!! This is amazing! Thanksss a lotttt! 💗💗💗💗💗
I have a question can i use the picture paper or like the paper for yk like those polaroids Or whatever idk what is it called... That thick paper? Maybe that won't leak as easily as normal paper right? Idk can we?
Hi! How do you know the printed antique paper cover will be big enough? Do you specifically find printed antique photos that will be big enough for the book in question? Or how do you do that? Thanks. :)
omg............... i forgot about this channel for so long
Love
I just have to say you look so incredibly beautiful here 💗
Thank you for uploading this DIY! The books turned out beautiful. I was kinda worried about the titles not being on there, but the tag was a brilliant idea. I cannot wait to attempt this myself! Where did you get the brush for the glue?
Really good idea I wish there were some way to preserve the original cover as the first page though. I also wonder if it’d be possible to photoshop the cover with the actual name of the book before printing.

you definitely could photoshop it if you’re confident enough with photoshop! not sure about preserving the original cover though, seems like it would be tricky
Sei davvero molto brava in campo artistico 💕
Love the aesthetic of the book covers , can you do a book collection,
This is so very clever 😊 I also need a hair tutorial please 🙏🏻 your hair looks so elegant pinned up ☺️
