Try dividing any metric measurement by 3 or 6, and you'll quickly understand why imperial measurements are superior. Fahrenheit is also more accurate than Celsius, without having to resort to fractions, because there are more degrees between freezing and boiling temperatures.

  • @oreosarevegan4257

Dorin Riki yes imperial system is based on base 12 while metric is base 10. sometimes i feel like base 12 is better because it has so many factors but we are just born with 10 fingers so base 10. i have to disagree for fahrenheit though, its based on brine, while celsius is based on water. 0 degree fahrenheit is the freezing point of brine while 0 degree celsius is the freezing point of water. same for 100 degrees and their boiling points

An additional benefit of the A-Series is, that you can easily calculate the weight of a stash of paper, as A0 is exactly 1m². So if you use 100g/m² paper, one sheet of A0 weighs 100 gramms. Then you can simply divide that by 2, untill you reach the A-format you want. A1 weighs 50g, A2 weighs 25g, A3 weighs 12.5g and one sheet of A4 weighs 6.25g. So if you want to know, what a stash of 100 sheets of A4 with 100g/m² weighs, you know it will be 625g in total, without even touching a scale or a piece of paper. Basically: Total Weight = (Paperthickness / 2^desired A-Number) x sheets of paper. Very useful, when you need to calculate weight for postage of paper products or how heavy a selfmade (note)book will be.

When i was a child, probably 6-7 years old there's only A5 notebooks for school. Then when i was about 9-10 there's 'adult book'. A notebook that 'can only be used' once you reach middle school. So every one who uses that kinda notebook is cool. The sizes are probably a bit smaller than B5. And for looseleaf, when i was a child it is not used as a note, but as a collectors item. We collect and traded colorful and full of character loose leaf pages. (Aah.. the good and silly times) And the only sizes are A5. And, there's that factor where you cannot use any other note taking media besides the ol' plain notebook so loose leaf is not a popolar note taking media. Not until i was in high school do loose leaf is becoming popular as a mean to take notes. But, not until i'm in college that the B5 sizes becoming popular and known, and being widely used besides A5 sizes, and you knoe what? I'M GRATEFUL there's B5 sizes. I LOVE IT. Now A5 sizes book/loose leaf seems to small for me :/

Me either. Until I graduated from junior high school, I used A5 binder. I often exchanged some of my loose leaf paper to my friend when I was elementary schooler, especially Harvest loose leaf paper with its zodiac or anything design. And since high school, I use B5 binder. And for notebook, I start using that 'Adult book' since junior high school. Guess we're from same country huh LOL

I am a frequent traveler, and I used to have different notebooks for different purposes, as suggested in the video (journal, on-the-go etc.) but eventually, I found that it is more pragmatic and time-saving to just have one-notebook-does-it-all... so now, I enter my thoughts, ideas, sketches, occasional to-do list** into an A6 notebook with a hard cover which I bring around with me nearly at all times... along with my favourite Zebra DelGuard pencil! Just sharing! **I use Google Calendar Reminders for my to-do list.

And F series for office and formal document, especially F4, because they need additional 2-3cm on top for office name/banner/identity...

I've made a little math and I think I've understood what's "behind" the B5 sizes. International B5 has sqrt(2) times the area of A5. Japanese B5 has 1.5 times the area A5. Another kind of B5 could also be having the linear dimensions like averages of A4 and A5. It would be a 179,25 × 253,5 mm and the world of paper sizes would be even more complicated =)

I live a fast and mobile life, and use relatively small personal bags to keep my stuff organized. I also have a pretty physical "blue-collar" job, but have need to take notes, and like journaling. I find that B6 and A5 are excellent sizes to keep on my person for these needs. B5s are more spacious for keeping in a drawer at the house or tossing into a backpack for a more intentional relocation, such as visiting family for the weekend. My favorites are Kokuyo Campus in A5 for journaling, and Maruman Mnemosyne 196A (B6) for work notes. The hard back and top-spiral of the Maruman notepads makes then excellent for taking notes on your feet, and then bringing those notes to a production meeting. This size fits nearly anywhere! The Kokuyos are a bit chunkier with more space in every direction for journaling and planning things out at either my computer desk or work desk. They also cost less! Honorable mention, Jetpens doesn't carry Muji B5s, but I've found them good for the aforementioned throwing them into your backpack. The ruling is nearly edge to edge, though the paper quality isn't quite as good as the above with some notable show-through on heavy marks or wet-running pens/inks. It's still very good and well behaved on fountain pens, and a superb value. It would make me happy if Jetpens were to carry these little notebooks.

  • @JetPens

    @JetPens

    4 жыл бұрын

Foolscap and quarto sizes still exist, but they're quite rare these days. We imagine these sizes began to disappear when international standard sizes (the A and B series) began to be used. Quarto is similar in size to A4, while foolscap's equivalent paper might be B4--these international sizes add extra length and aren't quite the same width-wise. Those might be good alternatives to foolscap and quarto paper!

Where ON the notebook itself is the size indicated? I have two KOKUYO Campus twin ring notebooks, according to my order form, one is A4 and the other is A5 -- I figured that out by looking at the measurements in the specifications. Yet clearly along the left margin of the cover AND along the bottom, there is a letter B followed.by the actual measurements. Do you SEE why this is confusing? I love the Campus twin ring notebooks, but I feel fortunate that I kept the packing slip (or that I could look up my account online). I am a newspaper editor, reporter and take a lot of notes at public meetings, while interviewing people for stories, etc., so the notebook's quality is very important to me. These are the best yet! This video was helpful, and it's cool to learn how the sizes work -- that fact that next number on the notebook means that it is half the size of the previous. I like that. I plan to order more Campus notebooks and I gotta tell you, your prices are better than Amazon. Keep up the good work... I like the videos very much, you have a nice way of showing what's new and what's what without sounding like a big canned sales pitch. You know how to do it right! "What do I have to do to send you home with a brand-new notebook today?" (That's a line from a car salesman) 🚙💸💸💸

Well, I live in Mexico and here exists some thing more strange.... For school notebooks we use "professional" size, ad for something little "French shape" and "Italian shape", for sheets, letter size, double letter and job. Now that I think... Is very different to the rest of the world.

  • @svennoren9047

That would be A2 and B2 respectively. The number denotes how many times the original paper has been halved. An A0 paper is one square meter in area. A B0 is larger, 1 by 1.414 meters. The trick is that B sizes are in between A sizes, measured by area. A B5 paper is in between an A4 and an A5, for example. This also means that a B4 sized envelope can hold a stack of A4 papers easily.

standard paper sizes, multiple measurements such as distances, height, weight, volume, speed, temperature ... If there is any standard that is used worldwide or nearly worldwide, it is usually not used by the US. You can pretty much count on it. They even write some numbers different in handwriting, although they use Indo-Arabic numerals. I'm really wondering why they drive their cars on the right side.

  • @Solitaire001

@@pianofry1138 Unlike many U.S. paper sizes, Legal was created for a specific reason. Law Offices needed to add extra length to U.S. letter-sized paper for seals. Due to this, they made legal size by adding 3 inches to the length of U.S. letter-sized paper, making it 8 1/2 inches by 14 inches. Those preparing legal documents would treat the paper like it was letter sized, leaving 3 inches at the bottom blank for later use.
