The following interview was conducted by Angela Clark for the ICCF. Angela has graciously shared the video to further educate the world on a breed she's wholeheartedly supports. Dr. Paolo Breber took an interest in the breed when it was brought to his attention in 1973 by Giovanni Bonnetti, who remembered the dogs from his childhood. In the following year, Breber acquired some of the dogs and began a breeding program, which garnered interest from others when the dogs were pictured in a magazine article. By 1996, the breed had achieved recognition by the Federation Cynologique Internationale.

Great to see somebody who actually cares about keeping dogs the way they were supposed to be. If we have learned anything is that the kennel clubs have ruined breeds. Nothing ruins good working lines faster than showing dogs and making the dog fit what society thinks is right.

My Father had a few old pictures taken early 60's of him with his maternal grandparent and their dogs. In the picture, he mounts on a male Neapolitan Mastiff, a female lay under a small tractor, and a male Cane Corso sits beside his grandmother. If I remember correctly both dogs were leaner than today's breeds. Especially Neapolitan Mastiff was less wrinkly.

because they "reconstructing" a breed that doesnt need it ! Mike Sottile brought the originals back in 70s or 80s . With low to no health problems like most working breeds. They are destroying the form and function of the breed . These dogs came out of the very same litters as neopolitan mastiff and presa canario. But bred in different directions . The but the neo still came out of the same litters as cane corso. Because they are the same dog . Just different genotype or phenotype. Until they separated the breed. The presa canario also has some neopolitan mastiff in lineage of the old style presa. All they have to do is breed and use them for a task other than walking a show ring.

@Keandre Flewlln they was still doing "reconstruction" around the time Mike Sittole was importing dogs ! Because Salahudeen Salaam had already proved and disproved alot of this stuff. How is somebody recreating a breed that was going extinct while someone else was importing said breed at the same time from the same region? If you watch Salaahudeen channel he paraphrased a interview with him and he said he was getting dogs in southern ital. But also said he couldnt find dogs in same interview . So which was it ?

Found the video very informative. I have been in some form or another in the dog world (horses, cats & exotics as well) for 50 + yrs. Stevie Wonder could see the gentleman's frustration about "his" breed. He's right about most of what he says. I have an (English) Bull Terrier that i adopted a couple of years ago. Back in the late 60's i bred them for show, so i am familiar with breed. Chico is purebred, not wellbred, but he is the best dog i ever had. He looks like the B.T's from the 20's to the 40's. So i can understand the gentleman's take on the breeding from the original to what i call "designer" types. All is being said & with respect to all breeders, no matter what side your on, please: DO NOT let this dog become to mainstream. WHY??. I life in the N.Y. area in which people walk around with there pit bulls ( pit bull in an umbrella term for " the real" breeds) & they are not particularly well trained. I would be afraid if these breed became too popular, it would be like Arnold Schwarzenegger on steroids walking around in hands of people who shouldn't have them. THAT always winds up with the dog being on the losing end. Anyway good luck with your breed.

Cane Corso and Neopolitan Mastiff were one and the same breed back in 1945. Everything else is total BS. Of course, back then they had "lighter" and "heavier" versions. They all had scissor bites. Out of those two strains, Cane Corso and Neo Mastiff were developed. If you look at the old standard written on the Neo (Scanziani ) it states and uses the names Cane Corso, Cane da Press, Mastino Napoletano interchangeably. If you look at Guaglione (First Neo Champion) he looks like a Cane Corso of today. Of course "show dog" idiots completely destroyed the Neo. Thankfully there are breeders that are trying to bring back the Neo to his original functionality. The same happened to the Corso through mixing Boxer blood in it and creating underbite and taking out the sharpness. Its interesting that Angela Clark in an other Dogumentary mentions that she prefers the Boxer Influence. QED

@@alfonsogonzalez5670 Again...two strains from the same dog... of course they differ now and have changed over time. and that is true for the Mastino/Corso and APBT/AmStaff. I mean look up an AmStaff Champion Pedigree from today and go beyond 1936 and you will see many are from pure gamebred stock like Colby/Armitage/Tudor lines. "standardizing" has created all sorts of problems mainly what is the flavour du jour in terms of looks by some "experts". The Italian Molosser was a working mastiff, agile, aggressive, protective with big prey drive. My wish would be that we go back where we started in order to create the best of both worlds. it is stunning how show dog people insist on the difference of origin of the italian molosser. Marino Cane Corso claims "some phony DNA" testing to prove the difference. Well lets to a proper sample of 10'000 Dogs from the southern Italy Region (not US) and i bet you would get completely different results. Any true italian Mastino/Cane Corso Lover in Italy knows this.... but again... the show dog crowd knows better than those that actually lived and worked with those working mastiffs all their live.. Ask about his understanding of other names used in small regions that are actually referring to the same beast. . As an example the Sicilian Branchiero or also Cursicieddu Siciliani among several other names. Ask about the most definite inclusions in the Cane Corso DNA, like perhaps Sicilian Brangliero or Pastore Siciliano or other. Ask about the dominant eye coloring if there may be. Does he agree with ear cropping and tail . TY

Yeah I'm sure she could grasp the concept of it if I tried to train her for that but I don't plan on doing that though. She's too short to be of much use for gaining any stability anyway. She never intentionally knocks ne down though. She just REALLY loves butt scratches and I'm super uncoordinated so sometimes I topple over when she dramatically throws her butt on me for scratches. I meant it as a joke cause it's pretty funny to think of me trying to use her as a stability dog.

Dogumentary TV has a video of a guy who appears to be Latino / Hispanic who says that he has the original lines that actually come from Italy. I would like to know what this guy thinks about that and whether those dogs actually are the originals that he is talking about. Also the guy purporting to be breeding the originals from back in Italy mentions names and lines and, I don't remember those names to call them here, but you can bet that's going to be the next video I listen to, again, for the fifth time, and pay better attention.

The Americans breed them bigger by adding more Great Dane into the mix that’s how the original dog which weighed around 110 - 120 lbs max suddenly adding a Great Dane and you get 140 - 150 lbs 👍

@Marino Cane Corso I haven’t sorry it’s more what I have heard from various dog people. Whatever the mix there is definitely a jump in size and weight. I would definitely go more with a mastiff type for sheer size any dog breed getting near 140 to 150 + has to be a huge dog mix.
