Pantera Featured on MTV News After Far Beyond Driven Goes to #1 (1994)

Музыка

Pantera are rather reluctantly featured on MTV news after their album "Far Beyond Driven" goes to number one on the Billboard charts in 1994. This feature is unfortunately tainted by accusations of racism, something that has followed Phil Anselmo around for years even to this day. Kurt Loder points out that Anselmo is wearing a shirt featuring the rolling 7s/triskelion logo, which used by such neo-nazis scumbags at the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging in South Africa, though in Anselmo's defense I think he just likes the band Carnivore (it's a Carnivore shirt).

Pantera has a very diverse fanbase. They're loved all over the world. Ask anyone whose gone to a show how they were treated in general.I'd bet my paycheck it was a good if not great experience.

Pantera was keeping metal relevant and elevating it while hair metal was dying.

Power Metal Prog Metal Black Death and Doom were all growing. Phil liked a lot of that stuff but much of their trailer trash fan base in the US were too dumb to get that stuff

@@themadmattster9647 Doom and Power were growing in the 80s? Always thought of those specifically as 80s genres, at least the most influential bands.

I was one of those fans who bought it on the first day and went to a record store signing. Funny looking back at this MTV hit piece on the band. They were mad that Pantera wasn’t one of their manufactured grunge bands full of bullshit hippie and feminist lyrics. The good old days…miss them.

Can I just ask a question? I just googled "triskele" to see what this racist symbol looks like, and compare it to Phil's Carnivore shirt. In every image, the "7"s all face in the same direction. Phil's shirt has one that goes the wrong way. Makes it look like a 3d box, rather than 3 interlocking sevens. I think people are reading too much into that. Am I wrong? Am I missing something?

You are not missing anything. Anselmo's been a while being sort of a supremacist snur. I love pantera. But even back in the day posing with the confederaate flag is a big controversy. No matter what souther people migh tellya. It has a dark past. And the shirt he portrays is the Afrikaner weerstandsbeweging or the southafrican Swastik which is the same actually. As far as i understan Peter steele wss a declarated white supremacist. I love Pantera but Those kinda things have tarnished my love for the band a bit

Phil strikes me as an insecure person who was picked on as a kid and then developed extreme beliefs based on those experiences. He started walking around with his chest puffed out, projecting a bad attitude and shouting random stuff, never to be exposed for his fear.
