Would love to see him do a quality adaptation of any H.P. Lovecraft story. A tremendous visual storyteller even at this stage of his career.

I don`t think the more vanilla Lovecraft stories would work with Cosmatos. I think all his vision and eccentricity would be wasted on stories that leave him little creative liberty, such as Color out of Space and Mountains of Madness. I think what would be really interesting is seeing what he could do with something like Celephaïs.
Just watched Mandy from this guy, he is a genious!

Great movie & judging from the music in the film he definitely has excellent taste, including Kylie! I'm going to have to watch the black rainbow now if its anything like Mandy.
I loved Beyond the Black Rainbow so much. I want so see more of his aesthetics, it's so inspirational.

@amoeba it was in fact great. Now we wait for 'Nekrokosm'
I just watched Mandy this dude is one of the greats right now.
I loved Beyond the Black Rainbow an irrational amount. I really hope Panos continues to make films. I'd love to see what else he turns his eye to. It would be heartbreaking if he was one of those guys with amazing talent who makes one incredible thing and is then blacklisted from Hollywood or something.

Loved this movie. The soundtrack alone was amazing.
Seriously down to earth guy.
As a person who's known this cat for about 20 years, and well aware of his taste in music, I can completely assure you he's not kidding.

The King Crimson opening scene set the bar for the entire film. What a remarkably perfect song to use for that. I'd love to smoke a joint and listen to early black sabbath w Panos and pick his brain
Who in the hell promoted BTBR? The movie should've pulled in loads of more $. WTF? That movie is an INSTANT classic. I love Black Rainbow

I absolutely loved Mandy and I’ve watched it way too many times so I was super excited when I found out about btbr. I watched it a couple weeks ago, I don’t get why anyone likes it. Nothing happens in the movie! They start to build up when Barry loses his mind but they do nothing with it!
I already love his filmography, but now I've learned that Panos Cosmatos is my spirit animal.
Bring him back for another episode. I wanna know more about his music taste
The new film is about as anticipated as anything in my lifetime
I have such a crush on Panos. Dying for Mandy to get a release date

Bumping this old comment, but he stated in some interview that he will make a film every 7 years, which seems to mean, he will release one every 7 years. 2011: BTBR, 2018: Mandy, and now 2025: Nekrokosm is up next, and he has vaguely mentioned the movie he wants to make after Nekrokosm as well. A long wait, but well worth it for the quality.
Carly Rae Jepsen is amazing!!!! I shamelessly love Dance Pop too. Love Beyond the Black Rainbow!!! Excited for Mandy!
Seriously obsessed with this movie. I watched it for the first time two weeks ago and it’s stuck with me since. It’s such an experience. I haven’t been able to find a film like it since. Love how funny and down-to-earth Panos is, too! He seems like a great guy.

This man is awesome. Great personality and makes beautiful, unique films. He has joined my list of favorite directors.
"And I think everyone in the audience agreed that RoboCop would make a great president, and I still think that." ==Greatest thing I've ever heard!
I love this incredible director, he is so inventive......
Raised by 80s cable television here. The same age as Panos so his list was awesome to watch. First stumbled on BtBR with my buddy Bob at a late showing at the quirky Grand Illusion Cinema in Seattle. Walked in blind. Right from the get-go I knew I was in good hands. We walked out discussing the movie and I swear my buddy might have jizzed his pants because he was ecstatic and wanted to go work on his cinematic aspirations because the movie motivated him by how good it was. I was more subdued but just as shocked by the quality of the movie I had just watched. Mandy is a masterpiece as well. Are they masterpieces like Ben Hur or Citizen Kane? Apples and oranges almost. In their own right they are masterpieces. The two greatest homages to 80s vhs schlock elevated to cinematic art. Tombstone rules too. And without Tombstone there’s no Beyond the Black Rainbow. Just had to nerd out for a sec…
mandy is amazing
Living in hope he'll come out with something as soon as is humanly possible. Although BtBR absolutely didn't receive the attention and praise it deserved (that it jives barely with a niche is beyond frustrating, because damn if it wasn't one hell of a totally immersive trip for me), surely that wasn't enough to put him off film-making? Was it perfect? No; every film is flawed in some way or other, and BtBR is no exception. But the guy's vision, and commitment to that vision (despite, I presume, full cognizance that it might be to the detriment of the film's appeal) has to be admired. There should be more film-makers like Panos Cosmatos, and more *from* Panos Cosmatos.

He has a new movie coming out this year called "Mandy" Here's the IMDb page for it: www.imdb.com/title/tt6998518/?ref_=rvi_tt
BTBR is funny, people usually either love it or hate it. I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen, I even watched it a few times, and I'm not really a re-watcher.
Yes. More filmmakers please!
Aw, he's adorable :)
Cosmatos is a genius. Go see beyond the black rainbow it s mesmerizing
I watched the same movies as a kid as Panos Cosmatos, it's strange but also very fitting.
this is one of my favorite pieces of media
I just saw Mandy and it’s now another one of my favorite movies....before that it was beyond the black rainbow. This guy really knows how to make the coolest movie possible. I can’t wait for what he comes up with next.😁👍
I love it that he says "boom box". I used to _have_ one of those! Actually I just bought one again that has dual MD recorders, CD player and completely useless radio as all the stations where I'm at have changed frequencies.
The trailer alone is jaw dropping. Its on NETFLIX. Check it out right now.
BTBR : one of the best movies I’ve seen in the last 10 years. I was totally BEWITCHED, my head remained in the film and in the music for over a month...Cosmatos is a genius
I can't believe how nice and normal Panos seems
I that dog scene stuck with me as a kid forever from the fly 2 craziest scene in movie I don’t know if it holds up but I remember liking the fly 2 as a kid. Silver bullet didn’t hold up for me but gave me even scarier werewolf nightmares as a kid and inspired me to write a book :)
I saw Black Rain on free to air TV very very late one night. Was worth it.
Great Clip! Love the Poltergeist and Motley Crue memories... I have many similar of my own. Also loved Beyond the Black Rainbow... waiting to see if there's ever going to be a soundtrack released for it.
I'm just happy to see someone who's not a music snob in one of these videos. :D
I'm scarred for life, from The Fly 2, just from what little I've seen here.
Incredible director. One of a kind.
His acid-horror style movies are breathtaking god bless him🎉
Black Rain is on Blu-ray?! Hell yeah, I'm buying it! Very underrated. To Panos Cosmatos: Beyond the Black Rainbow is so amazing, it's in my All-time Top 5.
BTBR is awesome!! Looking forward to seeing Mandy
Beyond the Black Rainbow blew my mind
Such a great Director!
This movie is just pure gold. Why no one ever even remembers when it came out is beyond me.
Gotta be honest, didn’t expect him to be so personable. Lol
Panos Cosmatos is a brilliant artist!
Ooooooh... that's why I like your films...
A director with the name Panos is so perfect.
He seems like a cool dude and beyond the black rainbow blew me away :)
I love Panos. I really love him.
He needs to make another movie.Black Rainbow was fantastic!
Listening too an AbbA cassette in a Bush, Priceless
@Panos , your father made one of my fav : The Mission (1985)
His movies are metal as fuck but he loves pop music, treasure him.
You are awesome.
pls people support this guy....he needs to make more movies... i mean BTBR and MANDY both are classics...change your taste
It seems Dustin from Hawkins had grown up and now are shooting really stranger movies
Beyond the Black Rainbow was awesome!
love him
Oh man, ya'lls should bring him back, see what his influences are now.
PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. People . . . Give Panos money, time, financial & creative support to continue producing and filming whatever projects he desires. We need his cinematic vision to continue to become realized & manifested into reality. Genre. Majikal Realism/Non-realism. Sci-fi. Horror. Romance. Surrealism. Action. Etc. Etc. Etc. Textured grit & a physicality with heft and gravity are the elements which are so often lacking in modern genre filmmaking but seem to be what Panos Cosmatos is concerned with, thankfully. He is also truly awful at & incapable of the watered down, limp-pricked pandering which far too many commercial audiences seem to be fine with, even satisfied by, but his talents have so far not allowed him to excel in that department . . . and again we have noticed and are very appreciative and thankful that he has not succumbed to these popular trends. Keep going my man! "The Viewing" truly gave me a rare experience of awakening or triggering a nostalgia for a future memory sense . . . . then only moments later Eric Andre's character mentions this exact same sensation. That is truly a "WTF? You Are In My Head" moment and very satisfying! Thankyou.
I love these director video's always interested to know what they pick and why.
Nice 80s High Five at the end.
LEGEND
Hope your next movie comes out before the world ends brother.
Genious 🖤🖤
Best picks ever

Would love to know his thoughts on his dads movies. Some great 80s and early 90s output.

Likeable guy.. No pretense at all. Gonna watch Mandy soon. We grew up liking the same shit. From Basket Case to Black Rain!
i didn't know Panos likes Kylie but i'm glad he does 😌

Love Panos Cosmatos. Love Carly Rae Jepsen.
I was expecting him to be a Wizard.

Great tastes and not trying to be pretentious which you usually see in these types of vids
