Probably my favourite MCN review in a long time, thanks Michael. I've read a lot about the Panigale V4 but this is the first time I've understood some of the nuances, such as the feel of the initial power delivery in lower revs or comparing it briefly to the RCV and noting that it is first and foremost a road bike, but an exceptional one. Thank you.

I really wish there were more videos (in general) about the Honda. It's been a year and I still feel like there's no accurate description of what this bike is like, which modes do what, how it is in daily use (a lot of inconsistent reviews) is it smooth, does it feel better on road or track, etc. You did at Least mention brakes lightness, and 39 mpg (guessing that's average) just wish someone would finally do an ACCURATE in depth well informed review of the Honda. (Don't get me started on how long it took to start getting decent reviews on the NSX)

What a great test! I really appreciate that you also took the 1299 into comparison. Owning a 1299 Panigale I recently drove the new V4. And it feels exactly like stated in this test: You really don't notice how bloody fast the new bike really is. But at the end of the ride I was exhausted because of the pure speed and acceleration whereas the 1299 feels demanding right from the start. I must admit that still haven't decided whether I should switch to the V4. Unfortunately I can't afford to have them both 🙁

It does seem rather obvious if you think about it. For years manufacturers kept pushing the technology to squeeze an extra 2hp out of the same engine blocks year after year, and often have done it at the sacrifice of the midrange that people actually use on the road. The 4 cylinder superbikes now rev to 14k+ and are just as peaky as the supersports when people mostly used to buy liter bikes because they didn't like the extremely revvy engines and preferred more torque. What's wrong with just making a bigger engine?

I love Hondas. Had cbr600, I wanted new Blade so bad, I was really hyped, seemed like a perfect bike for me. Then I tested it... It's so tiny it is ridiculous! I am a tall rider, I finally bought a used 1199 Panigale which is like a touring bike when comparing with the Blade! It's ridiculous! We do use these bikes to go on short trips and even commute as well. It may sound strange but for me Panigale with comfort seat is like a touring bike in comparison to the CBR!!

The 2020 Fireblade, with the obligatory 2 or 3 kg weight saving and 10-15hp gain will dominate things again with its trademark smoothness, lightness and agility. This underpowered 2017MY still beats pretty much all its competitors! Plus, judging by the brand's past record it will be reliable (Ducati, Aprilia and BMW probably not so much).

Fantastic video! Seems Ducati really did their homework! I just tested the RSV4 RF last week and for me it just felt heavy and too “big”. (176 cm in height ..) The engine, built quality and everything is definitely second to none but compared to a Japanese it doesn’t feel that trust giving and easy to play with. Best

There is no doubt the V4S is smooth and powerful, but some of us like the sound and feel of the V Twin, with it’s terrible city manners, it’s more fun to ride and try to tame. It spits and snarls, and you need to feather the clutch...and it takes more motorcycling skill to ride properly. I had a 2016 Aprilia V4 and it just never got me excited to ride. But when I go to the garage and fire up the Twin, it makes me smile just like my GT350 does when I hit the start button.

I just finished a carbon 1299 build so I've been riding that bike for half a year and after jumping on the V4S every part just feels improved and more refined. And it does just grow on you the more you ride it the more you love it. Can't wait to see the proper group test later this year!

Very surprised the RSV4 brakes faded ? I've had 3 RSV4's and currently have a 2017 and the brakes are excellent (including on track fast group) I am 5'9 and the RSV4 is the most comfortable sports bike for me - just goes to show personal preference & ergonomics makes a massive difference, I rode the Blade last year and hated it ! But the new Ducati is epic, it really is special no denying. BUT, with all their differences & individual traits the Blade, RSV4 and new Ducati were all within a second a lap - whichever you feel most comfortable on will be the best for you.

I ran the stock Brembo pads until they wore out then switched for SBS-RS now on EBC GP-FAX. Pads tend to last me around 1000 miles maximum mixed track & road use - I swap fluid out every year so recently flushed through with RBF660 but I ran the stock fluid for the first 12 months. They are the same Brembo setup Ducati etc. use and the ABS is switchable on the RSV4 unlike the Blade or R1 etc. which are terrible on track. Nobody ever faults the RSV4 Brakes, unless the pads were worn out ?

You were complaining about the bricks but if you change the pads are going to get a different feel for the brakes . They virtually all use the same break calipers right ?

Ive just brought a 2018/19 RSV4 RR and i honestly don’t know what you’re saying when you say the Aprilia is a little heavy as that’s the first thing that struck me about the bike is just how light it is!!

How come you don't add the MV Agusta F4 RC in that round of bikes to see what it do? Or just do a review on MV Agusta F4?

I was out of the saddle for the longeest time of my life: 4 years. During that time i would occasionally look at the Aprilia RSV4. By the time i finally pulled the trigger and went to purchase, i sadly found absolutely NO Aprilia dealers near me anymore. Both had closed down(dropped Aprilia). I read more on this and found that this is a nationwide thing in the US now. So, i opted for the bike i had also been very curious to drive: The new Yamaha R1. If i would've been willing to drop 25k i would've no doubt went with the Panagale. I spent 10k less and, while i know it's not close to the feeling of a V4, the crossplane engine IS something i suggest anyone to experience. It's entirely different than any other inline 4 i have ever ridden. Pretty happy with it, still wish Aprilia would have more of a dealership foothold in the midwest though.

I could tell he likes the honda. Lol *stares intently at calipers. Honda needs to release a race spec unlock for the wheelie control and abs. The v4s is phenomenal I see someone finally got it to wheelie before the crank pulls it down. Amazing bike!

I have both 17 Aprilia Tuono V4 and the new Panigale V4. Both are incredible in their own. I prefer Tuono for the street and Pani for the track. Pani is just way to fast for the street use to be in its sweet spot, while Tuono has torque and engine feel perfectly suited for the street

As an rsv4 owner I don’t understand how you say it’s uncomfortable for a tall rider. I’m 6’1” and I can barely get both of my feet on the ground at a stop. It’s never felt cramped for me. Maybe the pegs are a bit higher for ground clearance as I’ve seen from other reviews people are dragging toes all over the track on the panigale

The tft screen on the Honda is perfect, its not to small at all, they were trying to save weight, so why would they add weight with a huge screen? Trust me people everytime i ride my SP2 I never think the screen needs to be bigger. All i can think about is how wickedly fast the bike is and how incredible it feels at any speed!! The Honda is legit in every area!!!
