The Cole Plastic Man stuff is still amazing cartooning. I have had the DC Archive volumes for years, but they recolored them and lost some of that old magic in the process. There's a company in the US that prints original scan volumes, that include all the old funk. They're reprinted Police Comics and Plastic Man in multiple softcovers and a few hardcovers. Also, Jack Cole ghosted on The Spirit for a while, so some of those similar ideas in The Spirit may have been him, although I don't have the exact details on what he drew. A great list as usual, Earl! I'm going to have to get that new Bess Franky volume and the Junji version is one of the few of his I never bought.

I have that Plastic Man book designed by Chip Kidd in which he feasts on the old coloring, yeah, it's a nice contrast to the archives. Cole ghosting on Spirit is interesting, didn't know that. And you should get Ito's Frankie.

There's only one English Nestor Burma out from Fantagraphics, alas! At least they are continuing with the Tardi list.. Great to have another episode!

I've looked for Delphine since your first(?) video about Sala... really tried my patience that one, but finally I got it for a nice enough price.

Ah, Alita, I've tried reading that manga so many times. Never finished even the first volume. Just not my style. But I should probably try it again, don't think I've tried reading it this decade. Who knows, my tastes might have changed.

Hi! Casterman has just announced a new Burma's album by Tardi himself. The story is going to take place in the 20th district. Thank you for this series of videos! One always discovers something new in them :)

Hi Earl! What would You Say are your top 10 comics storywise? If we are talking an intricate, intelligent, tragic plot comparable to say a thrilling cinema experience, so no stuff that is too much life-based, artsy or entiry comical. It's almost always the whole package that make comics great but sometimes when I am in for a perfect narrative, I feel every art form is potentially suited. I couldn't think of that many here though in all honesty so I would love to know from you !

oh, that's one of these comments that are almost impossible to answer here, but I did a panellogy about my favourite comic writers (panellogy 503) which maybe gives you some hints about the kind of stories I like the most.

Battle Angel Alita interested me as manga originally. Then I saw the movie and I felt it was quite bland. Since then I haven´t even thought about this series. Funny how that works even knowing that these movies rarely match the original comic book content. Have you seen the movie, and if so how would you compare them?

No, I haven't seen the movie... and quite frankly I doubt that it will excite me. What excites me about Alita is definitely the art. Unfortunately I've not shown the best pages to give you a real feeling for the art... there are some pages and sequences which blow my mind.

Speaking of Nestor Burma, you may have heard about the recent passing of French actor Guy Marchand ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Marchand ), Burma's French TV incarnation from 1991 to 2003.

I searched for Tardi's opinion about Guy Marchand interpretation and vice versa, but could not find one. Not mentioning Léo Malet. Still, thanks to Marchand, the character left a deep trace in French pop culture kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqWJssqmm7bMp7Q.html
