"cruel to be kin", the fourth collection of shaolin cowboy was published recently by darkhorse... a great opportunity to quickly celebrate the whole series!

You can see Darrow following closely in the footsteps of his hero, Moebius. All about the art, and absolutely zero care for the writing. Comics are a visual medium so we don't care, but it will always be like a man missing a leg when artists forever think like this.

disagree about Moebius here, his writing for an example in "the airtight garage" follows just other paths... it's a play to undermine expectations ... and yes, that's a bit similar to Shaolin Cowboy - at least Shemp Buffet, while "cruel to be kin"'s narration is almost back to familiar ways of story-telling.

These are great comics. Glad to see a new video, I was worried I would need to learn to speak German for more Earl/Orl Grey.

no, I'll definitely will continue as Earl, but the stuff I do on "Örls Waschmaschine" has been a bit demanding the last couple of weeks.

@@earlgrey862 I understand. You mentioned comics aren't as big over there so building up a community is important. I have watched a couple of them but the translation can get a bit off.

Really enjoyed "Who'll Stop the Reign?" during the Trump term 2020-2021. Trumpers threatening to dethrone the nazis as our human species' ultimate villains immortalised forever in comic! Geof Darrow, you son of a gun lol!

…and I just got me the Shemp Buffet. Haven’t read it yet though by a quick glance it’ll be more looking than reading. This video was perfectly timed. I was planning to get more info about this series. Good thing you mentioned that fake history bit. I tried to read it in comic book store to figure out which book is #1. Couldn’t see a thing and wondered why anyone would print these tiny letters. 😅

the new one has "shemp buffet-ish" sequences as well, for an example a killing spree through a room filled with nazis - which felt strangely satisfying :/ - but it's balanced out very well with a nice, absurd, in all its absurdity depressingly real story

@@earlgrey862 it's not just a matter of laughing at something but one of getting the reference. Some people will not get the reference, the problem is when you get that it's a reference but don't know to what. If that happens then whatever it is you're reading, viewing or listening to ends up leaving you frustrated. It's the main reason you don't put present day politics in a work of art indiferent of when present day is. Not unless a work is meant to be political, and those works tend to not have a long shelf life since they're inherently propaganda and people tend to distance themselves from that.
