Hello. I really enjoyed your video. When I was a kid (I’m 60 now) some of these Bernard Prince/Barney Jordan/Djin stories were published in Spanish back in my home country Chile. These stories are part of my most fond memories but I actually lost track of what they were because I was very young. They were published in small segments on a weekly kid’s magazine called Mampato alongside all sort of other interesting stuff for kids back in the late 60s and early 70s. Needless to say I got quite emotional when I saw the images in your video. Any idea on how or where I could acquire some of these stories? I now live in Brazil but travel a lot to other countries on business trips. Thanks for any info.

thanks for your comment, but I‘m afraid I can’t help you… nbm, cinebook, fantagraphics and magnetic press are usually the first publishers to check out for translated euro comics.

I just read Station 16 and it was okay, I am very curious about his other works though. Possibly a bigger book where the characters are fleshed out a bit more. Great video!

I've bought Station 16 recently, but haven't read it yet... but yeah, so far the oneshots are a bit hit and miss for me as well. In some of them Hermann (or his son Yves Huppen, who wrote a lot of the stories) works too much with cliches without adding too much. Vandisandi is a bit the opposite: A quite original story that knots a lot of different threads in many directions... maybe too many, because most of the plot lines aren't concluded - even though that was obviously intented to leave the main character in an atmosphere of anonymous threat...

Yes I completely agrees with you on one-shots they can very much be a hit or miss situation. I believe with Station 16 that it lacked proper fleshing out with characters or plot. I believe this may have been a fault of the son translating perhaps. On one note, I love how you pointed out his tendency to illustrate characters in a 3-d type of way show as to show them varying positions when viewing the panel.

yes, he uses some uncommon perspectives sometimes... Esp. in his western "Comanche" he uses often views from above to connect happenings on balconies (from a saloon or such) with the action on the dusty street - these perspectives are as typical for his art as his way to draw faces.

I'm looking forward to more Hermann videos. Dark Horse put out his Jeremiah series and a few others here in the US and I really like his stuff.

Maybe my favorite series from him is "the towers of Bois-Maury" even though I have to re-read it since it's been a while... but his realistic take on things works really well in eliminating false romanticisms attached to the medieval times.

Since Hermann wrote French in the original it wouldn't make sense for both of us to buy an English translation instead of the German one. And the German editions are ubiquitious, just look at a comic shop or a railstation-"Kiosk".. I like those new hardcovers, the Jeremiah-editions not so much, because their downsized, but it's ok. As to "Bois- Maury" (In German: Die Türme von Bos-Maury, (also nicht Bois)): there is a nice hardcover edition out, I am blanking on the publisher though.

Hi I got a question for you, I read part of an andy Morgan Comic where there was a chase going on in a City ( I think maybe in Paris and I think there was a motorbike in it ) and they ended up underground in the sewage system having a fight , any idea what Title I'm talking about ...I'm still trying to finish reading the story more then 40 n years later LOL. I think you're talking about "objectif cormoran", it was the original album #12 of Bernhard Prince... on the title you'll find either a guy playing billard or two men on a motorbike in front of an exploding boat.

I've read third one (cover with bats) -, I believe that that Mongol guy was called Cubac or something like that - excellent comic book with great twist at the end. Edit: I've read it some 20+ years ago as kid, and I remember it very vividly even today - so really great comic.

I drink 4 of those Rock Star Sour Apples a day.
