Pancakes & Bacon Breakfast Gouache Sketching Demo

Hello Art-Family,
If you follow my instagram and other stuff you'll see that I've been pretty well clobbered with comics work. Posting may be a little less frequent for the next 6 months as I'm under some pretty high pressure deadlines. Hope you enjoy the video. This was a fun sketch. Thank you all the new subscribers and thank you for all the kind and encouraging comments I've received. It's been such a joy so far to chat with people on here. I've learned so much from talking to people and especially from trying to put into words my process and thoughts while I'm painting a picture. Thanks for the constant inspiration and I look forward to meeting more people through these.
If you like this demo or others and would be interested in buying the original I do sell there here. jaredlovestodraw.bigcartel.com/
Contact me ahead of time, though, to make sure what you like is available.
Happy sketching,
Jared

Excellent! I only this year started doing more broad brush value studies and its a ton of fun. This is great and I need to break out my gouache more often. But dang! now I'm just hungry!

Janabstra thanks for watching. That means a lots :) it actually helps ME a ton to have to try to put it into words. A lot of it is instinctual but since doing workshops and these videos I feel more confident in my decisions because I have to say why.

Elf Lords Journeys haha thanks! Awesome! It helped me, getting started, to do gouache over transparent for a while. Watercolor is my main choice of paint but I love gouache. I dipped m my toe in it to improve my watercolor and got sucked in. :)

Another great painting! I have to heap on some more praise simply because you so often choose food as your subject matter. As I have talked with pro photographers, I’ve learned that food photography is incredibly difficult. It’s a huge challenge to make food look enticing and appetizing. So often, a cooked meal (if not prepared by a food stylist) doesn’t look great in a photo. You have deftly risen to the challenge, and not merely made a good painting, but made a yummy looking one. My hat is off to you once again.

I love to see someone paint breakfast, yes its a meal but families also have a time together to get the day started. Steve Mitchell recently did an video on the Crescent board. Believe it or not we make a good GF and egg free pancake. If you dont tell most people don’t notice it. The only thing we have to have at our house is blueberries.. Sorry I got lost there. Thanks for the lesson on value adjustment. Oh no I will probably dream about breakfast.

haha i think I saw that video. Crescent board is great. It takes gouache better than any other surface I've tried. I love it. Plus it's sturdy and feels good working on. Agreed! That's great! I tried making a pancake like that... It had like banana in it but it was a total disaster haha I have just used the same Buttermilk recipe from "joy of cooking" forever. Those are the best. My son always wants fruit in his pancakes but then he won't eat it for some reason haha He likes them separate but asks some cooked in any way. I never mind helping him with the clean up, though ;)

Hi Jared. Awesome vids. Do you use fresh gouache everytime or just re-wet dried gouache. I love using fresh gouache and creating a creamy consistency. I've had issues getting that creamines with dried gouache. Thanks

Kevin Lee hi! I try to use fresh when I can but I have a box of dried I will pour into if I’m doing a bunch of gouache over a few days. Fresh is better- for exactly that reason. :)
