Thanks so much Mr. 12volvids! It's the same or very similar tape mechanics for this models: SA-PM21, SA-PM17, SA-PM27, SA-PM07 Note: to adjust tape speed. The screw (volume motor) is on the back side of the motor.

Smashing, he will be happy to see it working again :-D I really like the multi tray cd player, i've never seen that design before, novel :-). I've used some 1000 grade paper on shiney pinch rollers, but there were a few that i had to replace due to hardness. I could have done with rubber renew all those years back lol.

Such a helpful video; i have a similar situation with this model (actually the PM17,but almost the same thing) whereby the cassette mechanism engages, then halts and returns to it's disengaged position. Occasionally it will work and play the tape continuously with no problem, but i can't figure out what is causing it to behave one way or the other. Regardless, this video was a huge help in understanding how to take it apart and the way everything works together. I'll keep plugging away at it..... Thanks!

Nice repair, I can still get pinch rollers complete, but very often end up fitting the new rubber to the unit's original plastic or brass boss. That Panasonic mechanism I've seen as both unidirectional and autoreverse, you can see where the parts'd be for auto rev on the SA PM 27. You're so right about isopropyl, it's good for heads, but not so good for rubber. I end up using a normal kitchen cleaner for rubber parts, but very often, I've to fit new bits !

You can also use an exacto knife to scrape hard residue off. I normally do this when the roller is spinning (when it wants to spin anyway or you can help to spin it anyway). I also use this method with old curved surface pinch rollers to get it flat again. Benefits of this is that you scrape it off evenly. This avoids roller dancing and shear of the tape. To soften the surface (when needed) I use organic oil, no chemicals required because it is a natural material. Works great. Sandpaper can be used after this, only apply it when the roller can spin. 'Scrape' evenly. Use this only when you cannot buy a new one. Result can be amazing when doing right.

Yes those of us old enough to remember her know that. It wasn't a ham sandwich it was a heart attack in her sleep, likely triggered by obstructive sleep apnea. Many people have this condition and do not know it. Snoring is the first clue that someone may have OSA. When the throat closes off, breathing stops for sometimes up to a minute, and finally when blood oxygen drops dangerously low, the brain goes into survival mode and wakes the person up and they start breathing again. This process repeats throughout the night. This is very hard on the heart, and is a major cause of heart attacks while sleeping. I know a few people with this condition. One is a co-worker that was tired all the time. He want and got tested and sure enough had OSA and now sleeps with a CPAP mask that keeps his airway open at night. When working in customers homes I see the equipment all the time, so this is quite a widespread problem.

I have a Sony, no cassette player. 3 disk CD changer. (Bought 2008) It has an aux input. What sucks about it is it isn't very loud compared to the Tuner. Some CD'S are louder than others. So I need something to boost the gain. I can't do anything except to the aux input. I actually use my computer's sound card to boost the volume. I know, not the best thing, but it works. I need a booster/equalizer unit. Can you boost the volume within the unit, or is it fixed? Mine has a cooling fan too. It comes on at higher volume. (How do I know? I put my hand behind it and can feel the air flow) BTW, I like that Panasonic you fixed. ;)

No but I had an experience with booking.com billing my credit card for a no show despite I showed up at the motel, late because I got lost finding the way. The idiot at the desk tried to call my cell, and because I had no coverage in the mountains left a message that if I hadn't checked in by the cut off my room would be rented and me charged. I got there, full. Had to find a much more expensive place 500 for 1 night in Las Vegas, and then a month later the bill came in for the reserved room that they let go, and I had to fight those morons at booking.com for a refund. No satisfaction there, I had to escalate it to my credit card company, and it took 4 months to clear up, meanwhile I had to pay, or they would have charged me an arm and leg in interest. Will ever use one of those booking sites again. Never. I might use it to find a place, and then I will phone the motel / hotel directly, and book directly with them. All these sites are a scam.

Changed out the transformer, syncronus motor and starter moter but it wouldn't start. Figured out why, and got it to start and play a few some notes. It is a work in progress. Jenny Bunny Too bad so sad. When I see my stats and fine that overall 60% of viewers block ads, the only way I make money from these videos us the ads and the 30 or so patreon supporters and another handful of PayPal supporters. With over 31000 subscribers the numbers should be a lot higher than they are. Since the majority of viewers are here to find a solution or learn troubleshooting the least they can do is let make a few $ but that is too much to ask. So basically since that is the attitude of many viewers my attitude is I don't really give a shit anymore. This was a paid repair and recording it was a bonus. When it is below 0 I am not about to freeze, so the heat goes on. If my audio is a little hot or low. Too bad. When the stats improve then I will put more effort into production but when a video earns me barely nothing due to people blocking ads and using every excuse, and some even comment about it like they are bragging. Well I'll respond and give you videos not as polished as they could be if I was more inspired to spend more time doing them.

12voltvids I am really disappointed about your comment. I really enjoy your videos and the content. I noticed that you are really grumpy all the time but that's just how you are. You might have experienced shit in life, I don't know and don't judge. But this attitude is not really helping anyone. The main reason for AdBlocker are unbearable advertisements that are really loud, bulky and annoying. Although google has this "I know what's best for you"-AI everyone gets adverts about stuff they do not like in the slightest. The second big reason is advertisement clouds are notorious for delivering malware. For example in my case, I use my main PC for work cause I like the big keyboard and the big screen and also the power this thing has compared to a laptop from my company. So I have to secure and harden my system as much as possible (there is no 100% security). The reason why not everyone subscribes your Patreon or donates to your PapalMe is that salaries fall like from the roof and expenses rise into the space. Money has almost no worth anymore. Also people's happiness is going down hill and therefore the willingness to purchase stuff falls. Hell, I am a Nerd around here and people literally asking me to compile PC parts for a gaming PC for under EUR 150... Which is impossible. I keep telling them to go and by used gaming consoles instead but there the games are too expensive. I pay EUR 0.30 per KW/h for electricity PLUS EUR 85 base fee. Germany is the country with the most expensive electricity in the WORLD. So after my expenses to keep me alive, electricity, rent I am not left with much and I spend this for my own happiness. Personally I am not asking for much. I have no problem with clipping audio. Just try to prevent from having too much dynamic in your audio, so I mean parts that are too loud. You can easily equalize it on editing. If I would be able to produce interesting content for KZread, I would just do it for fun and to share happiness and knowledge, not for extra money. It's like your employer granting you bonus for special tasks and achievements. You don't expect this every quarter because this is not for granted. You should consider the money from YT and Patreon the same as a bonus, not as salary. If I need extra money, I go and get a second job on weekends...

I don't block ads on KZread. I would also pay via paypal/patreon if I had the money. Being a college student with a min-wage job, I don't have much spare money. When money permits I will, as I do appreciate your videos. You need to forget about the haters and people that don't want to support you. There are plenty of people on here that support what you do and I see regulars, me being one. I normally don't thumb up or down videos as I forget and never got into the habit of it. But I'll try from now on thumbing up your videos as it is something I like. As far as the audio, I don't mind hearing the furnance, as an audiophile yeah it's a little annoying but completely understandable. What she and everyone else is mainly talking about is the voice over in the intro, what audio you edit in during editing, the mic is either too close or the gain too high. I assume you do this voice over at your computer when your editing.

Kyôdai Ken First of all I am not grumpy. I may come across that way when I respond to asshole comments like yours but I am probably the easiest going guy you could meet. Second I don't do this for money. I don't "need" the money. I have a high paying unionized job with full benefits and a pension. That has nothing to do with wanting to make some extra cash on the yt channel, which incidentally is used to pay for the operation of the channel. As to patreon I see what other that run similar channels make on patreon and they with a similar number of subscribers are making 4000 to 5000 a month doing very similar videos. I am around 50 a month. The bit about malware makes me laugh. Google doesn't send malware and if you think that is the case, we'll you can't fix stupid. You can whiteilist KZread as I have done that blocks ads from other sites and let's the youtube videos I watch earn money from the add. So since I don't make what I should be making from these videos I am not putting any extra effort. I am not going to polish the audio, or run it through a processor, of do anything other than cut it together and throw it out there. Since nobody else seems to care about them why should I. If you knew how much work it was to do this, I started keeping track of the hours I put into producing the videos, and maintaining the channel including answering questions. I took all the hours and divided it by the monthly payment plus any paypal donations. It worked out to 3.20 per hour. Would you be grumpy at 3.20 per hour, and then have to listen to people whine and bitch about every little thing. "There is a fan running, I hear a CRT buzzing it hurts my ears, someone started a lawnmower, theirs a dog barking, child crying ect. Bunch of bloody babies out there is you ask me.

There is an awful amount of noise on the video. Hardly worth watching

James Grant Too bad so sad. You are lucky I film these repairs at all. Considering that over 60% block ads and the only way I make money is from the ads, viewers don't seem to care so why should I give a shit about the furnace noise. It is winter here, snow on the ground and it is freezing.

I don't know, only the intro was a bit loud but the rest is just proper ventilating of a workspace area. Health is much more important than audio quality. But if you like you can solder without carbon filtered fans but professionals don't do that.

He thinks you need ventilation from the solder fumes. Us techs could care less, you just want heat, LOL, Bring on the lead, and rosin fumes.
