Panasonic Lumix S1R user experience review

In this video I'm reviewing the Panasonic Lumix S1R full frame mirrorless camera based on about one week of use. I have photographed street, portraits and other subjects.
My name is Matti Sulanto, I'm a Lumix photographer based in Helsinki Finland. I'll publish a new video every Tuesday and Friday.

Congratulations! I am in awe of your amazing ability to deliver such a great review in your second language. I tried a Lumix G9 but was disappointed with the amount of noise and poor dynamic range in the type of landscape photography I do. You helped me decide about the S1 and am going to buy one tomorrow. Thanks again.

Can the s1r do 10-bit 422 and vlog like the s1 ? How's the 1.1x crop effect the video quality vs the s1r in terms of noise?

I haven't compared the S1R and S1, so can't say about the noise, but I understand that the S1 is much better video camera. No, V-log on the S1R. You can find all the specs on Panasonic website.

Thanks! I'm glad you think the camera isn't too big or heavy. I'm coming from Canon 5DIV. What grip is that?

It's of course my opinion, but I don't think it's too big, if you are used to 5D. Do you mean the strap? My daughter made it for me😀

sulantoblog I'm used to Canon 5D. I don't mind the size but care more about the features. I really like the long shutter handheld photos you show. That open so many possibilities when you can't bring a tripod. It's amazing you can shoot 2 seconds hand held. How do you like the eyeAF?

So far I think the eye AF works well, but I've had the camera for less than two weeks, so I haven't tried every possible situation😀

Hi Matti, Is there anyway that you could test S1R's 65:24 and 2:1 aspecr ratios and show how they look on camera screen? I haven't found a single post or a video about them on the internet.

Right now I don't have the S1R, but I should get it anytime soon. What exactly is it that you want know? Just how it looks on the screen?

Hi again! Just wanted to let you know that I bought the S1 + 24-105 lens! 65:24 mode is awesome and thanks to high res VF it's looking good even the view crops out ofc! If the VF would've been something like 2M res it would not look good ^^; Handling is awesome, battery is ok, AF is something you can survive with, so much features to play with and the video is good looking even with the basic codecs and after the upcoming update I feel that the S1/R will be really awesome companion.

Has only pathetic overpriced slow beginner lenses @ F4.0. Well, just the normal flooded 50mm lenses is good. ATG AF Assist Beam with supported TTL will not work It is best just to buy the S1r than get the pre-order/pre-paid for ATG Gold adapter with Contax, Hasselblad, Rolleiflex or Mamiya lenses.
