Awesome Camera, I've had mine since 2006 when it came in to the market. I've have many cameras but always go back to the L1. The only problem I have is I need a new battery and no one sells them anymore in Canada, thanks for the video

Thanks all photos were taken with the Minolta MD 35mm f2.8 & the 28mm F3.5

I just picked up the Leica version of this camera (Digilux 3) and I was wondering if you had any recommendations with using film or third party lenses with this? I am trying to find adapters or some primes for this camera, but I am lost to where I can find lenses for this body. I do have the 14-50 f2.8-3.5 :)

I bought an L1 a couple of months ago and pair it with n OM Zuiko 50mm F1.8 and Sigma Super Wide II 24mm F2.8. I'm thinking about acquiring the 14-50mm Leica D Vario Elmarit that originally was sold with the L1 and which I think accounted for the hefty original selling price. Of course, sellers sell the body and the lens separately, but I feel like they are destined to be together, as intended. I find the L1 a great experience to use when compared with all the bells and whistles of my X-T2. Great video!

Thanks for watching! It's a big ol' lens the Leica...I have a few Olympus AF lenses but there's something really nice using the legacy glass. Using the L1 is like stripping it all down and back to pure photography. No distractions! Love your music btw!

Nice, is the screen bigger and better than the Oly E300? Is it also a CCD sensor? I am also shooting Oly -Lumix cameras.

The screen is bigger and better than the E300 (E300's screen is pretty awful) its not great though. Playback and zooming will look blurry for example. The L1 is a MOS sensor camera (made by Matsushita Panasonic) but still has that unique colour science of the period.

Thanks for your informative video. I recently purchased the L1 and wanted to use manual focus Nikkor lenses with the appropriate adapter, unfortunately the shutter doesn't fire when the lens and adapter are fitted, is there a setting on the camera that enables me to use manual lenses, ? the camera works perfectly when used with AF four thirds lenses

Hi! Go to menu>C>No release without lens and switch to "off" Happy shooting! Also you are unable to see a confirmation dot you may need to update the firmware. Thanks for watching!

Nice photos and informative review. I bought a L1 "again". I think the best lens goes with L1 is Olympus Zuiko Digital 25mm 1:2.8 Pancake 4/3 lens. This combo is brilliant.

Thank you for this review. I must appologise that after your review. I did not follow your advice as to whether or not to buy one........I have just bought one. Boxed. As new. Camera only has 168 shutter actuations. Powered up only 39 times. Flash has fired just 16 times. Mine came with the Leica 14-50mm. I think I paid a good price. I am very happy. Just need a couple of lens adapters for some of my old glass. I'll remember your advice about slightly under exposing to protect the highlights. Similiar really to the older CCD sensors found in the Olympus 4/3rd cameras that I own.

@@irresponsiblepictures7451 Thank you. I have an MD to 4/3rds adapter. I have it on a Elicar 28mm f/2.8 MD mount lens. Can't get the green focus light to show not matter what I do. Shoot without lens enabled. MF selected on ficus lever (PS tried when in AFS mode - no different). Half press shutter whilst turning focus ring (equally tried when not half pressing shutter button). Lens is focusing, but no green focus light. What am I doing wrong? Any tips?

@Forthejoyofphotography hmm no idea looking at the menus. Both mine did it when I got them. The green dot is very slow sensitive so maybe turning slowly? Try stopping down and see if anything shows. Shallow dot is tricky to nail it. If not then it could be something deactivated. I'm presuming all other options display in the viewfinder.

@@andymarc8632 I turned the zoom ring as slow and minimal as possible, multiple times. No show of green dot. Tried every aperture again no joy. There does not appear to be any menu options related to this to change other than “shoot without lens”. Waiting for couple other adapters to arrive. One for Pentax to 4/3rds, another for M42 to 4/3rds. So will have to see how they behave on L1.

Can you use micro four thirds lenses (like the panasonic 20mm pancake) on this camera? or does it require an adapter?

Hi unfortunately not. Only four thirds (not m43) will work on this camera.

Nice video but do not forget the crop factor of two. 28 mm becomes a 56 mm lens. No longer a wide angel lens.

Indeed! Been using micro four thirds so used to dealing with the crop.

What are the chances that an M mount lens can be adapted for manual focus?

The shutter sound sounds like a camera as opposed to those coming from those traditional DSLRs that sound like a car crash

If I dun cut the Minolta MD lens aperture pin will damage the camera? Cos I still use the MD lens on my Minolta X700 camera.

It will mount on a funny angle and mounting it more correct requires you to snip the pins or it will catch on the mirror. My lenses still work on my x300 even with the pins snipped down.

I just bought an L1 and I have an issue....I cannot see the setting in the optical view finder(exposure and shutter speed) , what do you think the issue might be?

It works with all four thirds lenses including Oly's. Not sure about the flashes?

Many years ago I bought an L1 for $500. In my opinion the kit lens alone is worth twice that amount. Thereafter I bought another one new for $250. Then I bought a third body for $150. As a discreet street camera they are superb. Image quality is stunning despite the resolution. I still use them for my eBay business doing product photos. Every now and then I still take out for street images. I love them and Panasonic should reintroduce that design mirrorless with an APS-C sensor. It would stomp Fuji hands down.

Agree or even a up to date Micro four thirds one would be great. Still have mine and will keep it for as long as it lives. Really a gem.

I bought mine used so no manual, how do I set the Func 1 button? It's greyed out in the menus.

had one when it first came out. It was well made and lovely to look at. But it was not a great camera. Too many compromises for a high end M4/3. 2006 was a long time ago in digital camera years.

You can always get another! ;-)

He makes no mention of the sensor's 2x crop factor which effectively alters every lens he uses. For example the 35mm wide angle lens becomes a low end longer focal length of 70mm, while his 28mm lens is really a 56mm lens effectively. This surely constricts the L1 in many of his scenes. Also now in 2023 legacy lens to L1 adapters are difficult find for a four-thirds camera mount. And also there are very few indeed native four-thirds single focal length lenses around. (The L1 is most definitely NOT a micro4/3rds camera, and M43 lenses will not fit)

Yeah he doesn't! Maybe you should make a video covering those points. Not sure why you think I state its M43rd (though sensor size is the same). Fully aware of 2x crop...never stops me using legacy glass on it. I use legacy on 43rds,M43rd,APSC & Full frame. I focus on enjoying taking pictures. As for adapters. Just as hard to find as L1's and its best lenses. Thanks for your input.

Alas even fleaBay sellers confuse 4/3rds. with M43, and so I always ask a seller to confirm which. Sometimes they don't even know there is a difference. So I've ordered from a U.S. seller a "four-thirds" Minolta adapter for my L1, without being positive about what I will receive. At least it will fit my G9, if not the L1.

My other difficulty is that if one wants a wide-angle effect with a legacy lens on the L1, it is awful difficult/expensive to get anything under 24mm = 48mm. Even a 20mm lens still means 40mm effective.

For me I wanted something digital that matches the minolta glass I have but also recently moved back to film so got a minolta slr to get the most of them. Crop is a pain.

Ahhh I am but a small channel so I don't think there will be much impact. Most are currently on the Olympus e300 and Fuji train right now!
