As a PLD main since 2.0 (without other class in my account), this IS a very DECENT video. You make me love playing PLD even more! Thank you for making this. ❤️ And holy moly, that 10k dps on E1S!

One thing I would change in ur rotation is make sure to get both Intervenes inside ur FoF window since they are physical. Also for Passage wait until right before cast. The effect last 5 sec after you stop ur wings...so just throw it up real quick and go back to ur rotation

I knew most of the details for the rotation but that focus on ping and skill speed vs fight or flight really helped me realise why it kept falling off just before I got to finish goring blade before requiescat

Bro FFXI music is so good.

This tank is my favorite one so far. I only have gotten this and warrior up to 80 but I just love the glamor you can come up with as the job as well as the playstyle. These videos certainly are great in telling me that I am going in the right direction, though the title is slightly misleading. I don't think a beginner is gonna know what requiescat is lol, or what many of these skills are.

I am somehow new to this game and somehow learned something here

a quick Tip, you can and should make use of 'Arms Lengh' as a mitigation tool as well in big dungeon pulls. but make sure not to use it with 'Hollowed Ground' or during a WHMs 'Holy' spam (wait for 3 Holys) 16:52 as soon as i saw Zenos i knew exactly whats gonna happen xD

Just a quick note. I can tell you as a WAR main that PLD is not even close to the easiest tank or job in the game. WAR literally only needs to press eight unique attack skills.

I thinks it's more towards pld being easier to pick up and learn tanking because its "safer" in terms. But yeah as a war brother war has a lot easier rotation

I keep SK at 2.42 with 100 ms ping in order to make sure I can fit 11 GCD in FoF. This is a common recommendation on TheBalance discord as well.

As soon as I heard it I got the deep feels! Most memorable song in FFXI for me. PLD was my main, and now in FFXIV as well.... in short.... fucking great video mate!

Great video, although 1 piece I must point out as a pld main is that you should not double weave circle of scorn and spirits within. It will cause clipping and if you do that all the time you'll end up losing gcds. Excellent video with solid info.

One time while I was running the level 77 dungeon, at the final boss the healer of the group died to the first mechanic. I decided to focus on regenerating my MP and healing the remainder of the party. We did not wipe! Clemency OP!

Was thinking, you dont need a guide for pld. Then remembered a pld who blew hollowed ground at start of boss fight then died during tankbuster plus add phase.

People say Paladin's are some what easy to learn but I can't seem to wrap my head around any of the tank classes

iv found gunbreaker a lot easier than paladin but im finding paladin a lot more rewarding

Always liked to play Paladin because of Sword&Board but didn't play for a while. In fact I'm still stuck somewhere in Heavensward-Story. :D Is it like it was from ARR to Heavensward, that I have do complete the Story-Quests before I can join the new Content? :)

What was the song at the beginning? It sounds so familiar, but I cant quite put my finger on it

For gear, until all content has been cleared, item level is kind. Weapon damage, main stats explode everything else powerlevel wise. I would still recommend trying to have more than 2K crit if able because it's more fun this way. I'm currently at 2900 crit with an unfinished gear and it's fun.

Hover over one of your GCD abilities and it will tell you the recast time in seconds. You can review stat tiering here: theoryjerks.akhmorning.com/stats/speed/ You basically want to apply the minimum amount of SKS to get to your target GCD. Here are some minimums. Anything above these that does not get you to the next tier is a waste (but often some overage is unavoidable). 2.46 = 710 SKS 2.45 = 812 SKS 2.44 = 914 SKS 2.43 = 1015 SKS 2.42 = 1117 SKS 2.41 = 1218 SKS 2.40 = 1320 SKS 2.39 = 1421 SKS 2.38 = 1523 SKS etc. Often I find that a piece of gear with a substat that gets you to a target GCD is better for DPS than melding SKS (but this happens). After all, one materia slot dedicated to SKS is one that can't be allocated for CRIT, DH, DET, and even sometimes a materia VII of TEN if you min/max pentamelded gear.

More damage ends fights faster which helps you make enrage timers. Same reason why healer dps is highly encouraged.

Yes, and no. Like most things in this game, it's down to optimization. If you're using it for basic room wide aoes that your healers should be healing through anyways you're hurting your contribution towards the dps of the group. It's best to save it for very hard hitting abilities that target the group, or even better during the transition phase when the boss is doing their ultimate and you cant attack.

@@DeltaSniper413 no problem, tanking in ffxiv is a bit different than other mmo's, you're essentially a dps class that can take some hits. In higher end content you usually have both the tanks dealing 1-1.5 the damage of an average dps class together, which is quite a bit. Best advice I can give is participate in as many raids and trials as you can, the more you learn from encounters will help you with bettering your rotations as well as when it is/isn't worth protecting your team.

This is not a beginning guide. Beginners guide is level one. The openers you speak off are later lvl .

Does anyone know of another source to learn how to play Paladin, dumbed down to say.. a level of absolute beginner? I've been playing this game for a few months but this is just way way over my head with technicalities and terms, and it goes by too fast.

Hey! Just started playing FF14 in the past few weeks. Question about Sheltron. I read that if the enemy is queuing up a tank buster and you sheltron mid cast, you will not discount the damage received, you have to use it prior to the buster. Is this true ?

When it is used mid cast, it works, but due to server ticks, be swift when the cast bar pops up

You should be very difficult for most bosses/mobs to kill. The catch is that casting clemency means not casting Holy Spirit/Circle. So unlike the others, you cannot heal and deal damage at the same time, although your healing is much stronger because you can spam it. As for cooldowns, PLD’s self mitigation is the weakest of the tanks, but they are the kings of party mitigation

The sword and shield is a crafted item, level 60, sword/shield of the round or something like that, can find it in market.

Why do you refer to all jobs as “he”? Is that how you refer to them in your native language? Just curious. Especially since your character is female lol.

Yeah exactly. Because the jobs article in german is "he" (Der Paladin) Got used to "it" the last year and will use the proper spelling more

GCD, SKS, iLvL, FoF, W-Damage, savage gear...what part of this is a beginners guide? You literally go straight into level 80 rotations in a BEGINNERS GUIDE. You really need to google the word "beginner" and start rethinking how you structure your videos, because for a beginner this is overwhelming and requires google to be open in another tab so I can search all these acronyms and abilities you so casually expect beginners to understand.

there is too much uneccesary video spam in the beginning, i almost gave up watching and missed the guide, as i was bored and about to give up before deciding to try fast forwarding . as for the guide itself, i found it very unhelpful as a beginner.. i found that you speak too quickly and dont explain enough about what the skills do. i hope you realize this is an opinion from a new player trying to learn tanking and not meant as a harsh or rude criticism.

"Rant on" the way you talk about losing DPS = losing every single fight in any game ever. chill man, they are tanks #1 goal is to mitigate dmg then do it. @@danielkotulski4785 I was trying to help you out so you didn't look like a fool. You have no idea how substats work or what they do, learn it, learn the math, then you'll see why I said what I did. The Balance tends to be correct, thebalanceffxiv.com/ start reading. For instance, you state that DH is bad at low values. DH actually gets worse as you add more of it, when you have low amounts of DH, adding DH is worth more. Think of it like this, every 60 DH (roughly) is worth 1% DH rate. A DH is worth +25% damage. so if you have 0 DH, +1% DH is worth +0.25% damage. If you have 30% DH already, adding 1% DH is devalued by 30%, because it can only proc on the 70% of hits that don't already DH, making that new 1% DH only worth 70% of 0.25% damage, or 0.175% damage. For the same +60 DH.

Figure it out, the closed captions are in German because he is German, and so are some of his viewers. For a true beginner like you it's just giving you an idea of the job, some flavour. It's more for people fresh to max level.
