You may try to take a tradewind rider or stalking stones but your opponent would just bounce it back to their hand with a capsize. Many opponents really didn't even have creatures period like high tide, academy, necro control or draw go (unless you count their stalking stones). You almost never saw anything larger than the drake itself.

My brother brewed these commanders and found Key to the City is a pretty good card. Having that unblockable on a card you can get off of Pako that also lets you cycle is powerful. And you draw enough cards off of Pako that you don't care as much about the discard.

  • @garrettswinney4126

Pako and Haldan is my favorite deck I’ve made! Song of creation is insane in the deck because you don’t care about the discard clause with all the cards you have fetched. I’m also playing tidal barracuda which lets me play spells at instant speed and protects my turn. I’m running 9 different counterspells to protect my board. Obviously anything that lets you play more lands is awesome, you could probably make a lands deck with them. P/H are super versatile value engines that are really fun to play. Thanks Josh and Jimmy for the video and spreading the word on this awesome deck!

This was my thought process as well. Build the deck around Pako, an aggro commander damage kill your opponent type of deck. Then have just a few spells like swarm intelligence to swap over to a late game value your opponents out due to all the resources you gained from Palo, and they wasted dealing with him.

So glad to see this deck. These were the C20 commanders that most interested me, and a lot of the options that you offered were great. Had quite a bit of fun brewing Haldan and Pako... ... I bought the precon and I edited it quite a bit with my existing collection, so the deck's pathways are part proliferate, part copying (with Kalamax and other cards), and part top of the library business. Other cards for top of the library business? Riverwise Augur, Conch Horn, and Dream Cache are pretty good, and I was fortunate to find a Portent, Time Ebb, Run Aground, and Memory Lapse in my collection. Reclaim is a great instant for a single green to put a card from your bin on top of your library. Tahngarth's Glare was such a dumb card for the longest time, now the card is dumb and awesome in my Haldan-Pako brew. With Kalamax and other copying support, my opponent's spells are much more effective. Temur Charm, Barrage of Boulders, Cosmotronic Wave, and Lure are some unblockable goodies, and if I could find the room, I could try Bellowing Tanglewurm, Nemesis Mask, Taunting Elf, Noble Quarry, and Prized Unicorn. Sometimes you just have to end the game, so I'm glad I found Relentless Assault in my collection. Temur Battle Rage, Raking Claws, and Wrecking Ogre are good for some unexpected double strike goodness. I have a bit of protection in the form of equipment, enchantments, creatures, nope spells, and some of the very spells which make the deck go. Once the pandemic finally not only gets a vaccine, but also gets under reasonable control, I'm totally up for some musical chairs, though I'm the only one who's going to be leaving my seat.

I'm late to the party on this episode, but I just built a $150 version of Pako and Haldan, and let me just say I have never had so much fun playing commander before. These guys are a blast to play and it is really good at matching the power level of any playgroup you play with. I find that running a ton of ramp spells and can trips in your deck (leap/shadow rift/slip through space/preordain/etc) keep your hand full and also can help give Pako evasion which is really useful.

I like a lot of the ideas in this deck. I wonder if adding a few more cards to make Pako unblockable would be worth it since you already have the Herald of Secret Streams. I was thinking Aqueous Form (Aura with Unblockable + scry 1 on attack) or Whispersilk Cloak (Equipment with Shroud + Unblockable) since these are also budget.

these are the commanders I been waiting for, though I was hoping for a singular commander, I'm going to make this work. Nice work, it would be cool if you did an unrestricted deckbuild. Also you know what would be really cool? If EDHREC put below the cards you searched other cards that do the same things or almost similar things as the the car you looked up. It would make deckbuilding research on their site much easier. Maybe Tapout should do it to help deckbuilders there.

How about adding Chakram Slinger and Chakram Retriever to the deck for flavor? They would fetch each other, thinning your deck a bit and all the spells you cast through the game will trigger Chakram Retiever's ability frequently.

Hey Jimmi, hey Josh👋🏼 maybe, because it’s not possible to record Game Knights right now, you could play some relaxed rounds of duel commander. Because of the lower action ingame, due to the 1v1 situation, there are less animations and „interviews“ to do.

Consider the Processors from Battle for Zendikar, especially Void Attendant or Oracle of Dust. The ability to retrieve your opponent's cards from exile is a great bargaining chip. It'll almost make them forget you exiled those cards in the first place...

I was building mine today, nice timing ! Here are some cards that I added in mine (for fun, mostly) : - Precognition (your artefacts seem to do this trick better but I don't own a copy of them) gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/details.aspx?multiverseid=4717 - Ether Well gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=3336 - Ransack : gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=21069 - Portent (I prefered it over Brainstorm) : gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=451052 For the rest, I went for a hybrid "card draws for everyone"/"self-mill" sub-theme which doesn't specially goes well with these partners but that's just a deck for fun. The only thing I would possibly add to yours are ways to protect Pako a little more. Something like Dolmen Gate or Whispersilk Cloak. Probably outside of the budget, however.

I might be wrong here, but Haldan clearly states "You may play noncreature cards from exile with fetch counters on them if you exiled them". They emphasised cast trigger synergies between on-board effects and Haldan's ability a number of times, but isn't there a crucial difference between "playing a card" and "casting a card"? Really Fun Tech! "Steal your stuff in moderation", might not ruffle feathers as much as "steal all your stuff". Keeping and updating multiple decks can still be quite expensive.

To play a card you cast it. However the word Play is used here so you can play the lands you exile with Pako. You cannot cast lands, which is why I’m assuming the card is written this way. - jimmy

What I love about pako and haldan is there are many different ways to build this deck. Vultron with equipment and/or auras. Super friends. Spell slinger. Mr. Steal your stuff.

I think I'd might make a cycling deck with it or run cards that manipulate the top of my deck. In mitches words I enjoy relying on my own cards rather than my opponents. Another ways to protect pakko and go voltron
