Dharma is Righteousness, Religions are various institutions. Freedom is the objective and disciplines are the ways of unwinding of barriers within & without.

That is the reason Hindu dharm is very tolerant. It is universal. Vasudeva Kutumvakam or the whole world is one family.. Now religion creates divisions as you have to follow certain rules..

There is nothing compulsory that makes you a sanatani or non-sanatani. You can be a muslim sanatani etc.

As Hindus follow Sanatsn religion, it's named generally as Hindu Dharm.

Every Hindu on the earth worships God, either daily or weekly when fasting or on any festival or rituals such as Diwali, Durga Puja etc or marriage, baby birth , death in your family etc etc. Can you find a single Hindu in Pakistan who doesn't worship God.

Religion also means science. People have wrongly taken religion to means faith - " I believe." Look up the word religion in the dictionary. under religion the dictionary says, " recognition of superhuman control or power, and especially of a personal God entitled to obedience, and effecting such recognition with the proper mental attitude." Religion means learning how to obey the supreme controller. so, you may be Christian and I may be Hindu; it doesn't matter. we must both accept that there is a supreme controller, Everyone has to accept that; that is real religion.

Few other things differentiate religion and Dharma- Religion is started by some a person. Religion follows a Book! Like Quran or Bible. The follower of the "Religion" bring the "message of God" to non-followers and ask to "join" the religion. This is called Conversion! Some religion do not allow reverse the conversion. Once joined the group can not leave. Dharma has no one founder, no one Book, no concept of "conversion". A person can be member of some "religion" but can be also allowed to follow Dharma. Duel citizenship is allowed. One more thing- Hindu Dharma has concept of re-birth and "Karma". If person does good or bad things (called Karma) , next birth according to Karma gets reward or punishment. Ultimate liberation stops cycle of re-birth and soul reaches Moksha (liberation) !!
