    Thank you, Joe, for your warm words. I appreciate it, really. This is the reason why I use oil colours. The most realistic face. My opinion - oil colours are better for skin and leather because the surface stays semigloss. We don´t have matt face and the leather is not matt as well... ;o)

    Great tutorial Milan. Some questions if you don't mind. Are you working wet in wet without thinning the oils in the initial stages of painting? I see you thin the paint near the end to create washes or glazes. Are the first stages fully dry when your adding these washes. Your blending is incredibly smooth, you don't have problems with the oil paint building up as you add more and more? I was glued to the computer for the whole hour and 50mins. I can now add more tricks to the tool chest... like adding blue to the mix. I usually add Paynes Grey but will incorporate some blue now as well.

    I have no idea how you can do these really small ones. I am having trouble on the eyes of 1:6 so I will watch and learn as much as I can from you. It's funny but we in the doll customisation scene don't usually need to mix the base flesh toned and we tend to use many layers of chalk pastel sealed between each layer as the colours stop gaining opacity. I am intrigued by people who do these really small figures because unlike a lot of doll customisers I collect action figures too and this is where I stumbled across the huge world of figure painting. I think you guys have a lot to teach us and maybe some of our techniques would be interesting to you but you should really look at the masters of this field for instance Xanthii's channel as she is amazing and is world's beyond mere mortals like myself who just dabble for my own collection. It seems that there are two parallel but separate worlds and I would love to see some of you perhaps do our stuff and maybe someone like Xanthii or Dollightful maybe do some of the figures you specialise in. I mention those two specifically because neither seem to limit or pigeonhole themselves as only a doll face up artist and both have done some interesting and varied work. I think it would be amazing to see a cross over of artist in this manner just for fun. Anyhow I am sure you are very busy so I will be off and watch more of your fabulous work! I am intrigued to see that you don't use a base like MrSuperClear to prime and seal the work in between layers. Does the paintwork last well after or does it chip easily? It's fascinating. I wouldn't know where to start with an airbrush anyway but some customisers use them a lot. It seems to be almost the same technique of building multiple layers of colours to achieve natural looking skin texture and colouration except you do things slightly differently. I think your mixing the flesh tones is really helpful. I know the basics of colour but I can also see that mixing all your light and dark tones from the same initial mix is going to ensure that the colours harmonise really well, unlike using different colours like we do with pastels. I really think I might just try this even though our subjects are usually flesh toned anyway, it would be interesting to see how it came out. I have got a couple of heads that I simply can't colour match to bodies and I think I will try this out on one just to see if I can overcome this problem. I know you can use pastels to change the colour of faces and bodies but I am really interested to try this out. I have used this technique to mix my own foundation makeup so I understand it well. I will let you know how it goes. Omg it turned into a book length comment...sorry!

    Many thanks Milan for this tutorial. I am finding the use of acrylics difficult and was thinking of using oils and this has given me the confidence to try! A question if I may, do you clean the brushes between each application of paint, especially the flat brush? Thanks once again.

  • @milandufek8151

    @milandufek8151

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thank you very much, Geraint. I am glad you like my videos. Yes, I always clean the flat brush but only in paper tissue. It is necessary. When you clean the flat brush in a brush cleaner, the brush stays wet (even you use paper tissue). There still stay a little bit cleaner inside the brush and this can "destroy" the oil surface you have already painted. Sometimes I use two or three flat brushes. Especially when I paint bright colours. I always clean and sometimes change the round brush as well when I change colour tone...I mean shadows and lights.

    Hi! You are a Master! I have so many questions, but these two are the most pressing: 1) It does not seem that you first put the paint on paper/card board to soak up the oil, as other painters suggest. Am I correct in saying that you use the paint straight from the tube, just thinned with quick-drying thinners? 2) Do you use artist grade oils? I have student grade oil paints, would you suggest I rather switch to artist grade oils?

  • @milandufek8151

    @milandufek8151

    Hello, thank you very much. I'm glad you like my work. I use the oils straight from the tube. I have had them for a long time. However, with some new tubes, I have to squeeze the oil out on paper first and suck out the preservative oil. It depends on the colour when it is new or hardly used. Yes, I use artist's oils. I don't know how good the student oil paints are. It is mainly about the power of the pigment in the tube. There are companies that have only one type of vehicle paint. I started with these myself and I still use them today.

    I have a question. When you are applying the shadow colors (oils). Do you clean off the flat blending brush on a paper towel between each use, so you don't load paint onto that brush over time? And are you using the thinner at this stage when applying with the small brush? I'm learning a great deal from watching you. In future videos can you explain a little of anything you are doing out of view of the camera. "Cleaning off the brush", "using a small amount of thinner to the brush before getting paint from the palette" little details like that are very valuable to know. Love your work!

    Thank you very much. I am glad you like my videos. Yes, the flat brush for smoothness ough to be clean. I usually use a paper towel. I sometimes change brushes. The thinner is like water for acrylic colour. Do you need an opaque colour? No thinner. Do you need filters? Use thinner. It is about what you want to do with colour. I have new videos on my channel where you can see my hands, palette, figures and thinner as well. For cleaning brushes, I use AK thinner or Whitespirit. I am going to create a new video about painting the face and eyes. There will be visible everything.
