    Alright obviously one of the best Banshee builds on youtube in my opinion one question, when you use that buffing wheel what type of stone do you put on it before you go in on the bumper

  • @MichaelSabo

    @MichaelSabo

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the great compliment! :) That buffing compound came from my grandfathers I'm pretty sure. It's been around for like 50-60 years. I'm pretty sure it's just a regular green buffing stone though. If you search "green buffing compound" on google, you will find it.

  • @MichaelSabo

    @MichaelSabo

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hey man; the blue is a metallic paint from rustoleum; nothing special! But it has a great finish and holds up well. I use aircraft grade stripper to remove paint from plastics, here is a video I made on it... kzread.info/dash/bejne/oXuh082ufdneesY.html

    Very nice. That plastic turned out amazing I like the sparkle hint to it. How do you like the maier fenders? I heard their fit and finish wasn't too good and you had to drill out all the mounting holes. True? I have been wanting new fenders for my bike, I have oem White that I race cut and kicking myself every ride for cutting them. Would like a full set. I also had center mount Cpi silencers at one point, so my tool storage area is also all cut out. Anyway good job man keep the videos coming, I like watching your progress

  • @MichaelSabo

    @MichaelSabo

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks man! I'm happy with the way they came out too. I noticed that the Maier fenders and a little smaller than the OEM ones and the finish isn't as "perfect" I guess, as the OEM. They're perfectly fine though; at least the fronts are. I will have to see when the rears finally come in. Race cut fenders are a pain; Idk how people ride with them if they're on the trails. I had race cut on my LT250r and I used to get covered in mud almost instantly lol

    400 grit is the best to use when painting plastics, just a little tip because if u look closely at the plastics after u painted them u can barely see the scratches that 80 grit paper did to them

    Plus make sure you clean it thoroughly with a safe degreaser or alcohol BEFORE you sand so you don’t seal oils from hand prints in unless you use gloves before and during. Best prep for no scratching or bubbles

    The finished product looks good, and I like the color and flake... but it would have done you a world of good to use 240 or something around there and lay another primer down before the 500 grit. You can still see some of the scratches in a few shots, and I can bet that you can see them even more clearly in person. 500 grit sand paper won't take the 80 grit scratches out... you have to step it up to the 500 (at least a little bit).

  • @MichaelSabo

    @MichaelSabo

    6 жыл бұрын

    You are 100% right dude. The scratches don't jump out at you, especially now that the graphics are on it, but stepping up would have been a better idea.

    if you were to do it again would you sand it to 500 before primer? what kind of paint did you use? and how is it holding up? is there anything you would do differently the 2nd time around?

  • @MichaelSabo

    @MichaelSabo

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I would sand to 500 grit the first time around. I used rustoleum primer for plastic and rustoleum base coat and clear. As far as holding up, only time will tell, but rest assured, it will be put to the test.

    Oh man, there are so many Banshees and so many different variations (mods) and conditions. If you can find a decent one that's relatively stock and has a title, depending on your location, 1500-2000 is a good deal.

    Would you say older banshees are just as good as the newer ones?

  • @MichaelSabo

    @MichaelSabo

    7 жыл бұрын

    In most cases, yes. There were not many changes over the years. The biggest difference is when they changed from the J-arm to the A-arm. I definitely think that's an improvement, but otherwise, they are all basically the same. Of course a newer one will have less hours and wear than an older one if it's not restored.

    Faintly, yes; the graphics cover it and it's not a show quad but if you go with a finer grade sand paper you can get rid of the fine scratches.
