Hummer Chronicles ep. 10 (How to paint plastic molding on a truck)
In this video I present to you new content, I’m giving you all full upgrade view of my personal vehicle. These videos will be like my own version of your average television shows, they’ll be uploaded in episodes showing and teaching you ways to enhance the look of your vehicle.
My new content is called “My Hummer Chronicles” and this is episode 10 (How to paint faded trimming on a truck). I figured since I’m always showing me painting and customizing vehicles why not invite you inside my ideas for my vehicle.
This will pretty much show another side to my channel and give you ideas that’ll make your vehicle stand out from that old stock look. Out with the old, in with the new.
I wanna give a special thanks to those who’ve subscribed and shown support, I also would like to thank KZread for allowing me to share my dream.

Impressive that result from a can!! For those with plastic bumpers or plastic that has faded, you can use a heat gun for stripping paint. The faded plastic needs to be cleaned and dried first, then in small circular movements direct the heat gun in a chosen direction. I go form up to down, watching very carefully not to bubble the plastic, Be careful not to blister your paint though. So shield it or remove the item first. The best idea is to have a bright light on an angle that as soon as you see the plastic starting to go shiny you know to move away as that small area is complete (i.e. converted back to that new look shine) Good luck and be careful as can quickly go wrong by not concentrating to keep slowly moving the heat gun. Maybe New Touch Auto could do a video on the method?

I don’t think the heat gun would work on that trim on a Hummer. I know for a fact it won’t work on that side trim because that side trim plastic isn’t made anything like normal porus plastic trim you find on most vehicles, it’s basically a hard piece of plastic with a thin black colored coating on it. There’s no restoring it. If you’ve ever dealt with the factory body kit on a 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville, it’s the same kind if plastic trim. Heat gun won’t do shit for it.

That is correct, the H2 has two different plastic trimming. My opinion the heat gun approach is only temporary and takes to long to complete on any vehicle. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching the video.

Thanks for watching the video, since the video I’ve found probably the most durable paint product in a aerosol can. This will save you time and money with products, there will be no need to perform the clear coat process. You can find it at Lowe’s, Amazon or any local automotive shop. Krylon 5x stronger

End result looks great. Have an H3 I just picked up a few months ago, been thinking about doing this to the metal/plastic trim...more worried about the longevity of it however. Hows it holding up after a year? Any signs of wear, fade, chipping, etc?

  • @newtouchauto

Thanks and the look is literally the same as the day it was done. No fade or chipping on the panels at all, I’ve actually found a product that is more durable than the products used in this video. Everything is pretty much in one can, the color and the gloss. This product eliminates the clear coat process so it saves you a step and money. Krylon gloss black paint is the product, you can find it at Lowe’s or Amazon. Trust me when I say that it’s the best durable paint I’ve used.

@@newtouchautoThats good to know man, thanks for the update on it and the additional info. The H3 I got is black and in immaculate condition, cleanest one Ive seen in awhile. About to drop around 10-12k in her on the lights, custom trim, parts, wheels/tires...going all black and chrome. The trim has that same fade going on, and the bumper has that stock dark gray color. Been wanting to just take off the trim and paint it, but didn't want to have it not match the bumper. Been thinking about painting it all so it matched, but was worried about it looking like shit down the road. Some forums I read people who painted it themselves and complaining about chipping after a few trips to the car wash, so I was sketchy on it. Ur video and response changed my mind on that...u definitely took the time to do urs right, looks outstanding. Appreciate it man...good content, and fresh ass looking H2 bro🤘

@@newtouchautoDo you still have to do the adhesive promoter & primer steps when using that Krylon? I’m currently detailing an H2 Hummer just like yours except it’s a regular H2. Must be the same year because it’s that same blue color. The side trim has recently been replaced new, but the front & back bumpers starting to look kinda shabby. I was probably going to apply an acrylic trim coating, but that Krylon paint sounds like a more durable option.

@@Samuelfish2k Yes I’d go with Krylon over any brand, the results are really good. You can do away with adhesive promoter but I recommend the primer.
