Painting Abstract Landscapes / Art with Adele

PAINTING ABSTRACT LANDSCAPES / What effect does layers upon layers of color have on your painting? Mark Rothko, one of my favorite artists, was famous for putting multi-layered colors, one on top of another to achieve a luminous effect. In today’s abstract art tutorial you can watch me begin an abstract landscape doing just that.
Adding thin washes of layers of acrylic paint on top of each other using mostly water lends itself to not only beautiful texture, but paint colors that have tremendous depth.
The first layer you’ll see me putting totally saturated color down straight from the tube.
What happens after that is not only fun but helps guide the direction I take in this landscape

Thank you for all of your free advice on You Tube Adele. I understand completely! It's amazing from the comments below how many people don't. It's the same old thing with people always expecting artists to donate their paintings or advice for free. Somehow we don't rank up their with other professionals like plumbers, electricians, lawyers, bookkeepers etc. etc. It's always the artists who get hit on first to donate to fund raisers and the like - you never see a one-hour service from a plumber or lawyer up for grabs. Thank you again for all of your advice and good wishes to you! I appreciate all the time you spent organizing your videos and presenting them with such enthusiasm and care :)

Hi everyone, I just wanted to pop in and thank you for your consideration in joining the Art with Adele new membership. As an artist who earns my living painting I just could not afford to continue to do another year of free art tutorials. I know there are many other art videos out there but I am hoping that those of you who have enjoyed my unique style of teaching will join me and continue to get lots of art learning. I hope you’ll join me. I still have lots of information to share and the membership offers lots of extras. 🌸🌸

As a working, professional artist, $10/month is more than reasonable (for those that can afford it, of course - everyone’s financial situation is different). Given the changes to KZread over the years and the negative impact to potential monetization, I completely understand. As a professional in my field, I certainly would be challenged to essentially give away my expertise & experience for free - no matter how personally fulfilling it would be to share it with others and help build community. I will be joining you soon. I’m already participating in classes with others, and need to wrap up a couple of them first. (I love to take classes! A great way to offset my very busy & stressful workdays.) Thanks for sharing all of the valuable you have to date, here on KZread!

Hi Adele. I am in the infancy of my journey into painting. I have decided to create abstract art for two reasons. First, I have always loved art, especially in it's form when emotion is most directly expressed, if that makes sense. Second, I have struggled with mental illness for the lion's share of my 52 years. My health professionals and loved ones have encouraged me to find a creative endeavor to engage in for the sole reason of enjoyment as I tend to do things more because I "have" to as opposed to doing things because I "want" to. That said, as I trend toward being anti-social, I searched KZread for abstract acrylic tutorials and low and behold there is your smiling face. I have watched several of your videos, as well as other artists videos, and I have to say that I have gotten more helpful info from you than any other source. I love that you don't over edit, you present techniques and Ideas in a fearless yet not intimidating manner with a "why not" attitude, you wear your passion for art on your sleeve, and finally, if I can be so bold as to say you are simply freaking delightful, you had me right at "Hi, I'm Adele":) If I ran across your content for any subject I would watch because you really have a knack for putting people at ease. I am disappointed that I will not be able to become a member at his time as I just can't afford it right now. I saw another commenter suggest Patreon as an alternative way to monetize your content. I believe that would be a good way to encourage us "sensitive artist" types with fear of commitment to support your channel:) If not I will consider joining in the future. At any rate I would like to thank you for the content you have provided at no cost. Honestly you have given me an excellent foundation to start creating. I wish you nothing but the best. Be well.

Thanks so much for your beautiful comment and being so vulnerable. Before I decided to do this membership I spent a lot time looking at other ways to create this. I chose doing it myself because if anything happened to another platform and they closed for some reason, then I would be back to square one. From one sensitive artist who fears commitment to another, I just wanted to let you know that it is not a yearly commitment, just month to month. If, for any reason you want to leave, you can. When I began this KZread adventure at the beginning of the year I had no idea what to do much less how I wanted to teach. So I finally decided on just being myself, what you see is what you get. And I truly have a passion to spread the joys of creating. Even if it’s just doing color mixing, or doodling. It doesn’t have to be a painting. Earlier in my career I was working as a social worker doing art therapy with cancer patients and I researched the benefits creating has, not only our physical health, but our mental health as well. Even though I could go on and on about this I will just close by saying, best of luck to you in your future creative endeavors. I hope you find time to paint, or just create as much as you can. All the best to you. 🌸

Oh Adele, I'm so disappointed that you're leaving You Tube! You are a delight and I get encouragement from your videos. I'll miss seeing you here on Saturdays. I don't even want to watch the rest of this video today. I do understand the need to monetize, and it goes without saying that you have the freedom to do so however you wish. Paying for any art tutorials is completely out of my budget at the moment. I have paid for many classes and tutorials in the past, and I hope to be able to do so again in the future. That said, I would never consider paying $10 per month or more for access to your videos; I feel the monthly charge is too high for the content you provide for me. I hope that you are able to pick up enough students to make this venture worth your while. If it doesn't work out, you may want to reconsider offering some free content on KZread, and having premium paid content on Patreon or Teachable or another paid platform. Have a happy new year!

Hi, you know, I have been thinking so long and hard about this decision, and it was a hard one to make. But when I looked at how I could continue for another year wanting to share my knowledge in the best way to help others, I knew I just couldn’t continue doing it for free for another year. It really takes an enormous amount of work each week which takes me away from doing my own painting. Ultimately I decided on a very small monthly fee which would help. Back to the Facebook question... personally, I don’t blame you for not using Facebook! You don’t need to in order to be part of the membership. You can comment and contact me directly or below each video. The Facebook group is only for those who belong to Facebook and want to share something there. But it is certainly not necessary to belong. I see this move as a totally new and inventive way to help you learn what you want and this way I can make longer videos, which I know you want me to do! Wow! Only $10 a month! That’s nothing, Most art classes are $100’s of dollars. Will be checking it out for sure.

I love your videos! You can put more ads on your videos will it not work then? Please give it another thought. It will be impossible for many future good artists to join it and get benefit from it at the moment. I would love to watch these weekly videos with tons of ads in it. I believe 10$ is too little for such a good content. You deserve more. Blessings.

I know $10 is a really low price for what I am offering. I chose that price because I would rather have it available to the widest audience. But I do appreciate you saying that! 🌸

@@AdeleSypesteynStudio true! You can consider adding more ads in your videos and earn more through it like other you tubers are doing. This will be free for us but you will be earning more. It will be a win win situation. Just my suggestion. Love you.

The day just doing this for the love of art went out the window. Selling bottled water in the desert yeah that may work ,,selling it beside a natural spring..good luck with that...

I love your art and instructions. I just didn't care for this abstract landscape. IMO it had too many bands.

I am sorry you feel you need to charge for us to share with you. I find your experimentation interesting, however, I am at an advanced level and would not pay to see them. A lot of artists sell from their Facebook page. Why not do a blog and attach your video to the blog and youtube, and a link to your Art Facebook business page so you can benefit financially from ads, connect with other artist's websites for blog posts, affiliate products to your blog posts and on these videos, or get a Patreon page? As an example, what was the gallon bucket you opened - what is the product - it could be an affiliate link? If you monetized your tutorials your audience would still grow and you'd create residual income that way , also. Also marketing your art to your local area, such as real estate agents can bring in commissioned work. Best of luck

As I do appreciate your suggestions, I have spent several years studying the best way to share what I know to the most amount of people at the lowest price I could. I actually sell my paintings for thousands of dollars and am in many high end art collections, such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and the Ace Hotel. And while selling paintings is a decent income, the time and cost it takes to produce the videos really is demanding. So, this is the best solution that I have come up with. Thanks, 🌸
