Painting A Dachshund In Oils. Staying Loose When Using Reference Photos. Dog Time Lapse Video

In this video I show you how I painted this dachshund dog in oils using a reference photo. The dog painting tutorial breaks down the colour palette, showing how I used opposite colours and complimentary colours to control my temperatures. I then show the time lapse video where I briefly talk about my painting technique and then discuss in more detail how to keep your own oil paintings loose using these 6 easy steps that can be implemented in your own painting practice.
I am NOT paid for using any of the products in this video. All these items have been purchased by myself and used in my daily art process. The views expressed in this video are my own.

You are so good in explaining the colors en temperature of them. I use that also in my paintings. The thing I always struggle the most with is the background… not so much the color itself, but the way to paint it.

Do you have a tablet? I sometimes use Procreate to figure my backgrounds out before I paint them. You can drop the reference photo in and just digitally paint over it. 👍

@@sarahhallidayart it’s very different to paint it with real paint then on an iPad. I know what I want, but I can’t get it right on my canvas 😅 Happy New Year
