Probably the best tutorial on face painting I’ve seen yet. I’ve watched this at least 10-15 times. I’m grateful people are willing to put this stuff out for free even to help other modellers. Some people can complain about anything! Thanks again.

Wow, a 1/35 face painting vid that you can actually see where the paint is going. No mean feat at that scale with the depth of field to contend with.

Great tutorial! I don’t see the issue with not painting eyebrows, on a 1:35 scale figure they can make it look very toyish. Why are people complaining about the background music, just turn the volume down 🤷‍♂️

hey is your panzer aces flesh shade 343 a brownish or more reddish tone? ive had a problem with panzer aces 310 old wood being darker than it should be, so im concerned about the flesh shadow color as well. i seen the flesh shadows on your palette but its hard to make it out because of the computer and lighting. thank you

@@VGModelling i don't like that about vallejo. my old wood 70.310 is way off that's for sure. i found another example of somebody with the same issue as mine.. reddit.com/r/minipainting/comments/9rujdi/can_i_have_some_goddamn_consistency_vallejo/ ive been thinking of switching all my paints over to AK 3rd gen, they have a new 3rd gen figure line of paints as well. what are your thoughts on the matter?

How thin do you make the paints...is the thinning different in different steps of the process?

Base flesh color I apply directly to cover well, highlights and shadows have to be thinned.

hey there. i'm rewatching this video b/c im trying to understand how to paint faces properly. I have the same paint set of panzer aces, and i just recently purchased scale75 artist flesh tone set. I don't know how to make my faces on 1:35 scale figures look right b/c they're so small. Can you help me? i noticed at 11:54 you start the shadows. Where do the highlights go and where do the shadows? Also i remember we discussed paints and you told me you gave away your Vallejo and got scale75 and AK. I too recently went out and purchased AK 3rd gen and the new AK Figure line. I like how they're all consistent colors, whereas Vallejo dark colors are thick like Nutella and the light colors are runny like Fanta soda. Also AK dries matt and when it's thinned with water it does not go glossy like Vallejo. I also noticed when Vallejo is left on a dry palette, like a paint drop that's left and not used and it dries, that paint drop will dry with gloss/shine, and it will reflect light from a ceiling lamp for example. AK all dry matt especially the Figure line. I also read but haven't tried they don't need a varnish coat before applying oils/enamel washes and mineral spirits for cleanup. They're just that durable. I also noticed when vallejo sits for a a while there is a discoloration color forming on the top edge of the bottle, not with AK.

Hi, I will make video with bigger scale head. AK 3rd gen are more consistent and don't separate as bad as Vallejo. And dry matt, yes. Coverage is nice, Scale75 are not good for base coat, but for blending, the Artist line is very nice :). Try sketching the shadows and highlights and then blend them with the flesh color.

@@VGModelling with the artist paints, the pink flesh, green, brown and red have vert good coverage even when thinned down with heavily with water, after four coats they cover great. The golden flesh and light flesh SART-08 and 09 cover poorly IMO. they will get solid coverage but they require like six or seven coats.

  • @VGModelling

Yes, you are correct-even larger, but high quality brushes have great tip and you can paint small details with ease. And they hold paint better than small brushes which tend to dry on the tip faster.
