A good antique music box with six bells made by Paillard of st Croix, Switzerland in c. 1890.
The musical movement has been fully serviced and features six engraved bells struck by bird strikers. The music box plays a selection of twelve tunes or the day with a deep sound thanks to the slightly larger-than-usual size case: the bass notes reverberate more than is captured in the video.
The tunes are all detailed on the original tunesheet, and include ‘The Blue Bells of Scotland’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
This is housed in a large size veneered wooden case with a musical inlay to the lid, a floral transfer to the front, along with tulipwood banding to the lid and front. It also has gilt carrying handles to the sides.
