I like the design of watches - I don't like wearing expensive brand names- so a homage watch will work for me.... as long as it does the same thing a very expensive watch does: tells time.

The problem is that nowadays watch tells much more than just time. Actually, time is the only thing that homage tells the same way as the original watch. And it's up to you whether it's enough for you or you need more from your watch than just knowing time.

@@siberianwatchlover true, there are watches for dressing up, and daily beaters that keep us on time - but then there are utilitarian watches that can do lots of cool things and have all sorts of complications- and of course, the smart watches which interface with your smart phone and give you all sorts of informational applications. It is all about what you like and what you need.

@@spankyharland9845 I think his point was that watches aren't primarily about telling the time anymore, they are essentially jewellery - A way to say something about yourself to the outside world. In the case of high end watches it's about conveying status or wealth. Really what homages do is tell people you want to look wealthier than you are by mimicking the real thing. Like having a kit car that looks like a lambo.

Thanks for reviewing their sub! About the fitment, one thing I noticed is how far over the clasp sits on your wrist in the opening wrist roll. Then at 5:24, I see that you have 4 links on the outside part of the bracelet and 5 links on the inside. I would suggest taking the bracelet off and flipping the whole thing 180 degrees. That way you have 4 links on the inside and 5 on the outside of your wrist. That would get the clasp centered more on your wrist and then the micro adjust is set up to the short side if you need further adjustment. I do this with all my watches now, since I usually have 4 on the inside and 7 on the outside. I think you'll see a big increase in comfort and that can make a difference when you are at the limits of lug to lug dimensions. And yes 100% agree with building your own watch! It's not that hard.

Thank you for the suggestion @roo2dee2! I will definitely keep that tip in mind. Currently, I have it on a jubilee that fits my wrist MUCH better. After building my first watch, I almost immediately went onto AliExpress to see how the building experience would differ. I am super excited to build it. One pesky thing about Ali unfortunately is the slow shipping times. Every part of the watch has arrived except for the hands. I ordered the parts back in May. Thanks for commenting!

Really like your videos, it's refreshing to see a KZread channel where there is no commercial undertone to the content. Surprised about the specs of the Pagani GMT for the price, it exceed anything else I've heard of that is being sold at a similar price. Though, saving on design costs must be helping them. Personally really like the heritage of watches and the brands. In that sense homages aren't my thing. Though, don't have anything against them either. I can understand that heritage might not be so important to others that it prevents them from going for homages. And why not, they provide some of the best value specs-wise. The copied design also kind of is flattery to the excellence of the original. It's not like Homages try to be fakes and they are rarely done to a quality level where they compete with the original. (Like the crown on the Pagani GMT, I do think it looks off.) The alternative you propose of building your own watch, interesting.. Might actually build a watch myself, didn't even consider it as an option. Even though it won't have brand heritage, it will have a personal, on a personal level kind of heritage to it. And that is just cool if you'd ask me.

It's your money so buy whatever you like and can afford. But as you get deeper into this crazy hobby you won't be satisfied until you can get the real thing, whatever the real thing is to you. I've been into this hobby for a long time and have few high-end watches but lately, I'm going for more inexpensive but well-made watches like Tissot PRX and Certina Divers. They're good looking, fun to wear and don't have to worry about scratching them. It's nice seeing young folks like you getting into this hobby.

I think I only have one Pagani, it's the Speedy Clomage. Mecha Quartz movement, same dimensions. I took it off the bracelet, wore it around for a week on a nato style strap, and now it lives in a drawer in the kitchen until I need to time something I'm cooking. And I don't feel any FOMO about not having a Speedy. Cost me far less than I would lose buying a real Speedmaster and selling it at a loss. And I did that during the virus times, when I couldn't go out shopping. That said, when Seiko launched their affordable GMT, I liked the Batman one, and went out and bought one. Then San Martin put one in an "original design" watch (basic skin diver, but not a blatant rip off of anything), and I got one of those, too. I will 100% wear the San Martin before the Seiko. Wears thinner, very well finished, better bracelet, sapphire crystal, and I actually enjoy wearing it. But I've spent enough time just buying cheap watches, and not long ago finished saving up for a Christopher Ward the Twelve. It's a great watch and I love wearing it. But does Christopher Ward actually have more "Heritage" than the Chinese watch companies? Isn't the Twelve viewed by some as a clomage? I have started to go a little up market in my collection, but I also have seen some guys wearing humble Casios that they are perfectly happy with. And you know what? If you are happy with the watch you wear, that's all that matters. 95% of people won't even notice you are wearing a watch, much less be able to recognize who made it.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I do think that Christopher Ward lacks some of the horological charm of some other brands, but I do think that their unique touches to a design make their watches worth it. If for instance, an AliExpress brand starting making actual homages with their own take on a design, I would usually be just as inclined to recommend them as a Christopher Ward. But at the end of the day, a Casio is all you really need 😂

Great review, some of the Aliexpress watch brands are fantastic value for money, Steeldive, San Martin etc. They make half the stuff for the more expensive brands anyway so they know what they are doing. I'm currently in a microbrand phase, I feel some of these give fantastic value for money also, when you compare them to a really expensive premium brand there might be a 10x difference in price but in no way is there a 10x difference in quality. Buying a smaller clasp might allow you to get your watch to fit, might not look as nice but at least it will allow for a snugger fit.

I'm not entirely convinced, you see, watches are merely material possessions. It's the experiences we associate with them that truly make them special. So, my advice would be to choose something you genuinely like and can afford at the present moment. Create those memorable experiences while you still have the opportunity, whether it's with a Rolex, an inexpensive Casio, or even a Pagani. The brand itself doesn't matter much. It's similar to cameras-sometimes the best one isn't the one recommended on forums, but rather the one you have on hand. That's why smartphones have surpassed cameras in popularity. The level of gatekeeping within the watch community is truly astonishing.

“Heritage” is a completely virtual aspect or “dimension” or whatever you may call it. And it is very much an individual thing if you attribute value to something like that or not. For me personally it is marketing BS made up to justify overinflated prices of luxury watches. My experience with lots of cheap and expensive watches is that there is no correlation between the fun you have with a watch and its price. So it is “buy what you enjoy” for me and I appreciate your more realistic or relaxed approach to the subject you seem to have developed since that other video (which I found rather patronizing at the time).

Spending more on your favorite san martin that you'll end up wearing more often and more happily is well worth buying 2 pagani's that leave you wanting better. Maybe change out that bracelet for a rubber or nato strap for a better fit on the pagani? The pepsi dial looks good on you. If you don't like san martin, how about a steeldive, baltany or rmalti? Two weeks ago, Britt Pearce did a side by side comparison between the 5 figure Rolex GMT and 3 figure Seiko GMT. I suggest you also get your hands on a Seiko GMT, and do a side by side comparison between a clomage and an original. I am curious to see your real time thought process while handling both types of watches. While watching this video, my primary thought was, your time and energy would have been better off reviewing an original Seiko GMT. Then i wondered, how can you make your voice original and unique compared to the other review videos of the Seiko GMT thats already out there? Making a comparison video between a clomage GMT and an origjnal GMT at similar budget points would definitely do that.

I actually prefer seikos hardlex to most sapphire crystals , less reflective and clearer. I found hesalite to be my fav of all, like looking through glass. Sapphire needs good AR coating, even then it can be annoying, its over rated. People need to see specs on paper before they even experienced or know whats the best option.

Hi, I started my watch hobby during a period I was caring for my dad and had very little income coming in. I tried a few cheap chinese companies and found Addiesdive to have best choice, price and quality is unreal. Their company ethos is about protesting against indiscriminate hunting by humans, hence the crossed spear gun logo. They spoke to me.. I urge you to try one, they are fantastic, but dont expect a warr anty hehe. Now having bought 2 Seiko, I am done with chinese watches. Seiko do somthing for me no other company can. Not even my dads old Rolex. I'm not a rolex person, it doesnt feel right, I honestly felt nothing. Seiko gives me the feeling. i bought several chinese micro brand watches but the 2 seikos are all I needed/need. I will buy 1 watch a year now, probably seikos :) maybe a Tissot but no more chinese micros.

The thing with chinese watch Companies is most have no real warranties. Ive found most jewelers and watch repair services will refuse to work on them sadly.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! It's definitely interesting to hear from someone who has owned an addiesdive and a Seiko. I've heard a lot of addiesdive and at some point I'll have to check them out. Surprisingly, I don't own a Seiko 😅. It is interesting to hear from both sides of the aisle. One side says that Chinese homages are light years better than Seiko, and then the other says the opposite. Personally, I think I would be the type of person to appreciate a Seiko more. Thanks for commenting!

Hi!congrats for your channel , really nice to watch, about the pagani, I did my own research too, same model and , besaides the hole homage thing, the problem that I find was the movement that was a pearl movement, really really bad … and the supposed nh34 movement on the new models? Don’t know for sure, but it’s got some pretty bad reviews too , so I think that to buy this watch is a waste of money because you can always find something better for a Little more money ( a promaster diver citizen for example or an edox skydiver 70) or an TISSOT seastar ) Once again , great channel , keep on the good work!

Hi @naneynanars! The newer versions have an NH34. The pearl movement models do have some pretty bad reviews. I definitely thank that finding an alternative to a Pagani is definitely a good idea!

@@TimeTickerOfficial yeap I was aware about the nh34, the thing is that I had an San Martin flieger with an nh34 that , it was way better than the pearl but far from been as good as the movement of as Casio duro for example, so for me a pagani would be a good deal if you find it at no more than 50$!

I had gotten a PD Batman a while back and with this last sale got a Coke bezel with jubilee band. I love love love it. Yes the micro-adjust is a disaster and the bracelet was very hard to size. But once you get it you're good to go and for $60 I mean, it's a crazy good deal.

@@TimeTickerOfficial it is a wonderful submariner homage that has been reviewed hundreds of times on KZread. That said I paid $59.00 for mine on sale, have had it for over two years and it is flawless. It is a step(sometimes multiple steps) above the Pagani at about the same price. Even cheaper often.

Rolex Pepsi gmt copy? No thank you! I’m good! I would rather wear an expensive watch that people think is not as expensive as it is, rather than wear a watch that people think is expensive but it’s not! That is what I told my sister in law when she told me my watch looked very nice and expensive she told me”I bet it was very expensive probably around $500 dollars” a few days later she was embarrassed when she found it it was a $20k Rolex I told her not to worry about it I liked it when people thought the watch was way cheaper than what it actually was 😂😂😂😂😂

@@talega1 Hello! I'm very sorry to hear that. You should probably contact the seller about that. I got a refund on one of my other watches (an ochstin) because the second hand was stuttering. Interesting take! I definitely think that if you buy a Pagani expecting a Rolex, you will most definitely be sorely disappointed, but personally, I think that if you buy an Homage with it's own spin on a design, you will most likely appreciate the watch for what it is and have the "itch scratched". Thanks for being so civil about sharing your opinion!
