Malagueña is a composition of the Cuban pianist Ernesto Lecuona, but it´s also a flamenco genre rooted in Málaga,Spain, from which Lecuona took his inspiration.Paco switches between Lecuona´s themes and his own knowledge of the malagueña flamenca (for instance, the more up tempo parts are a faster type of malagueña called "Verdiales",that don´t appear in Lecuona´s piano version). It´s very nice to see a young Paco in the video. The recorded version includes a second guitar and some arrangements and I think it´s not so old.

I recommend Lucas Imbiriba in “Malagueña”, he is a Paco-style guitarist who fuses flamenco and metal like no one else. What he does will seem incredible to you!
I think one could say Lecuona sort of canonized the style like Pérez Prado canonized the Mambo with 'Mambo no.5'. Or like classical composers did with other popular music, like the 'Hungarian Dances' etc.

I won't add anything to what Daniel Perez explained about the song Malagueña. Simply that Malagueña is also the name given to women who are born and live in Malaga in Andalusia in the south of Spain. In the video, the song is not complete while in the full version it is. Paco was young here and he had put on his gala outfit. He's superb like that, he looks like Don Diego de la Vega in Zorro (Zorro is a fox in Spanish).

My only exposure to Paco de Lucia was an album called Friday Night in San Francisco which was a live recording he did with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin. I bought the album after I tired with McLaughlins fusion jazz. I think it was fantastic but I’ve got no cred to say. I’ll check to see if you play something from that lineup in future coz I haven’t heard it in a good while since I couldn’t find a decent stylus replacement back when and last year I found a young fellow to donate my records to. I hope he is enjoying it.

Malagueña is a standard by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. Maybe for comparison try another piece by him?
