@@Lisa_Flowers To be fair Aladdin was a profoundly underprivileged person dealing with shocking systematic inequality. As an orphan he was left to survive on his own in the streets and threatened with dismemberment for doing what he had to to survive. Somehow, despite being treated as valueless by society he still managed to develope empathy and self worth. Still, he was starkly aware that people would not look past the stigma of his identity. He could not get a chance unless he hid this about himself. One can compare his hiding his status to LGBT people hiding their sexuality or assigned gender. This analogy is strengthened be the fact that Disney's Aladdin was largely written by a gay man, Howard Ashman, living with Aids at the height of the aids crisis. He kept his illness a secret till he was on his deathbed for fear of being fired because of it. Aladdin was a passion project he had tried to realize for years. And yes, I agree one does need to trust romantic partners regardless of the rest of the world. This was a lesson Aladdin learned over the course of the story, a character arch that ended with his "coming out" to Jasmine and her father and freeing Genie because he no longer needed the protection of a cover identity - a kinder ending than many marginalized people face in real life.

the sound of mute/unmute on stereo makes me feel uncomfortable cause it sounds like the weird sound/feeling of ur ear drums when your sick and your ears are blocked and you yawn or swallow lol
