#teampackliner. I use two dry bags for my down stuff, clothes and hammock. That liner looks good, you're right the flat bottom is a nice feature.

Good video. I use a liner and a cover. Mainly because I use the pack cover for other uses around camp. Thanks for sharing👍

Thankyou for this informative video, I've been thinking about a pack liner as opposed to a cover, honestly, I'm pretty much done with the covers, they just don't work when it's constantly pouring down rain, had a fail with that a few months back on the zaleski state forest backpacking trail, sleeping bag and tent got really damp first day in, it was a workable situation, luckily it wasn't really cold conditions but miserable first night none the less lol. Anyways, thanks again, looking into a liner right now.

Hey mate, not a bad video but I do feel like it was more of a "why you should use a Peregrine Pack Liner" rather than a general "pack liners vs pack covers". I would have liked to see more of a weigh on up the pros and cons of both options but there wasn't much in here about why people use pack covers and what benefits they bring over using just a pack liner. That being said, I did get some value out of watching this. I'm just starting out hiking and after spending over $1,000 on a decent ruck sack, sleep pad and a few other things, it's now going to be impossible to justify spending even another $30 on a bag liner. However, I found another suitable option that is inexpensive (similar to a bin bag but better); vacuum-seal bags. We have a few of these spare around the house from storing old quilts and pillows, they are air-and-water tight, and have a zip-lock at the top so they're easy to open and seal each time you need to get things in/out, and avoids that risk simple twisted bin liner. For now I'll have to see how this works but I do think after a couple more payslips from work I might go the proper pack-liner option and use this in combination with a pack-cover.

I used my 5x9 silnylon tarp as a pack cover. The giveaway rain cape is light, 5.5 oz. alternative to a poncho. which is the only effective pack cover. Agree on sleeping bag stuff sack. thanks.

I would say liner and cover. Why? Water may still leech in via the straps etc BUT the cover will keep the the exterior of the main body relatively dry if you aren't using a cuben fiber pack. Keeping that exterior dry minimizes weight gain from the fabric becoming saturated. You will gain far more water weight then the couple of ounces having both would result in.

Pack covers are designed for rain, it's superior as you don't have to haul all the water your bag collects. Your bag won't be damp for the next 3 days either. I use both, but pack covers are absolutely worth the 3-5oz weight penalty. I'd tell you to go dunk your bag and see how heavy it gets, but it sounds like you already did lmao

I dont get it.. I have used backpack covers for more than 6 years and they definitely protect against water if you get the right size.. doesnt your bag soak up water if you just have water proof bag inside? Seems like it would make your bag a lot heavier from the rain..

If you’re on a multi day hike and it never stops raining, water will eventually make it underneath the pack cover via the shoulder straps, the areas where your back is in contact with the bag and the hip belt/pockets. The liner is to insure your items that need to stay dry will be dry when you pull them out of the bag.
