Today I got a chance to take my first real ride around my neighborhood. Something up front is rhythmically rubbing but from the seat I couldn't tell what. I'll look into it. I do need to do something about the foot rests, my legs are too short and my feet don't reach so I'm a bit unstable in the seat. The new arrangement makes it so I can't use the seatbelt, I need to correct that. I rode for 1.5 miles though and everything worked as they should, I had no issues at all. I was cruising around at about 10mph on occasion and really had a good time. I have to admit to a bit of panic though, I'm not used to being more than a few feet from my powerchair.

Yesterday a buddy of mine and I moved the foot rests to the top of the frame. I have a temporary bolt holding them on. I bought a proper bolt yesterday but haven't had time to swap them out. We also worked out my battery mount issue, it was user error on my part. My buddy brought his bike when he came over and we went for a 1.8 mile ride. My buddy's in his early 50s, I'm 63 and he hadn't ridden in three years, so 1.8 miles was the best we could do, he was getting pretty sore, and I was starting to get tired, but holding my own very well. Sorry, I don't have a fresh video, I'd like to get a friend to video the handcycle in action before the weather gets bad, if that happens, I'll post the video. At any rate I've now put small number of miles on the handcycle, the battery is still showing 100% and I'm really happy with my work to date. I have a temporary knobby tire on the left rear, I need to buy three new tires and tubes and change them out, my other two tires are in poor condition. I'll probably wait until fall since once the rains start here it'll be too cold and wet to ride again until May.

Handicapper here with an as-yet unridden handcycle. Bought my handcycle used on Ebay. Installed Tannus (26") solid tires. Added a 15 x 21 x 8-inches deep large bicycle basket below seat (split 2-rail frame).

Have you posted a video? I'd love to see it. How are the tires working out for you? I've considered doing the same thing.

@@JamesADoty Never posted a video. Currently do not know how to post picture or "article". Not yet ridden my first example of solid tires. Solid tires because I cannot get off/on to repair a flat tire! Hopefully will be riding it soon! RARE, 36-speed, 2-rail- frame handcycle. Could put dog under seat in bike basket frame cage! Currently making a self-muscled body lift to lower/raise body onto my recumbent trike seats. Hand cycle SO interests me for getting upper body exercise!

Wow, if you ever work out how to post a video I'm real keen to see it. I can't get off to fix a tire either. My fingers and hands aren't strong enough to get a tire off a rim. I take flats to the local bike shop. The back wheels use a push button to remove so getting them off is extremely easy. the front will be a pain since the chain tensioner will have to be loosened and the gear selector cable will have to be removed, then the nuts and other hardware. My handcycle is only 7 gears, which isn't enough gears. I could really use a "granny gear". That's why I installed the Bafang BBS02.

James Update: Both medical issues and waiting for family to finish set up of my self-invented, body block-and-tackle lift. Wanting to update you on both my yet-to-come first handcycle ride and my solid tires on same. Will also soon have electric wheelchair both in house and garage (both bought used). My indoor manual wheelchair will not move in my gravel driveway! Limited, yet fully-experienced use of scary forearm crutches (no balance here either)! Have not forgotten.

I used to live near Spokane and our driveway was half a mile of gravel, it was a pain in the rear end to push a chair on. Hopefully you get to riding soon.

I've considered it. Right now I'm nearly done installing a disc brake. I'm down to just installing the cable housing and cable.
