P2122/P2127 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Faults(2017 VW Jetta)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Most of the tests shown in this video can be used to diagnose ANY positon sensor or pressure sensor.
In this video we are working on a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta, the engine is a 1.4 liter turbo. The customer complaint is that the vehicle will not move when you push accelerator pedal and there are multiple lights on the dash. There are faults stored in the ECM for both accelerator position sensors. I hope you guys enjoy this video and thanks for watching.

im all my years of fixing vehicles i have never had rodent damage to the wiring here in the UK, i guess our mice dont like wires, it never ceases to amaze me the stupid places where they run the wiring on these cars, it makes it so hard to do checks and repairs, great vid by the way.

Thanks for the video, didn't resolve my issue but got my head straightened out and allowed me to eliminate a few things when I was overthinking. Also when you stated it was weird it would be low voltage I believe it is because it measures the difference between your 5v reference and your ground, so when you had 4v on your ground your difference would only be 1v instead of the 5v the computer was supposed to see.

you need to use manual focus for odd shots like that, if the camera/device allows it. this once again shows and proves that all the electronic garbage needs to go away! it seems clear to me, that when a simple tiny rodent can disable any vehicle within a moments time, there's multiple major low level fundamental flaws involved....... towards the end of video you seemed kind of unsure about your diagnosis, but from what the camera showed, you are doing a great job and learning fast! never stop learning!!!!

I have an issue that's not too different. My accelerator pedal doesn't give the full power when I press it all the way down. I can tell it's not full power cos I set cruise control to a much faster speed than my current speed and when I engage it, with the pedal all the way down, the power noticeably increases. So I have come to the conclusion it is likely an issue with the pedal due to the cruise control still being able to use full throttle. Bit of an odd one but I'm grateful for cruise to be able to test it and work around it

Hi Tom great fix I was thinking of buying the VAG scan tool VAS 6154 because I’m beginning to see that the newer VW and Audi cars after you have retrieved the Fault code from a module there is not much information to actually fix or diagnose the issue I was wondering if you had followed the GFF from the VAS tool how you think they would’ve gone about fixing the issue? As an example there is a shop that called with fault codes on a 2013 Jetta hybrid pertaining to the DSG transmission I’m subscribed to VW Erwin repair information system but there is no information on transmission fault codes matter fact there is no information on air bag HVAC etc... the only thing I find is the engine fault codes I work primarily on VAG cars and what I want to know how good is the fault finding information on the factory tool including resistance test and scope wave form I think that there is a scope that you can attach to the VAS tool right ? I think the factory tool number is VAS 6356

Very rare doe's odis guided fault finding link you to the scope and i find the test plans to have went downhill over the years, example check connector for loose or bent pins, check for shorts and if you input all ok then it will probably tell you to replace component, best to look at enviromental data to see when fault occured as the vehicle maybe was under load and can effect certain conditions on wiring problems. Measured values are great though :) Nice vid Tom

Buy the way could you do a full video of the factory scan tool on a car with a real fault I’m very curious how all the functions work like when you have a fault and the way the tool would help you start a diagnostic up to a pont where you find the problem including looking up the information like wireing diagram and connectors view and pin outs I look on U tube and there is no good video of someone using the factory tool that would be a very cool video to see what I use for diagnostic tool is a VCDS wireless interface and also a Autel they work great but there is no help after you have found the fault code especially on newer cars because it seems like the information is very much liked to the VAS tool

I'm no a fan of the guided fault finding that the factory tool offers. It's basically an electronic flow chart that makes you do all these unnecessary checks. And trust me. I don't have anymore info than anyone out in the aftermarket.

Required hourly labor @ flat rate. No materials required (a few traditional crimps with heat shrink..) Problem with these types of repairs (for a knowledgeable and experienced tech) is commonly customers will witness how quickly they are able to diagnose and fix the issue and feel a certain way about paying the money that is deserved for the repair. (assholes don't consider the cost of the diagnostic equipment needed to be quick and professional with said repairs.) And usually have no mental capacity to understand the priceless years of experience it takes for a tech to work so efficiently..Then on the flip side if you sandbag the job and drag your feet you have the possibility of ruining your reputation as an honest mechanic..It's a tough career. I tell people: "I work on cars, but I deal in people"

Looking at a basic diagram for a potentiometer, if 5 volt was at one end all the time (5v ref) then as long as the wiper (signal) terminal was in contact with the resistor, than at any point with an open ground there should be 5 volt on the signal. Am I looking at this all wrong? or is the ground needed for the APPS to do it wizardry? IE is it not just a potentiometer?
